ABEL, EDWARD R.

A funeral service for Edward R. Abel, 70, Green Valley, Ariz., a former Augusta resident, will be 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel. Rev. Jim Little of the First United Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

In addition to his wife, Jessie, he leaves a son, Donald Abel of Brisbane, Australia; two daughters, Nancy Weigand of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Marilyn Moore of Tom Bean, Texas; four brothers, henry and Walter Abel, both of Wichita, Alvin Abel of Vancouver, Wash., and Leon Abel of Little Silver, N.J.; two sisters, Hilda Worrell of Long Beach, Calif., and Velma Crawford of Salt Lake City, Utah and five grandchildren. ABEL, HELEN

Helen Abel, 64, Wichita, died today in Wichita. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Dunsford Funeral Home, Augusta. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

She was born June 11, 1916 at Augusta to Charles Frank and Leora Baum Martin. She survives.

She was a lifelong resident of Douglass. She was a member of the Douglass Church of Christ.

Other survivors include two other sons, Larry Alley of Douglass and David Alley of the home; her mother, Lucille Young of Douglass, two brothers, Keith and Norman Young both of Douglass, a sister, Wanda Salmans of Lawrence and two granddaughters.

ALBOTT, ROSE LARA (MRS. CHARLEY H.)

Rose Lara (Mrs. Charley H.) Albott, 78, of Augusta, died Friday.

Services were to have been held today at the Dunsford Funeral Home at Augusta.

Survivors are a son, William of Topeka, and two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Lang of Wichita and Mrs. Shirley Suther of Augusta. (Augusta Gazette, August 29, 1979)

ALLEN, GLENN CURTIS

Glenn Curtis Allen, 74, 315 Walnut, died at the Augusta Medical Complex yesterday.

Graveside services are planned for 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Elmwood Cemetery.

Born Sept. 2, 1902 to Charles and Molly Elly Allen at Stark, he married the former Ferne Laveta Reynolds on July 14, 1944 in Hutchinson. She survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Robert Grant Allen, LaVerne, Calif., a daughter, Darlene Marie Harris of Topeka; a sister, Osie McConkey of Quinter, five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. (Augusta Gazette, August 10, 1978)

ANDERSON, GEORGE EDWIN

George Edwin Anderson, 65, 1140 Ada, died Tuesday, May 12, at the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.

His service will be 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Dunsford Funeral Home Chapel of Augusta and Rev. Richard Axmann, pastor of the First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

He was born here Feb. 26, 1916 as a son of George and Bertha Gillispie Anderson.

On Jan. 20, 1946, he and the former Nattie Alice Thompson were married in a ceremony in Winfield. She survives.

The retired Boeing engineer was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Augusta Elks Lodge, BPOE 1462.

Memorials to the Heart Fund have been suggested.

He also leaves three sons, Dean E. of Kansas City, Kan., David of Augusta, and Larry of Woodstock, Calif., two daughters, Linda Chappell and Carolyn Martin both of Augusta and six grandchildren. (Augusta Gazette, May 14, 1981)

ARMOUR, TERRY JACK

Terry Jack Armour, 26, of Arkansas City died Thursday evening at the Augusta Medical Complex of injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident.

Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Kirby Morris Funeral Home at El Dorado and at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church at Crescent, Okla. Burial will be in the Knowles Cemetery at Crescent.

Mr. Armour was born Jan. 7, 1953, at Kingfisher, Okla., the son of Jack and Olive Tharp Armour. He graduated from Crescent High School. He moved to Wichita in the spring of 1977 and on May 5, 1978 he was married to Glenda Britting at El Dorado. They lived in El Dorado from that time until November 1978 when they moved to Arkansas City, where he was employed by Range Oil Company. While in El Dorado, he was employed by C&S Well service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church at Crescent.

Survivors include his wife of the home; his parents Mr. and Mrs. Jack M. Armour, and a brother, Gary Armour, all of Crescent.

