BAUM, SUSAN
MRS. SUSAN BAUM DIES AT HOSPITAL IN WICHITA
Mrs. Susan Baum died at the Wesley Hospital in Wichita yesterday at the age of 82 years. The funeral services will
be held at the Methodist Church here at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Interment will be made in the Cumberland
Cemetery.
She is survived by five sons, F.E. Church, Wichita; W.R. and G.B. Church and Pearl Baum, Augusta, and Pete Baum, Towanda, three daughters, Mrs. Minnie Peebler and Mrs. Ida Kush, Augusta, and Mrs. Charles Tague, Udall; One step-brother, C.W. Baum, Humbolt; two sisters, Mrs. Harry Green, Lawrence and Mrs. Fannie Reed, Seward, Okla. and 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was a member of the M.E. Obit: William Robert Church born January 14, 1869 in Lynn County Iowa, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Church departed this life at the age of 81 years, 5 months.
William R. Church was united in marriage to Inez Jonell Cron September 28,1892 at El Dorado, Kansas. To this union was born a daughter, Vivian who resides on a farm close to the parental home near Augusta.
Mr. Church is survived by his wife, Jonella, his daughter Vivian Wilson, three grandchildren, Robert, Jack and Joyce Wilson and a great grandchild, Jerry Wilson, sisters, Mrs. Minnie Peebler and Mrs. Abbie Kush of Augusta. Brothers, Pearl Baum and Peter Baum of Augusta.
A resident of this cummunity all his life Mr. Church saw the virgin soil turned into fertile fields. He was truly a pioneer. As a young man his face had been scorched many times by the blistering south winds as he hewed out a home and livelihood for his family. He was a good neighbor, a good father and a good man, always ready to lend a willing hand when adversity struck.
Mr. Church attended the Zion Cummunity Church and took active participation in its functions and charities.
Mr. Church will be greatly missed but the cherished memory of his accomplishments and kindnesses wil live on in the hearts of those who knew him well and loved him.
Services were held at Dunsford Funeral Home, July
3, 1950 at 4 p.m. in Augusta, Kansas. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased. They were; Frank Church, Orvis

Obit: LEWIS BAUM PASSES AWAY
Lewis Baum died at his home in Bloomington township Wednesday evening January 30. Lewis Baum was born in Ohio,
June 7, 1824, making him
nearly 88 years old.
Lewis Baum came to Butler County in 1870 and was
married to Mrs. Susan Church in 1877, who with four children, and four children with his first wife survive him.
He died of old age, having been quite feeble for some time. The funeral will be held from the Cumberland Church,

FRANK L CHURCH DIED AT AMCI
Frank L. "Boone" Church, 76, 207 W. Third, died yesterday at the Augusta Medical Complex. His funeral
will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. A menorial has been established with the American Lung
Association.
He was born June 23, 1910, in Carthage, Mo., to George and Sallie Treadway Church. Mr. Church was a retired Mobil Refinery Co. employee where he was a warehouse coordinator.
Survivors enclude sons, Kenny of Beaumont, Tx., Bob of Augusta and Raymond of Anaheim, Calif. daughters, Linda Adams of Augusta, Georgia Ahrens of ;Springfield, Ohio; brother, Willard of El Dorado; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Obit: Robert W. "Bob" Wilson, 85, Augusta, passed away Tuesday Nov. 11, 2008. Memorial service 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta.
Robert was born in Wichita on Sept. 30, 1923 the son of the late Fred B. Wilson and Vivian V. Church Wilson. On March 1, 1944 he married Mary Hope in El Dorado. He worked as a farmer/rancher and truck driver and also served in the U.S. Army as a PFC during WWII.
In addition to his wife he is survivied by daughter, Katerine Garrett of Augusta; sons, Jerry Wilson of Florida and Tim Wilson of Augusta; sister, Joyce Brandt of Augusta; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by brother, Jack Wilson.

Vivian Viola Wilson, 96, Augusta, died Thesday,
June 16, 1998. Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 19, at the First Christian Church of Augusta. Rev.
Tom Davis of First Christian Church will officiate and burial will be in the Cumberland Cemetery, southeast of
Augusta. She was born Dec. 17, 1901 in Augusta as the daughter of William R. Church and Jonella I Cron Church.
On June 10, 1920 she married Fred B. Wilson in Wichita. He Preceded her in death April 26, 1981.
This retired Beech Aircraft personel employee was a member of Eastern Star and First Christian Church.'She leaves
2 sons; Robert W. Wison of Augusta, and Jack Wilson of Anaheim, Calif.; daughter Joyce Brandt of Augusta; seven
grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Two grandchildren also preceded her in death-Douglas Brandt and Jonella Wilson.

CHURCH, WILLARD R., 92, retired U.S.D. 490 custodian, died Friday, July 23, 1999. Service 1 p.m. Monday. Kirby-Morris Funeral Home.
Survivors: sons, Andy of Wichita, Philip of Fayetteville, Ark.; daughter, Wilda Overland of Okalhoma City; three grand-children; five great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild.

