GAMBLE, WARREN E.

Warren E. Gamble, 75, of Towanda died, Sunday, Nov. 13, 1994. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Towanda cemetery.

He was born Jan. 14,1 919 in Atlanta, the son of Charles and Jeannette (Morgan) Gamble, and lived in Towanda most of his life. On May 29, 1951, he and Isobel Harvey were married in El Dorado. She died in 1993. He was a retired machinist for PDG Oilfield Services in Rose Hill and a member of the Towanda United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: brother, Bradford of DeGraff, Ohio, sisters, Clara Susan Williams of Canyon City, Colo., Ethel M. Dyer of Durango, Colo., several nieces and nephews.

GARCIA, MARY LOUISE

Mary Louise Garcia, 65, of El Dorado, died Monday, Aug. 22, 1994, at Wesley Medical Center. Rosary will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Carlson Funeral Home. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

She was born Jan. 8, 1929, in Cassoday, the daughter of Eudardo and Refugio Alzarez Quinones and lived all her life in this area. She was the bakery manager at Dillon's in El Dorado for many years and she had worked for Beech Aircraft. She was a member of st. John's Catholic Church, Altar Society and Amvets.

On July 3, 1948, she and Frank Garcia were married in El Dorado.

Survivors include: husband, Frank, sons, Frank Edward Garcia of Kansas City, Kan., Mark Garcia of Wilder, Ken., daughters, Terry Ball, Kathy Johnson, both of El Dorado, brother, Louis Quinones of Seattle, Wash., sisters, Hope Esicks, Ophelia Gomez, both of El Dorado, three grandchildren.

GARDNER, LEONARD

Leonard Gardner, 87, of Whitewater, retired farmer, died Friday, July 22, 1994. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday in Whitewater cemetery and a memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Wichita Seventh-Day Aventist Church South.

GARMAN, EVERETT 'PINKY'

Everett "Pinky" Garman, 86, of El Dorado, died Saturday morning, Dec. 3, 1994, at Susan B. Allen Hospital. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 5, 1908 in Paulding County, Ohio, the son of Jacob Ernest and Nora Nevada (Sylvis) Garman. On dec. 21, 1932, he and Myrtle J. Barber were married in Guymon, Okla. She died April 10, 1992. He had lived in the El Dorado area since moving from Oklahoma in 1936. For many years he worked as an automobile mechanic, retiring from John K. Fisher in 1973. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include: sons, Ronald, Edwin, both of El Dorado, daughter, Loreta Mason of El Dorado, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

GARNER, NELL JEAN

Nell Jean Garner, 65, of Lexington, died Monday, Oct. 10, 1994 at a North Kansas City hospital. Services were held Oct. 12 at Walker-Nadler Funeral Home and graveside services were held in Machpelah Cemetery with Evangelist Jack Ratliff officiating.

She was born Aug. 19, 1929 in Arrow Rock to George Dewey Edson and Robbie Arline Stephenson Edson. She married James Norris Garner and had lived in Marshall and Lexington since 1963. She was a homemaker and member of the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn.

Survivors include: husband, James, son, James Richard Garner of El Dorado, daughters, Paula Legate, Gayle Bayne, both of Lexington, seven grandchildren. (El Dorado Times, Oct. 18, 1994)

GATES, KATHRYN L.

Kathryn L. Gates of Longmont, Colo., sister of Ruthora Preston, died at her home Jan. 17, 1994. Rosary will be held Wednesday evening and services Thursday. Burial will be in Bay City, Mich.

GAUTIER, RUTH K.

Private services have been held for Ruth K. Gautier, 86, of Seaside, Ore., who died April 30, 1994.

She was born Feb. 4, 1908, in Lockney, Texas, to Logan and Ethel Mcgehee Kennedy. She lived in El Dorado from 1947 to 1953 and was a teacher for many years, retiring in the mid-seventies. She moved to Seaside in 1980.

Survivors include: daughter, Raymonda Dane of Gearhart, Ore., son, Jim of Los Alamos, N.M., sisters, Inex Yates of Olton, Texas, Laura Kennedy of Corpus Christi, Texas; brother, Jim Kennedy of Rockport, Texas, six grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandhcildren.

GEER, JAY C.

Jay C. Geer, 90, of Towanda, died Monday morning, Nov. 28, 1994, at his home. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Kirby-Morris Funeral home. Burial will be in McGill cemetery in Potwin.

He was born June 12, 1904, in rural Potwin, the son of Charles Austin and Margartet (Jackson) Geer, and lived all his life in Butler County. He graduated from Potwin High school. On December 31, 1932, he and Grace Vanora Sunbarger were married. She died March 31, 1971. He was a stockman and farmer and a member of the Flying Farmers.

