A. (MEADORS)
Teda A. (Meadors) McAllister, 100 of El Dorado, former Sarah Griggs Nursing Home employee and childcare provider,
died Sunday, July 12, 1992 at a local nursing home. Memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kirby Morris
Funeral Home with burial following in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
She was born Dec. 5, 1891 in Gravette, Ark., to A. J. and Pricey (Creekmore) Meadors. She moved to El Dorado from
Arkansas in 1951. She attended the Baptist Church.
Survivors include: sons, Kenneth of El Dorado, Eugene of Leon, half brother, Hays Meadors of Carthage, Mo.; half
sister, Oval Kelly of Joplin, Mo., 23 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, two sons, one daughter, three stepsons and one sister. (El Dorado

LINDSEY ANNE
Lindsey Anne McClure, of El Dorado, 14 month old daughter of Troy and Dawn McClure, died Friday, July 3, 1992 at
HCA Wesley Medical Center. Services are 3 p.m. Tuesday at Carlson Funeral Home with burial following in Sunset
Lawns Cemetery.
She was born April 20, 1991 in El Dorado.
Other survivors include brother, Jeffery, sister, Whitney, both at home; grandparents, Linda and Leroy Lakin, Stephen
McCLure, Barbara Miner all of El Dorado, great-grandparents, Emma McClure, of Leon, Oscar and Dola Stuart of El
Dorado, Edna and Lib Nickelson of Mount View, Mo.

GREGORY ALLEN
Gregory Allen Miles, 33, of Derby, died Monday morning, June 29, 1992 at Medical Lodge in Wichita. Services will
be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Carlson Funeral Home with burial following in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
He was born Sept. 5, 1958, in Garden City to Van and Carrol Martin Miles. He had been a student at Starkey Development
Center in Wichita and spent his entire life in Derby.
Survivors include parents Van and Carrol Miles of Derby, brothers, Jeffery, David, Tracy all of Derby; sisters,
Linda Osborn of Derby, Marlene Howell of Wichita, Cheryl Carmichael of Sedgwick, Jill Gourlay of Longmont, Colo.,

MULVANEY,
FRANCES E.
Frances E. Mulvaney, 66, of 302 S. Main, died Friday evening in El Dorado. Funeral services are scheduled for 2
p.m. Monday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Burial will follow the services in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
Mrs. Mulvaney was born Dec. 7, 1918 in Butler County, the daughter of Russell and Hattie Boone Sluss. She had lived
all her life in this area. Memberships included the First Christian Church and the Butler County Retarded Children.
Survivors include one son, William Skinner of El Dorado; two daughters, Tammy Gann of West Linn, Ore., and Carla
Misejka of Blue Springs, Mo.; one brother, Russell Sluss, Jr., of El Dorado, Megan and Will Gann of West Linn,
Ore. And Brandon and Kristi Misejka of Blue Springs, Mo.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Mulvaney; one sister, Betty Brown; and her parents.
A memorial has been established with the Butler County Retarded Childrens Association. Contributions can be sent

RADER,
CHARLOTTE
Charlotte Rader, 69, El Dorado, mother of Augustan Jim Burns, died today at the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital
in El Dorado.
Her service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Rev. Larry Moff, pastor of the Temple Baptist
Church, will officiate and burial will be in the Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 17, 1912 at El Dorado as a daughter William and Mable Ellenberger Counter.
She married Wendell Rader Feb. 13, 1940. He preceded her in death in March of 1973.
Mrs. Rader had lived in Butler County all her life and was a member of the Temple Baptist Church at El Dorado.
In addition to the son here, she leaves Jack Burns of Hollywood, Calif., and Gary Burns of El Dorado; a daughter,
Judy Church of El Dorado; a sister, Chloe Ridgway of El Dorado, 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. (El

SAMUELS,
JOSEPH W.
Joseph W. Samuels, a long time Butler Countian, died early this morning at Allen Memorial hospital following a
three week illness. Mr. Samuels, who lived at 609 South Gordy, was 69 years old.
He had lived in this county most of his life except for five years residence at Eureka and Chase.
He was an oil field tank building prior to his retirement in 1959.
Mr. Samuels was born Sept. 17, 1894, at Marshall, Mo. He and Nancy Ellen Morris were married Feb. 19, 1940, at
Quitman, Tex.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two brothers, Ward of Shackleford, Mo., and Charley of Marshall, four nephews,
and one niece.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, at 2 p.m. at the Dietz-Pittman Colonial Chapel by the Rev. Robert
McNary. Interment will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
The casket will not be opened at the services. Friends may call at the funeral home. (El Dorado Times, March 12,