He was preceded in death by a sister Beverly. (El Dorado Times, 1979)

ATWOOD, NELLIE BLANCH

Nellie Blanch Atwood, 84, Walnut Valley Nursing home resident, died yesterday.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. George R. Goudie will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.

She was born May 11, 1894 in Stone County, Mo. She was a homemaker. She came to Augusta in 1941. Her husband Benjamin Atwood died in 1967. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist church.

Survivors include a son, Mark H. Copp, Augusta, daughter Betty C. Graham, Wichita, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. (Augusta Gazette, November 22, 1978)

BAILEY, WIRLEY DARREL

Wirley Darrel Bailey, 51, of Augusta, a general laborer, died Saturday. Services were scheduled for 2:30 p.m. today at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.

Survivors include a son, Larry of Wakarusa; brothers, Marion, Melvin, both of Wichita, Dwayne of Augusta; sister, Marjorie Varner of Lyndon.

BAKER, EDDIE

Eddie Baker, 15, Augusta, drowned Wednesday in the Walnut River while crossing a low dam south of town.

Augusta police said they lost a rescue boat while they were recovering the body. Strong currents swept the boat away before tow lines could be attached on the shore.

Eddie was wading across the dam and apparently slipped in a recess that forms the spillway. The river is high since recent rains.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Baker, Jr., Augusta.

BARR, VERNON EDWARD

Vernon Edward Barr, 77, retired superintendent of general Machine and Tool Co., Augusta, died Monday.

He was born Aug. 31, 1887, in Elmdale, Kan. and had lived in Augusta since 1928. He was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include his widow, Alice; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Clark, Los Angeles, Calif., and a son Dr. William S. Barr, Winfield, Kan.

BENTON, HERSEL C.

Services for Hersel C. Benton, 49, of Augusta, who died Wednesday of injuries suffered in an auto collision will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Dunsford Mortuary here. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Mr. Benton, labor foreman at the Augusta Mobil Oil Co., was born June 12, 1915, at Garrison, Mo. He had lived in Augusta since 1941, moving here from Pratt, Kan. He also owned and operated the B & B Bait Shop west of Augusta.

He was a member of the Christian Church and a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his widow, Ruth; three daughters, Lana, Donna and Brenda, at home; a son, Larry, Augusta, two sisters, Mrs. Virgie Kinsey, Pratt and Mrs. Gladys Arell, Turlock, Calif., two brothers, Archie, Stafford, Kan., and Stanley, Augusta and two grandchildren. BURLINGHAM, EDITH G. CARR

Edith G. Carr-Burlingham, 90, of Ulysses, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006 at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006 at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta. Friends may call today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Rev. Delbert Callaway will preside.

She was born Jan. 30, 1915, in Poteau, Okla., the daughter of William and Scotia Jane (Hollums) Bradley. She lived on a farm north of Augusta from 1936-1971. Edith belonged to the Elm Creek Ladies Club and Augusta Ladies Auxiliary. In1971 she moved to Amarillo, Texas where she and John J. Burlingame. He preceded her in death on Jan. 29,1996.

Survivors include sons, Bruce S. Carr and wife Norma of El Dorado and Byron H. carr and wife Karen of Ulysses; special daughter, Beverly Mankham and husband Leory of Benedict, sister, Rosalee Stubbs of Gladewater, Texas; brother, Lonnie O. Bradley of Sterling, Okla., four grandsons, Benjamin S. Carr, Barry S. Carr and wife Tammy, Breck S. Carr and wife Billeena, all of El Dorado and Casey A. Carr and wife Jenni of Atlanta; three special grandchildren, Dale Markham of Parson, Dean Markham of Wichita, and Sedena Beusch and husband Pete of Claremore, Okla., five great-grandchildren, Nicolas, Trina and Rebecca Carr and Brenna and Bryton Carr; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters.

DOYLE, LOTTIE MARY

Services for Mrs. Lottie Mary Doyle, 92, Augusta, who died Wednesday at El Dorado, Kan., will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dunsford Funeral Home here. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Doyle was born Sept. 18, 1871, in Ypsilanti, Mich. She had lived in the Augusta area since 1905.