Survivors include: daughter, Janet Chapman of Wichita, brother, Ray of Potwin, sisters, Ruth Mcgahan of Texas, Viola Shirley of Wichita, Betty Zimmerman of Wichita, Frances Dent of Potwin; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. GILLESPIE, AUBREY LYNN "A.L."

Aubrey Lynn "A. L." Gillespie, former Beaumont resident, died Aug. 16, 1994, at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nev.

He was born July 6, 1926, in Friendship, Okla., the son of Julian Lynn Gillespie and Dovie Lavina Boaz.

GILLIS, LOUISE W.

Louise W. Gillis, 96, of Augusta, formerly of El Dorado, died Thursday, March 3, 1994, at an Augusta nursing home. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns cemetery.

She was born Nov. 14, 1897, in Hoboken, N.J., the daughter of Otto and Barbara (Elise) Walder, and moved to Kansas as a child. On Nov. 10, 1917, she and Nathan Boughton Gillis were married and moved to El Dorado from Burns. She was a homemaker and a member of the Prospect Baptist church.

Survivors include: sons, Norman of Grand Rapids, Mich., Arthur of Conroe, Texas, Harold of Ocala, Fla., Ronald of Great Bend, daughter, May Beard of Augusta, 26 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

GILLIS, SAMUEL WADE

Samuel Wade Gillis, 81, of Miltonvale died Saturday, feb. 5, 1993 in Andover. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Phelps Funeral Home in Miltonvale. Burial will be in Miltonvale Cemetery with Rev. Ernest Foster officiating.

He was born Sept. 9, 1912, in Miltonvale to John and Arrena Loveland Gillis. On May 28, 1935, he and Hazel Shephard were married in Clay Center. She died Feb. 3, 1983. He was a retired bridge construction carpenter.

GLASS, SELDON 'SADIE'

Seldon "Sadie" Glass, 82, of Wichita, homemaker, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 1994. Services are 2 p.m. Monday in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Goddard.

GODDARD, IRENE (POLAND)

Irene (Poland) Goddard, 82, of Florence, died Monday, Jan. 17, 1994, at Halstead Hospital. Services were held Tuesday afternoon at Zeiner Funeral Home. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 17, 1911, in Illinois and lived most of her adult life in Florence. She was a homemaker and with her husband Otto had operated a tavern in Florence. H died in 1972.

Survivors include: son, James of Newton, daughters, Marjorie Branson of Newton, Ellen Hein of El Dorado, Shirley Williams of Roseburg, Ore., 21 grandchildren. (El Dorado Times, Jan. 18, 1994)

GOERING, RACHEL (STUCKY)

Rachel (Stucky) Goering, 85, of Cottonwood Falls, retired Cassoday school cafeteria manager, died Friday, Sept. 23, 1994. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls and 3:30 p.m. Friday in Eden Mennonite Cemetery, rural Moundridge.

Survivors include, sons, Richard Jr. of Wichita, Kermit of Vashon Island, Wash., Donald of Sacramento, Calif., David of Carthage, Mo., Kenneth of El Dorado, daughters, Doris Griffin of Cottonwood Falls, Mary Ann James of Wichita, 27 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren.

GOMEZ, DEMETRIO 'MITCH'

Demetrio "Mitch" Gomez, 71, of Florence, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 1994, at St. Francis Medical Center. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church with Fr. Andrew Seiler officiating. Rosary will be 7 p.m. tonight at Zeiner Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, rural lorence.

He was born Dec. 22, 1922 in Florence. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a trackman for the Santa Fe railroad and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the American Legion.

Survivors include: wife, Shirley, sons, Tom of Wichita, Bob of Arlington, Texas, daughters, Rita Dunning of Mustang, Okla., Gloria Crispin of El Dorado, brothers, Albert, John, both of Newton, Trinidad of Anaheim, Calif., sisters, Isabel Gonzalez, Felicitas Chavez, both of Newton, Isadora London of Hunington, Ariz., eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild.

GORDON, IRVAN 'JACK'

Irvan "Jack" Gordon, 77, of El Dorado, died Thursday evening, Feb. 17, 1994 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Masonic Services will follow the chapel services. Burial will be held at Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

He was born April 4, 1916, in Haskell, Okla., the son of Carl C. and Cora Moore Gordon. On Nov. 25, 1954, he and Helen Snyder were married in Garden City. They have lived in the El Dorado area since 1955. He worked as a salesman for Brown Shoe Store and retired in 1978. He was a member of the First Christian Church, American Legion, Patmos Lodge #97, the Wichita Consistory, the White Shrine and the Elks Club. He served his country in the United States Air Force serving in World War II.

Survivors include: wife, Helen, son, Mark, of El Dorado, five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

GOVENIUS, LENITA MARGARET

Lenita Margaret "Skeet" Govenius, 84, of Augusta, homemaker, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 1994, at AMCI Long Term Care. Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Mausoleum.