SHIVELY, HELEN
Helen Shively, 75, of El Dorado, died Saturday evening, Nov. 5, 1994 at Susan B. Allen Hospital. Services are 11
a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. Dr. Dennis Kuder will
officiate the services.
She was born Nov. 21, 1918 in Holland, Mo., the daughter of John Patrick and Annie (Archer) Little and moved to
Butler County as a child. She graduated in 1936 from El Dorado High School. In 1936 she and Roy Langley were married.
He died in 1950. In 1953 she and C. Kenneth Shively were married in Augusta.
She worked at Mobil Refinery in Augusta from 1951 to 1966. She returned to El Dorado in 1972 and worked for several
real estate companies until her retirement. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the church
circle. She wrote poetry, for which she received several state awards and had poems published in the book In Retrospect.
Survivors include: husband, C. Kenneth; sons, Kenneth Langley of Greenville, S. C., Phillip Langley, of Lenexa;
daughter, Linda Horton of Scranton, Penn., sister, Elsie Larsen of Las Vegas, Nev., nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.
Memorials are to the First United Methodist Church. Kirby Morris Funeral Home has the arrangements. (El Dorado

SICKELBOWER,
JOSEPH
Joseph Sickelbower, a 52-year resident of El Dorado, died Monday night at the Valley View convalescent home. Mr.
Sickelbower, whose address ws 1100 Cherokee, was 89 years old.
He came to El Dorado in 1912 after having lived in the Elbing community and in Fairview township.
He was a carpenter for the Cities Service Oil Co., prior to his retirement in 1939.
Mr. Sickelbower was born Dec. 20, 1874, in Illinois. He and Allie Zimmerman were married Dec. 27, 1893, at Newton.
She died Oct. 2, 1954.
Survivors include one son, Erven, 531 Frazier, and one brother, Ed, of Scott City, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, four brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Kirby Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Joe Riley Burns, pastor
of the First Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. (El Dorado Times, April

Final rites for Joseph Sickelbower, 89, of 1100 Cherokee who died Monday, were conducted Thursday afternoon at
the Kirby Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Joe Riley Burns, pastor of the First Methodist Church.
Mrs. Fred W. Burr sang "How Great Thou Art," and "My God and I." The organist was Mrs. H. W.
Bullerdiek.
Casket bearers were Thomas A. Foster, Harry J. Cousland, John O. Green, S. A. Horton, Delbert Zimmerman and Melvin
Maddux.
Burial was in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. (El Dorado Times, 1964)
SMITH,
WILLIAM J.
Funeral services for William J. Smith, 71, of 915 North Denver, who died Friday at his home, will be conducted
at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at the Dietz-Pittman Colonial chapel.
The Rev. Letha Wood, pastor of the Living Water chapel, will officiate.
Mr. Smith was born Oct. 30, 1898, at Reed's Station, Mo. He was married to Ilene Gragg Hamilton on Aug. 18, 1929
in El Dorado. He was a resident of El Dorado most of his adult life, working as a plant gauge for the El Dorado
Refining Company until his retirement in 1954.
Mr. Smith was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church and the Oil, Chemical, and Atomic Workers Union, Local
5-241.
He is survived by his wife of the home, five sons, Carmon Hamilton of 308 Eunice, Don Smith, of 1003 Skyview drive,
William D. Smith of 810 North Denver, and Jerry Smith of Augusta, two daughters, Mrs. Orval Rose, of 628 North
Washington, and Mrs. Herb Mills, of Towanda and one sister, Mrs. Bessie Waterman of Altoona.
There are 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by three sisters, two brothers, and two grandsons and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Marsha
Smith, for whom funeral services were conducted Friday.
Burial will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. (El Dorado Times, February 14, 1970)

Retired American Petrofina employee Carl F. Usrey, 65, 1618 North Topeka, died Saturday at Allen Memorial hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Dietz-Carlson Colonial Chapel. Rev. Richard Bacon, pastor of the Augusta
Christian Church, officiated. Interment was in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
John Schaak sang "In The Garden," and "Old Rugged Cross," accompanied by Mrs. Amos B. Marsh
at the organ.
Casket bearers were Charles Remmert, Glenn Hobson, Bob Kinsinger, Fred Ury, Roy Ingalls and Don Meek.
Masonic rites were conducted by C. Vern Myers, orator, Patmos Lodge 97, AF & AM.
Born May 3, 1911 at Columbus, Mr. Usrey was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Frank Usrey (Laura Jane Neuberry).
He married Dorothy May Huff in 1932. She died in 1945. On September 1947, he married Julia M. Tabb in Bowling Green,
Ohio. She survives.
Mr. Usrey had worked for 45 years for El Dorado Refining company and American Petrofina. He retired May 31 of this
year. Coming to El Dorado in1921, he had previously lived at Columbus and Rosalia.
Mr. Usrey was a member of the First Christian church; Patmos Lodge 97, AF & AM; Past Watchman of Shepherds
of the White Shrine, Andrina Chapter, OES; Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers union; El Dorado chapter 25, R. A.
M.; El Dorado Commandary 19, Knights Templar; and El Dorado Council 20, Royal and Select Masons.
Other survivors include a son; Kenneth, Grand Island, Neb.; two daughters, Mrs. Fayrene Belt, Ellinwood, and Mrs.
Carlene Mae Pennington, Augusta; a brother, Clyde Norwood, Mo., two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Rogers, Mountain Green,
Mo.; and Mrs. Leora Parson, Wichita, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A sister preceded him in death.
Memorials have been established with the American Heart association or the Sir Knight Eye foundation. (Butler County