Survivors include five daughters, Mr. H. A. Prigmore, Leon, Kan., Mrs. L. A. Davis, Topeka, Mrs. R. W. Edwards, 826 N. Old Manor Road, Wichita, Mrs. K. R. larrick and Mrs. B. D. DUNSFORD, JOSEPH FREEMAN

Services for Joseph Freeman Dunsford, 81, Augusta mortician who died Monday will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Mr. Dunsford was born Feb. 8, 1883, at Galva, Kan. He came to the Augusta area in 1916 from Little River, Kan.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, Augusta Masonic Lodge, Royal Arch Masons, Wichita Consistory, Augusta Kiwanis Club, Elks and Kansas and national funeral directors associations.

Survivors include his widow, Nettie; four daughters, Mrs. Mildred Chase, Woodland Hills, Calif., Mrs. Madeline Travis, Lugano-Montagnola, Switzerland, Marjorie Dunsford, Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Barbara McKay, 3818 E. FARQUER, JAMES R.

James R. Farquer, 62, of 1305 South High, died Tuesday at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home with entombment in Belle Vista Mausoleum.

Mr. Farquer was born Feb. 25, 1917, at Newton, the son of James Leory and Virgie Alice Maples Farquer. On Sept. 5,1953, he married Mary Mcgahan Hiatt, who died in February 1979. He lived in the Butler, Harvey and Sedgwick county area all his life. He was an employee of the Becon Truck Line, retiring in 1977, was a veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post no. 81.

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Eldra Pearl Hilliard of Salina; three brothers, Otis Leroy of Valley Center, Louis Eugene of Shell Beach, Calif., and Melvin Ray of Midway City, Calif., a stepsister, Francis Ruth Crawford of Santa Monica, Calif., two step-brothers, Robert Crawford of Morgan Hill, Calif., and Dwight R. FAULCONER, JOE D.

Joe D. Faulconer, 78 of 330 West Central, died Saturday evening at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church with burial in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

Mr. Faulconer was born Nov. 30, 1900 at Potter, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Henry Faulconer. On May 20, 1931, he married Anna Coleman in Kansas City, Mo., and she died Feb. 17, 1963. He came to live in the Butler county area in 1907 and in 1917 with his brother, Guy, they formed the Faulconer Dairy and operated that business until 1961.

He had served the community as past-president of the Kiwanis Club, was mayor of El Dorado for two terms, a past city commissioner, past county commissioner, past exalter ruler and life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, a past member of the Social and community Welfare for promoting the Institute of Logopedics and a member of the First Christian Church.

Other memberships included Patmos Masonic Lodge No. 97, A. F. & A. M., the Wichita Consistory, the Midian Shrine Temple, the Presidents Club of the Butler County Community College, the Wichita club and the El Dorado Country Club.

Survivors include two sons, Charles R. of Gallatin, Tenn., and Wayne C., of Wichita; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Margaret Ann) Culp of San Jose, Calif., a brother, Guy, of El Dorado, and a sister, Mrs. Manley (Lois) Tague of El Dorado, and four granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph W. Faulconer, in 1962, two brothers and one sister.

A memorial has been established with the Cardiac Care Unit at the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Donations may be sent to the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home.

FENNELL, ISLA MARIE

Isla Marie Fennell, 86, a resident of Walnut Valley Manor nursing home, died there Wednesday.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Burl Allison, Jr., will officiate.

A memorial has been established with the Augusta City Library.

She was born March 22, 1898 in Butler County to George and Addie Dooley Harrison.

She married Herbert E. Fennell. He preceded her in death.

This homemaker is survived by daughters, Naomi Cyphers, Leona Hooper, Anna Wilson, all of Augusta, brothers, Ray Harrison of Wichita, Allan Harrison of Edmond, Okla., a sister, Monica Rowley of Wichita; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. (El Dorado Times, August 30, 1984)

Isla Marie Fennell, 86, of Augusta, a homemaker, died Wednesday. Service was 10 a.m. today, Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.