FRED B WILSON DIES AT 80
Fred Bryan Wilson, 80, Route 4 died yesterday at the Walnut Valley Manor Nursing Home. His service will be at 2
p.m. Thursday at the Dunsford Furnal
Home. Rev. Burl Allison Jr. will officiate and burial will be in the Cumberland Cemetey.
Memorials have been established with the American
Cancer Society and the American Heart Association. He was born April 28, 1900 in Fairview (Ks) to William
Russell and Mary McGuire Wilson. He married Vivian Church June 10, 1920 in Wichita. She survives. He was a retired
farmer and stockman and a member of the Butler County Livestock Association. Also member of the Mystic Tie Lodge
Number 74, the Eastern Star and the Plymouth Congregational Church.
Other survivors include 2 sons, Robert W. Wilson of Augusta, and Jack Wilson of An aheim, Calif. A daughter, Joyce

Obit: Clara E. Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Rebenstorf was born on May 14, 1887 at Wetmore, and passed from this life on April 6, 1967 at the age of 79 years. On Feburary 12, 1908 she was united in marriage to John Thomas Wilson at Wetmore, who preceeded her in death on January 30, 1948.
She leaves to mourn her passing two sons; John H. Wilson of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and William H. Wilson of Hutchinson, and five grandchildren.
Mrs. Wilson came to this area from Abilene, in
1912, She was a member of the Eastern Star and of the First Baptist Church. Funeral service was conducted on Saturday,,
April 8, 1967 at 2:30 p.m. from the Dunsford Funeral Home with the Rev. Vernon V. White, pastor of the First Baptist
church officiating. Mrs. Viola
Bagby presided at the chapel organ. Casketbearers were: Toby Rebenstorf, Dolan Brandt, Ray Prigmore, Bob Wilson,
Charles Merritt and Newton Male.

Obit: E. A. Pfaff whol lived three miles southeast of Augusta, died in the St. Francis Hospital at Wichita Sunday April 18, 1904 at 2 p.m.. He had been under medical treatment for sdeveral months here at home but on Sunday the 10th he was taken to Wichita for treatment and died just one week later. He was a native of North Carolina, and was and was 63 years old at his death. When quite young he was converted and united with the Moravian Church and from that time lived a consistent Christian life till his death occurred. He was united in marriage with Martha A. Flynt in 1863. In 1887 he came with his family to Kansas and settled on the Little Walnut and here he united with the M.E. church South. There were three children born to him but two died in childhood. He leaves one son one sister, one brother, and a host of friends to mourn for him. He has gone to join his wife who was called away three years ago. The writer conducted the funeral services at the old home, and at the Cumberland Presbyterian church, near Bodarc last Tuesday. The church was filled with kind and sympathizing friends and neighbors. After an impressive service founded on the text "Arise ye and depart for this is not your rest". The body was conveyed to the cemetery and laid away to await the ressurrection day. (Augusta Daily Gazette, April 1904, submitted by Arletta Wilson)
Alonzo Carter age 80 years, resident of Chelsea
community for the past 61 years died this morning following an illness of a week. He made his home here for sometime
with his sister Mrs. William R. Peal of El Dorado.
Mr. Carter a retied farmer was born March 10, 1863 in Linton Indiana and moved to El Dorado March 1882 and resided
here since. He was married to Elizabeth Becker May 5, 1898 at Chelsea. She died March 24, 1940. Mr. Carter was
well known and most favorable by a large number of friends and residents of the community. He is survived by a
foster daughter Mrs. Darrell Welty of Matfield Green Ks, two sisters Mrs. William R. Peal of El Dorado, Ks. Mrs.
Alma Davidson of El Dorado Springs Missouri, two brother Will Carter of Durham Ks., R.A. Carter of El Dorado.
Mr. Carter was a member of the Methodist Church of El Dorado.
Funeral arrangements will be annoucned by Arnold-Kirby funeral home in El Dorado on South Star. (El Dorado Times,

Joshua Carter an early pioneer of Butler County
died here July 7, 1919. Joshua is the child of Emock and Polly Carter and was born Janaury 1, 1828 in Bedford
Indiana. Joshua married Christina Lynn in March 1862 in Linton Indiana and was blessed with 10 children. The
family moved from Bowdre Illinois in March 1882 to Chelsea Kansas and moved on the old Cartey farm now known as
the Mcclure farm. The family arrived at the Leon Ks train depot with three box cars of live stock, furniture,
and six children. Joshua made his living as a farm most of his life. He was very well known in the Chelsea community.
Joshua is survived by his wife ' Christiana" of the home and eight of his ten children, William Carter of
Tampa Ks, Alonzo Carter of Chelsea, Sylvester Carter of Chelsea, Ransom Carter of El Dorado, Mrs. E. R. Davidson
" Alma" of El Dorado, Mrs. William R. Peal " Estella" of Augusta and Mrs, F. E. Wilson "
Alta" of Durham N. Carolina.
Two of his daugthers, Effie and Mary preceeded him in death. Joshua will be buried along side his daughters in

CARTER, CHRISTINA
LYNN
Christina Lynn Carter an early pioneer of Butler County passed away at 8 o'clock with her family at her side at
her home in Chelsea.
Christina was born February 27, 1842 in Linton Green Co. Indiana to the parents of William and Mary Lynn. She
was the oldest of seven children. Her parents are of English descent and her mother coming to this country from
Deveonshire England at the age of 12.
Christina married Joshua Carter on March 30, 1862 in Linton. They were blessed with ten children. They moved
to Illinois in 1869 and in March of 1882, moved to Chelsea. The family arrived at the train Depot in Leon Kansas
with three box cars of live stock, furiture and six children.
Chrisitina was a long time member of the Chelsea Methodist Church.
She leaves to mourn her brother David Lynn of Worthington,
Indiana, sister Mrs E. R. Davidson "Alma" of El Dorado, Mrs. Wm R. Peal "Estella" of Augusta,
Ks., Mrs. F. E. WIlson " Alta" of Durham N. Carolina., William Carter of TAmpa, Ks. Seventeen grandchildren
and three great grandchildren. Christina is preceeded in death by three of her chidlren, Mary, Effie and Cleoa.
Funeral service held in the afternoon at the Chelsea Methodist Church, Rev. Paul Holm officating. Burial will be

died Thursday morning July 17, 2008 at a local nursing home. Grave side servie will be held at 11:00 A. M. Saturday