Services for Carl F. Usrey of 1618 North Topeka were held Tuesday afternoon at the Dietz-Carlson Colonial Chapel.
He died Saturday.
The Rev. Richard Bacon, pastor of the Augusta Christian Church, officiated. Mrs. Amos B. Marsh played the prelude
and the postlude at the organ. John Schaak sang "In the Garden," and "Old Rugged Cross."
Casket bearers were Charles Remmert, Glenn Hobson, Bob Kinsinger, Fred Ury, Roy Ingalls and Don Meek.
Burial was in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. Masonic graveside services were conducted by Patmos Lodge No. 87, A.F. &

VARBLE,
JOHN G.
John G. Varble, aged 60 years, died at 8 o'clock last evening at St. Luke's Hospital, after an illness of six months'
duration. Mr. Varble was admitted to the hospital on February 22. His home here was at 204 North Gordy Street.
Mr. Varble had been a resident of El Dorado for the past 12 years having come here from Springfield, Mo. He followed
the barbering profession, and had been employed here at Crockett's Barber Shop and later at Ballard's shop on West
First Avenue. He was well known in El Dorado, and his many friends sincerely regret his death.
Mr. Varble was born at Louisville, Ky., on May 24, 1870. While still a youth, he left Louisville and went to Springfield,
Mo., where he lived until coming to El Dorado 12 years ago. His marriage to Miss Anna Belle Minor took place at
Springfield in 1892.Mrs. Varble died on March 12, 1917.
Two sons and two daughters, survive. They are: Mrs. Estell Peterson, Iola; George W. Varble, El Dorado; Harry G.
Varble, El Dorado; and Mrs. Lillie Pearl Detter, El Dorado. One daughter, Hazel, died at the age of four years.
The funeral services will be held at the Byrd Funeral Home at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, with the Rev. A. R.
Neese, pastor of the Nazarene Church, in charge. Burial will be the West Cemetery. (El Dorado Times, Saturday,

CHARLES CLEO
Charles Cleo Williams, 68 of 2012-1/2 West Central, died Monday evening at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Dietz-Carlson Colonial Chapel with burial in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
Mr. Williams was born Nov. 25, 1908 at Bartlesville, Okla., the son of Charles and Laura Lawson Williams. He was
an oil field worker and had last worked for Albert Hogoboom Oil Field Trucking Service. He retired about four years
ago. He had spent most of his life in the El Dorado area.
On July 27, 1929, he married Marie Reed at Bartlesville.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Vernon and Steven, both of El Dorado, and Leroy of Florence;
six daughters, Mrs. Norma Edwards, Mrs. Doris Higgins, Mrs. Dorothy Boone and Mrs. Peggy Barker, all of El Dorado;
Mrs. Carol Sue Faulkner of Fort Scott, and Mrs. Shyrl Rupert of Hesston; a brother, Roy Williams of El Dorado;
a sister, Mrs. Leona McMurtie of Bartlesville; 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Duane and Kenneth and a half brother. (El Dorado Times, October

Luis Zepeda, age 37 of Winfield, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 1989 at the William Newton Memorial Hospital, Winfield.
Service 10 a.m. Saturday, St. John's Catholic Church of El Dorado. Rotary: Friday 7, p.m. Kirby Morris Funeral
Home. Burial will be at Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
Mr. Zepeda was born Sept. 2, 1952 in Port Vaca, Texas, the son of Simon and Frances Flores Zepeda. He was a member
of the Roman Catholic Church.
Survivors: mother, Frances of El Dorado, two brothers, Simon Jr., of Pleasanton, Texas, Henry of San Antonio, Texas,
10 sisters, Mary Ozburn of Lena, Ill., Susan Hererra of Dumas, Texas., Bertha Lucero of Amarillo, Texas, Bea Beal
of El Dorado, Belinda Thomas of El Droado, Juanita Lucera of Amarillo, Texas., Dela Zepeda of El Dorado, Leticia
Stanley of Amarillo, Texas, Anita Lord of Cushing, Okla., and JoANn Thornburn of El Dorado. He was preceded in
death by his father, and one brother, Manuel.
Memorial has been established in his name at the Winfield State Hospital, Winfield. Kirby Morris Funeral Home has

Services for Luis Zepeda, age 37, of Winfield were held Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church. Monsignor Charles
Walsh officiated. Burial followed at Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
Mr. Zepeda died Sept. 6, 1989 at Winfield. He was born Sept. 2, 1952 at Port Vaca, Texas.
Virginia Moreland was organist. Casket bearers were John Beal, Griffin Thomas, David Reidmiller, Bob Thornburn,