FROST, WAYNE

Wayne Frost, 79, of Augusta, retired owner of Frost Market in Augusta, died Saturday at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.

He was born Sept. 30, 1904 in Atlanta, Kan., the son of Fred and Cornelia (Martin) Frost. He was a member of the Douglass Blue Lodge, the Wichita Consistory, the Lions Club of Augusta and the American Legion of Augusta. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

On June 20, 1942, he was married to Maxine E. Reed in Augusta.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine of the home, one daughter, Mrs. Philip (Carol Ann) Courtwright of Augusta; one brother, Jim Frost of Seattle, Wash., one sister, Ruth Frost of Augusta and three grandchildren.

GAHM, ANDREW RICHARD

Services for Andrew Richard Gahm, 51, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Dunsford chapel. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta. He died Saturday.

Mr. Gahm was born April 2, 1913 in Augusta and had been a former Wichita resident. He moved to Cape Elizabeth four years ago. He was a member of the Elks Club.

GILLIAND, JOHN R.

John R. Gilliand, 57, Augusta, was killed in a car collision Wednesday near Yates Center, Kan. He was a passenger in a car driven by his brother-in-law, Homer Myers, Yates Center, who also was killed.

Mr. Gilliand was born May 14, 1907 in Parkersburg, W. Va., and moved to Butler County with his parents in 1917. He was an employee of the Mobil Refinery and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Rowena Marie; two sons, John W. and Harry, Augusta, two daughters, Janet and Mrs. Karen Duncan, Augusta; a brother, D. B. Gilliand, Atlantic City, N.J.; two sisters, Mrs. Credia Trotter, Torrence, Calif., and Mrs. Marie Taylor, Dallas, Tex., and two grandsons.

GOVENIUS, CHARLES W.

Charles W. Govenius, 65, 1201 Money, died Feb. 1 at the Augusta Medical complex.

His service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Richard Bacon will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood Mausoleum.

A memorial has been established with the American Heart Fund.

He was born Jan. 25, 1917 in Augusta to Charles W. Govenius Sr.

He married Lenita Dodge Feb. 24, 1940 in El Dorado. She survives.

He was a member of the Christian Church and a retired welder at Cessna Aircraft Co.

Other survivors include a stepson, Kenneth Biggs, El Dorado, a stepdaughter, Pat Barker of Augusta; three grandchildren, Monty Barker, Lenita Lohman and Rick Biggs, and two great-granddaughters, Jessica Biggs and Jennifer Biggs. (Augusta Gazette, February 3, 1982)

GRAHAM, ALTHA MILDRED

Altha Mildred Graham, 80, Hutchinson, sister of La Ree Watson of Augusta, died Saturday.

Services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Burl Allison Jr., will officiate and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the United Methodist Church, Arkansas City.

Altha was born to Arthur and Edith Armstrong McVay on Dec. 2, 1901 in Augusta.

On May 26, 1920 she married Charles Burrell Graham in Oilton, Okla. He preceded her in death in 1979.

She held memberships in the Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge.

Other survivors include two sons, don of Beatrice, Neb., and Joseph of Arkansas City, two daughters, Rhea Graham of Hutchinson and Nola McDill of Topeka; a brother, Wayne McVay of Wichita; another two sisters, Luella Harris of Overland Park, and Lyda Hunt of Elk City, Okla., seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. GRISSOM, MAUDE JANE

Maude Jane Grissom, 89, 2101 Dearborn, died today at the Augusta Medical Complex.

Her service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Richard Axmann will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.

She was born Aug. 29, 1892 in Pansy, Mo., to James and Loucinda Stillings Walker.

She married Jay D. Thompson 1909 in Pansy. He preceded her in death in 1923.

She married Fred A. Grissom in El Dorado in 1927 and he preceded her in death in 1973.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, James Orville Thompson of Palacios, Texas and Waldo Warren Thompson of Hutchinson, a daughter, Juanita Thornton of Augusta, two sisters, Edna Buckalew of Hemet, Calif., and Norma Applegate of Augusta; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Two sons, Gene Thompson and Ronald Grissom, preceded her in death. A daughter, Virginia Thompson, also preceded her in death. (Augusta Gazette, September 28, 1981)

HACKER, ROY E.

