BAKER, HEATHER DAWN

Heather Dawn Baker, 19, of Towanda, died early Tuesday morning, Aug. 18, 1992, as the result of an automobile accident. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Towanda Baptist Church with burial following in Douglass, Kan. Cemetery.

She was born May 17, 1973, in Winfield, to Jay E. and Purney L. Williams Baker. She graduated from Circle High School with the class of '91 and had lived in Towanda for the past 10 years, moving there from Douglass. She was a computer operator for Pizza Hut and was enrolled at Wichita State University. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Towanda and had been active in sports, including basketball and volleyball, and several organizations during high school.

Survivors include: parents, Jay and Purney Baker at home; sister, Monica, at home; grandparents, Pat Perdue of Wichita, Robert G. and Elsie J. Williams of Douglass.

BRAUNGARDT, FRANCES

Frances Braungardt, 89, Rock, retired administrative assistant at Douglass Nursing Home, passed away on Monday, Oct. 1, 2007.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct 5, at Miles Funeral Home in Douglass. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Douglass Christian Church with interment following at the Douglass Cemetery.

Her survivors include: sons, Scott Braungardt, Kirk Braungardt, and J.L. Braungardt; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd Francis and Minnie (Bright) Starkey, and husband, J.C. Braungardt.

GRUBB, THURSTON L. "T. L."

Thurston L. "T.L." Grubb, 89, of Cleburne, Texas, formerly of El Dorado and Douglass, died Thursday, May 5, 1994. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Monday in the Douglass (Kan.) Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 22, 1905, to Otto Ray Grubb and Irene Blair, in Howard. He lived in El Dorado for about 40 years.

On Oct. 11, 1926, he and Margaret Alice Ferguson were married. She died Oct. 7, 1984. He was a retired electronics engineer for Boeing and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Douglass.

Survivors include: daughter, Shirley McKee of Cleburne, Texas; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

POLK, WILLIAM J. "BILL"

Polk, William J. "Bill," 71, retired Boeing Wichita mechanic, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002. No visitation; service 2 p.m. Monday, First Christian Church.

Bill was born on Dec. 18, 1930 in Douglass to Fred and Dorothy Polk. He graduated from Doulgass High School in 1949, then joined the Air Force in 1950, serving until 1954 as a military policeman. He was married to Janet Graves in 1959.

He worked in the construction field and at a Ford Dealership, with his brother, Jim in Douglass. In 1969, he purchased the Fina Service Station in Douglass where he worked until he sold the business in 1975 and also served the community as municipal court judge during this time. He then was employed by Boeing where he worked the next 15 years until his retirement in 1990. His retirement years were spent traveling, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family.

He was born Nov. 11, 1918, in Atlanta, to Ernest L. and Florence Mae Barnes Price. On April 9, 1949, he and Bonnie Brown were married in Bentonville, Ark. He was a retired real estate broke and an independent oil producer and farmer. His memberships include the Douglass American Legion and the V.F.W.

Survivors include: wife, Bonnie; sons, Mike, Pat, both of Atlanta; daughter, Deena Glaves of Douglass; eight grandchildren.

STEBBENS, DONNIE D.

Donnie D. Stebbens, 53, of El Dorado, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 1994. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Hillside Funeral Home in Augusta with Rev. James Little of the Cedar Chapel United Methodist Church in Wichita officiating. Burial will be in the Douglass Cemetery.

He was born Nov. 2, 1940, in Buffalo, Okla., to Julius and Zelma (Edwards) Stebbens. He was a depot agent for the Frisco Railroad.

Survivors include: daughter, Karen Stebbens of Oklahoma City; step-brother, Robert Stebbeins of Rockwall, Texas; sister, Marlene Little of Augusta; stepsister, Donna Waterman of Wichita; mother, Zelma Stebbens of El Dorado. He was preceded in death by his father Julius Stebbens and son, Scott Stebbens.