She was born June 27, 1909, in Joplin, Mo., to Hiram Dodge and Coral Bell Douglas. On Feb. 24, 1940 she and Charles Govenius were married in El Dorado. He died Feb. 1, 1982.

Survivors include: son, Kenneth Briggs, of El Dorado, daughter, Pat Barker of Augusta, sister, Marvel Worthington of Wichita, three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren. (El Dorado Times, Jan. 12, 1994)

GRAY, JACK CARL

Jack Carl Gray, of Lawson, Mo., died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 1994, at the Excelsior Springs Medical Center. Services were held Friday at Prichard Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs with Rev. Kenneth Harder officiating. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery.

He was born June 7, 1928, in Earlsboro, Okla., the son of James E. and Olivia (Prince) Gray. He was a truck driver for the Time D. C. Trucking Company of Kansas City, Mo., retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 41.

On Feb. 28, 1953, he and Joyce Demo were married in Littleton, Colo.

Survivors include, wife, Joyce, son, Buddy of Houston, Texas, daughter, Debra Green of Liberty, Mo., four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel.

GREEN, RONALD R.

Ronald R. green, 58 of Overland Park, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 1994 at home. Graveside services are 1 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Cemetery, Oatville.

He was born in Beloit and had been an inspector for General motors Fairfax Plant for 31 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the United Auto Workers and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include: wife, Stella, daughter, Debra Green of Lenexa, brothers, Olin Green of Midland, Texas, Keith Green of Everman, Texas, Gary Green of Olathe, sisters, Delores Moore of Belton, Mo., Janean Beam of El Dorado.

GREENWELL, WILLIAM I.

William I. Greenwell, 88, of El Dorado, died Saturday morning, March 19, 1994, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Walnut Valley Memorial Park cemetery. Rev. Rick Harms will officiate the services.

He was born March 18, 1906, in Beaumont, the son of Bernard and Josephine (Shiveley) Greenwell, and lived in Butler County all his life. On Oct. 24, 1926, he and Artie Evelyn Hinkley were married. She died May 24, 1980. He was an independent oil operator and owner and a member of the Baptist Church and rhe Moose Lodge.

Survivors include: sons, W. H. of Benton, Lloyd E. of El Dorado, daughter, Margaret R. Luce of El Dorado, sisters, Susie Gray of El Dorado, Julia Brenton of Eads, Colo., seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and two sisters.

Sara E. Gulick, 56, of Mulvane, Boeing Wichita spray painter, died Friday, July 8, 1994. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Broadway Mortuary.

GUM, VIRGIL LEROY

Virgil LeRoy Gum, 77, of El Dorado, died Sunday evening, Sept. 11, 1994, at Susan B. Allen Hospital. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

He was born July 3, 1917, in Gage, Okla., the son of Roy and Beulah (Eagleston) Gum. On March 21, 1939, he and Lillian F. Burrows were married in Gravette, Ark. For more than 35 years he worked at Pester Refinery. He was a carpenter and a member of O.C.A.W. 5-241. He was 4-H leader and taught leather working to the 4-Hers and was a member of Chelsea Swingin' Squares for 20 years.

Survivors include: wife, Lillian, sons, Darel of Centreville, Va., Harold of Denver, Colo., daughter, Patricia Gum, Rita Scribner, both of Emporia, sister, Alez Brillhart of El Dorado, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jerald, brothers Harold and Francis, and one grandson.

GUSE, REX H.

Rex H. Guse, 90, of McPherson, retired government missiles and airplanes quality control inspector, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 1994. Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include: wife, Iona, sons, Ronald of Aurora, Colo., Richard of McPherson, Robert of El Dorado, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.

GUTHRIE, HAZEL M.

Hazel M. Guthrie, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 1994 in Las Cruces, N.M. Burial will be in the Leon (Kan.) cemetery in January with a memorial service to be held at the Leon United Methodist Church.

She was born June 19, 1906, on a farm east of Keighly, the daughter of Ira James and Minnie (Covert) Gilliland, and she graduated from Leon High school in 1924. She attended Normal Training School in Emporia and taught in Haverhill schools for several years. She and Lee N. Guthrie were married in 1927. He preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Leon United Methodist Church, Little Walnut Chapter 362 of the order of the Eastern Star (and received a 65-year membership pin), was in charge of the Little Walnut Precinct voting activities, worked in the Butler County Treasurer's Office, and helped with opening the Leon Senior Center.

Survivors include: sons, Lee Jr. of Las Cruces, N.M., Lynn of Orlando, Fla., seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Lehrie, a brother, Claude Gilliland, and a sister, Grace Dedrick.