Services for Roy E. Hacker, 36, Champagne, Ill., former Augusta resident who died Saturday, will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dunsford Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery here. Mr. Hacker was killed when a jack slipped while he was working beneath a car.

He was born April 28, 1927, in Augusta and had been a Champagne resident nine years.

Survivors include four brothers, Glenn, Columbus Air Force Base, Miss., Vincent, South Gate, Calif., Herbert, Houston, Tex., and Kermit, 1241 Prairie, Wichita and a sister, Mrs. Mildred Prindle, 729 E. Harry, Wichita. (El Dorado Times, January 28, 1964)

HENDERSON, GUY EDWARD

Guy Edward Henderson, 69, Oklahoma City, brother of Helen Keethler of Augusta, died yesterday at Oklahoma City.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Richard Axmann will officiate.

He was born June 28, 1912 in Leon to Harry and Margaret Griffith Henderson.

He was a car salesman.

Among the survivors include two sons, Gene Henderson of Denver, Colo., and Ronald Henderson of Wichita, three daughters, Joyce Schroeder of Derby, Judy Heatwole of Sedgwick, and Linda Ward of Wichita, 13 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

HUFF, JOHN B.

John B. Huff, of Fort Smith, Ark., formerly of Augusta, was reported shot to death yesterday while picking up his son off a school bus.

Details on the incident are sketchy according to a relative, Mable Elder of Augusta.

Huff and his wife, the former Bernice Gypsom lived in Augusta during the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 1975, they moved to Fort Smith with her parents, Derrel and Dorothy Gypsom, also of Augusta. (Augusta Gazette, September 30, 1981)

HUTCHISON, EDNA EARLL

Edna Earll Hutchison, 93, formerly of Augusta, died Saturday, July 25, at the Pennock Rest Home in Kingman.

Her service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, at the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel here and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Hutchison was born at Haverhill Nov. 3, 1887 as a daughter of William B. and Minnie Merritt Earl.

She married Maurice Edgar Hutchison on Dec. 25, 1906. Her husband preceded her in death Nov. 8, 1962.

She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Norma shaw of Kingman, Mrs. Dorothy Coday of Sedalia, Mo., and Mrs. Lola Schultz of Hillsboro Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Hutchison was a member of the Haverhill Christian Church and of the Haverhill Ladies Aid. She was also involved in the Grandmothers Club and the Order of Eastern Star of Leon.

HYDE, WINNIE P.

Services for Mrs. Winnie P. Hyde, 63, who died Wednesday, are to be held today at Dunsford Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hyde suffered a heart attack while vacationing with her husband in Colorado Springs.

She had lived in this area all her life.

Services for Mrs. Lula May Lewis, 82, of Augusta who died Monday will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Dunsford Funeral Home with burial in Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.

She was born April 24, 1882 in Kansas City, Kan., and had lived in Augusta for 30 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Beatrice Malek, 1328 S. St. Francis, Wichita, and Charlotte Ross, Augusta; two sons, Albert Lewis, New Albany, Ind., and Clarence Lewis, Augusta, two sisters, Jenny Wilkerson, Caldwell, Kan., and Georgie Parker, Benton, Ark.; a brother, Harry Brooking, Derby; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. LEWIS, MILDRED MARION

Services for Mrs. Mildred Marion Lewis, 45, Augusta, who died Thursday, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

She was born May 15, 1918, in Sedgwick county and had been a resident of Augusta most of her life. She was a member of the First Christian Church.

LEWIS, RAY WARDER

Services for Ray Warder Lewis, 66, Augusta, who died Sunday, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Mr. Lewis, a retired employee of Magnolia Pipeline Co., was born July 9, 1898, at Chilhowee, Mo. He had recently been engaged in the real estate business. He was a member of Augusta First Christian Church, Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and BPOE.

LONDON, CHARLIE L.

