Mrs. Clara Harrison died at her home in Wichita, Monday morning, at 2 o'clock. The funeral took place Tuesday, Rev. W.D. Martin, of the Broadway M.E. Church of Augusta, conducting the services and the remains were brought to Andover for burial.
Mrs. Harrison was 29 years, four months and thirteen days old. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.G. Russell, living west of town, and leaves a husband, a two-year-old girl and young babe about 8 days old. She had many acquaintances here and among the school teachers of Butler county, she having formerly been a teacher, who sincerely mourn her untimely taking away and extend sympathy to the bereaved relatives. (The Augusta Journal, Friday, May 1, 1903. Submitted by Diana Herrman)
FOUND DEAD - Ed Harrison was found dead in his room over Kuster's grocery, Tuesday night, about 11 o'clock. The body was badly decomposed and was buried early Wednesday morning by the Douglass Burial Association of which he was a member. He was last seen in his room about 10 o'clock, Sunday night. The body was suspended by the neck from the door hinge.
Ed Harrison was a noted character in Augusta. His mind became disordered some fifteen years ago and his hallucinations were peculiar. He imagined at one time that he was the Son of God, the Great I Am, The Great American Eagle, the long lost Charley Ross.
He was of gentle disposition and considered harmless and was always defenders of persons accused of crime. His letters to executive officers have been published from time to time because of their peculiarity. He was one of the most popular hotel porters with commercial men who enjoyed chatting with him and was very attentive in ministering to their creature comforts.
Brooding over his loneliness and the troubles of others was probably the cause of his rash act. A copy of a paper containing an account of the late Winfield tragedy and of the last Morrison trial were found near him and he had doubtless read and reread them until the desire to live left him.
He has two children living, both grown. (The Augusta Journal, Friday, Sept. 4, 1903. Submitted by Diana Herrman)
William Riley Harrison was born in West Salem, Indiana, March 3rd, 1847; was united in marriage to Miss Mary E. Paul, December 3rd, 1869. The children are: Mrs. Fannie Switzer, Mrs. Rose Sterling, Mrs. Olive Utt, Mrs. Anna Jennings, Mr. Claude Harrison and Mr. Charles Harrison, all of whom except Mrs. Switzer reside in Wichita.
He is also survived by three sisters and one brother. On October 28th, 1889, his wife passed away, and March 14th, 1892, he was married to Mrs. Brunette Rice was preceded him to the other land, last June.
He came to Kansas in 1873, and in 1877 moved to Augusta, where he has since resided till last February when he went to Wichita, to make his home with his children. He passed away June 5th at 10:56 p.m. from dropsy of the heart. He was a charter member of the Christian Church of this city, for over thirty years a member of the I.O.O.F. and was also a member of the Fraternal Union.
The body was brought from Wichita, Sunday afternoon and taken to the church where the funeral sermon was preached by the minister, interment being made in Elmwood cemetery. (Augusta Daily Gazette, Tuesday, June 9, 1914. Submitted by Diana Herrman)