He was born April 7, 1891, at Denton, Tex., and had lived in Augusta since 1955, moving here from Schulter, Okla.

He was a retired coal miner.

MANESS, DOAN M.

Doan M. Maness, 69, a 40 year employee of Cities Service Oil Co., here, died Sunday.

He was born April 12, 1895 at Rolla, Mo., and had been an Augusta resident since 1920. He was a member of Doherty Men's Fraternity and Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include his widow, Neda; four daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Dawson, Amarillo, Tex., Mrs. Maxine Zook, Derby, Kan., Mrs. Velda Dawson, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Mrs. Donna Bell, Denver, Colo.; three sons, Edward, Douglass, Kan., Jewell, 1712 N. Edwards, Wichita and Donald, Augusta, 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

MARSHALL, KATHERINE M.

Services for Katherine M. Marshall, 60, Augusta, who died Wednesday will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Dunsford Funeral Home, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Marshall was born April 19, 1904 and had lived in the Augusta community since 1920.

MARTIN, OMER D.

Omer D. Martin, 83, owner of the former Martin Brothers Motor Co., of Augusta, died Sunday at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

His service will be at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

He owned and operated the Dodge car and truck agency in Augusta from 1929 until his retirement in January of 1981. He also owned and operated Dodge agencies in El Dorado and in Arkansas City for a number of years.

Over the years Martin developed a family type business employing his daughters and his brothers, Aubrey and his wife, June and Virgil and Ernest Martin in the local business. He had also been closely associated with his brother, Elmer in business.

He was born to S. M. and Lina Martin, March 19, 1898 in Paris, Ark.

He married Dellena Primm Dec. 31, 1918. She preceded him in death.

He was a member of the first Christian Church in Douglass. He lived on his ranch near Douglass where he was widely known in the farming and business community.

Survivors include his daughters, Vivian Chalfant of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Marie Cornell of Clinton, Okla.; his companion of many years, Viola; brothers, Elmer Martin, Ernest Martin both of El Dorado and Aubrey Martin of Augusta; many nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, an infant son, four brothers and two sisters, preceded him in death. (Augusta Gazette, November 30, 1981)

MICKLE, ERCLE L.

Services for Ercel L. Mickle, 65, Rt 3, Augusta, who died Thursday will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, Augusta.

He owned Massey-Ferguson Farm Machinery retail store.

He was born June 20, 1899, and he was married Dec. 9, 1928 to Mary M. Sheets at Madison, Kan.

He was a member of Augusta First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Mary; a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Lee Brown, Augusta; and four grandchildren.

MOORE, LEEROY

LeeRoy Moore, 83, Wichita, died yesterday at the Woodlawn Nursing Home in Wichita.

His service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Quiring Old Mission Chapel in Wichita. Rev. Gerald L. Waters will officiate an entombment will be min the mausoleum at Elmwood Cemetery here.

The Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of local arrangements.

Moore was born Aug. 25, 1897 in Oklahoma and was married to the former Myrtle Snyder. She preceded him in death.

He was the retired manager of the Long Bell Lumber Co. in Oklahoma. (Augusta Gazette, June 1981)

MURDICK, WILMA MINA

Wilma Mina Murdick, 90, 1155 Euclid, died June 3, at the Augusta Medical Complex.

Her service will be at 2 p.m. June 5 at the Dunsford Funearl Home. Rev. Richard Axmann of First Baptist Church will officiate and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 6, 1891 in Clarksdale, Mo., to Howard and Cora Coon Bucklew.

She married Arthur Jacobs in 1911. He preceded her in death in 1913.

She married Rolla Murdick, September 21, 1915 in Delphos. He preceded her in death in 1973.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, June Martin, Augusta, two sisters, Cecile Hart of Garfield, Texas and Ollie Parker of Salina; two grandchildren, Judy Haynes of Coldwater and Karen Flynn of Huntington Beach, Calif., eight treat grandsons and a great great grandchild. (Augusta Gazette, June 3, 1982)

NANCE, FAYMA G.

Services for Fayma g. Nance, 59 Augusta, who died Sunday, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Born June 2, 1905, in Crossroads, Mo., she had lived in Augusta since 1925. She was a member of Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include her widower, Earl; two daughters, Dorothy Gruver, 1227 Ellis, Wichita and Earlene Baker, 4403 S. Broadway, Wichita, a brother, Clarence Witty, Crossroads, Mo., and four grandchildren.

RILEY, ANNA PEARL

Mrs. Anna Pearl Riley, 80, died Saturday in Augusta.

She was born Oct. 31, 1883 at Mount Vernon, Wash., and was married in 1925 to Amzi C. Riley in Newkirk, Okla.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Letha Walwroth, Hennessey, Okla., and Mrs. Therza Stinnett, Augusta; two sons, Orville, Caney and Walter, Sulphur, LA., two grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

RILEY, DONALD L.

Services for Donald L. Riley, 37 Augusta, who died Saturday, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be in Augusta cemetery.

He was born Aug. 1, 1926, at Marysville, Kan., and had lived in Augusta three years. He was employed by the TOX trucking firm in Wichita. He was a member of the VFW and a veteran of World War II. He was constable of the Augusta Township.

Survivors include his widow, Dorothy, four sons, Larry, Ricky, Michael and Danny all of the home; two brothers, Stanley Riley, 420 Carlisle, Wichita and George Riley, Phoenix, Ariz., a sister, Mrs. E. RODDEN, NANNIE A.

Services for Nannie A. Rodden, 81, of Augusta, who died Sunday, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Dunsford Funeral Home, Augusta. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.

Born April 14, 1883, in Rogers, Ark., she had lived in Augusta since 1921, coming from Pueblo, Colo.

SEABURN, JAMES A.

Services for James A. Seaburn, 61, Augusta, who died Tuesday, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Dunston Mortuary with burial in Elmwood Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 2, 1902, in Delaware County, Olka., and had lived in the Augusta community since 1921.

Survivors include his wife, Frances; a stepdaughter, Barbara Lovelady, 1233 Crestway, Wichita, two stepsons, Wayne Richardson, 1915 W. MacArthur Road, Wichita and Warren Richardson, Oklahoma City, a brother Jay Seaburn, Marion, Kan.; and three grandchildren. (El Dorado Times, July 2, 1964)

SEGLEM, ARNIE

Arnie Seglem, 83, of Leon, a resident of Butler County for 71 years, died Wednesday in Allen Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Seglem, a retired farmer, had lived in Butler County since 1892. He came to Kansas with his parents and lived at what is now Pickrell Corner until 1907. From there he moved to a farm one mile west of Leon and lived there for 16 years.

Mr. Seglem lived on various farms in the Leon Community until 1945 at which time he moved into Leon. He was a member of the Leon Methodist Church.

He was born May 17, 18880, he married Sybil Brown on Sept. 2, 1907 at Haverhill.

Surviving are his wife of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Irene McCaffree, Route 2, El dorado, Mrs. Inger Shriver, Augusta, Mrs. Geneva Jones and Mrs. Winifred Gallagher both of Pratt, one son, Joe, Route 2, Leon, a sister, Mrs. Louis Green, Augusta; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Leon Methodist Church with its pastor, Rev. Richard Robbins, officiating.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery at Augusta.

Services for Arnie Seglem, 318 West High, Leon, who died January 23rd in Allen Memorial Hospital after an illness of eight weeks, were held Saturday in the Leon Methodist Church, the Rev. Richard Robbins officiating. Mrs. Willard Morgan and Mrs. Anita Souders were the musicians. The casket bearers were Harold, Kenneth, Linton, Ed and Marvin Seglem, and Merle Hattesberg. Melvin Garver and Arley Kistler were the ushers. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery at Augusta. The Kirby Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

A resident of Butler county since 1892, Mr. Seglem was born may 17, 1880 in Champaig county, Illinois, a son of Knute J. and Louisa (Anderson) Seglem. The family came to Kansas in 1892, with eight other families, by emigrant train and located on a farm in the Haverhill community.

Mr. Seglem and Sybil Brown were married September 2,1907, and for a time lived near Haverhill, later moving to their own farm west of Leon where they resided sixteen years. They lived on other farms in the Leon area until retiring and moving to Leon in 1945.

Mr. Seglem was a devoted member of the Leon Methodist Church.

Surviving are Mrs. Seglem, a son and four daughters, K. Joe seglem of Leon, Mrs. Lawrence Mccaffree (Irene) rural El Dorado, Mrs. W. D. Shriver, (Inger), Mrs. Winifred Gallagher and Mrs. R. V. Jones (Geneva) of Pratt; and a sister, Mrs. Louise Green, Augusta, route two. (El Dorado Times, no date given)

SHANNON, BEATRICE

Augusta, Kan., - A 94 year old Augusta woman died Saturday of burns received Sunday when she backed into an open flame heating stove at her home.

Mrs. Beatrice Shannon was born Oct. 8, 1869 in Marshall, Mo.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Josephine Ringo, 546 S. Bluff; a son, Gordon L. Shannon, Augusta; two brothers, John and Jasper Briscoe, both of Okmulgee, Okla., four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. (El Dorado Times, February 2, 1964)

WICK, ANNIE MYRTLE

Services for Mrs. Annie Myrtle Wick, 89, of 116 Broadway, Augusta, who died Tuesday will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Dunsford Funeral Chapel.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Wick was born April 17, 1875 in Girard, Kan., and moved to Augusta in 1946 from Cherryvale, Kan.

PEARCE, HOPE C. (HINKLE)

Hope C. (Hinkle) Pearce, 87, passed away Monday (June 2, 2008) at Kansas Christian Home in Newton.

She was born in Wichita to Fred and Helen (Magee) Hinkle.

She attended Wichita East High School and graduated in 1938 in the top six of her class of 650 students.

She graduated from Phillips University in Enid, Okla., with a bachelor's degree in child education.

She married the Rev. James Pearce on July 14, 1944, in Enid. He preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker and longtime member of Hillside Christian Church in Wichita.

She ministered alongside her husband in many different locations, he from the pulpit, she in the youth department. Some locations they called home during their ministry were Lacrosse; Garden City; Oklahoma City, Okla.; Birmingham, Ala.; and Memphis, Tenn.

Survivors include son, James Pearce and wife, Elizabeth, of Whitewater; grandsons, Jared Pearce and wife, Andrea, of Benton, and Douglas, Anthony, Randall and Loren, all of the home in Whitewater; son, Marshall Pearce and wife, Heide, of Wichita; granddaughter, Alicia Riley and husband, Jeff, and great-granddaughter Lily of Pierz, Minn.; grandson Brett and granddaughter Rae Anne, both of the home in Wichita.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lamb Funeral Home in Whitewater.

Church memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hillside Christian Church, 8330 E. Douglas in Wichita, with Pastor Bill McConnel officiating.

Graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Schafer Cemetery, east of Whitewater, with Laverne Busenitz officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the youth ministries department at Hillside Christian Church.

PEARCE, DOUGLAS JAMES

Douglas James Pearce, 24, passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his side on Sunday (April 19, 2009).

He was born on Aug. 15, 1984, in Newton, the son of James and Elizabeth (Busenitz) Pearce.

He attended Berean Academy and Frontier School of the Bible in LaGrange, Wyo. He was a member of Emmaus Mennonite Church, active in Campus Crusade for Christ, and taught the Good News Club in Potwin.

He enjoyed spending time with friends, hunting, motorcycling and athletics.

He is survived by his parents, Jim and Liz Pearce of Whitewater; four brothers, Jared and wife, Andrea, of Benton, Anthony of Emporia, and Randall and Loren, both of Whitewater; grandfather, Walter Busenitz of Whitewater; niece, Olivia; and many aunts, uncles and friends.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, James and Hope Pearce, and Susie Busenitz.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lamb Funeral Home in Whitewater.

Committal service will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Schaffer Cemetery in rural Butler County, followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at Berean Academy in Elbing.
