Joan Irene Huston, 73, of Arkansas city, died Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at her residence. The family will greet friends at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City Saturday, March 4, from 2-4 p.m. Cremation will then be effected.
Joan was born Jan. 11, 1933, in Iola, to Ollie and Mittie (Albom) Stern. She was reared and educated in Iola. She married Gene Huston in 1982 in Arkansas City. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: three sons, Steven Fitzgeralds of Arkansas city, Patrick W. Walker of Ponca City, Okla., and Cecil Fitzgeralds Jr. of Council Grove; three daughters, Colleen Chastain of Pittsburg, JoLynne Stalnaker of Arkansas City, and Patricia Smith of Mississippi; a brother, Jack of Washington, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gene in 1977; a brother, Wayne Bryant; and a sister, Pat Drucker.
A memorial has been established with the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Bedford Alvin Magnus, Manhattan, died at Mercy Regional Health Center on March 19, 2006. Services are 11 a.m. Friday, March 24, at the First Baptist Church, 2121 Blue Hills Rd., Manhattan, with rev. Karen and Alan Selig officiating. Graveside servicese will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Brandtford Covenant Church Cemetery, Clyde.
Bedford's family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.
Bedford was a son of Alvin and Lillie Andrewson Magnus, born in Washington County, near Brandford on May 29, 1925. He grew up in the Brandtford area and was confirmed as a teenager in the Brandford Covenant Church near Clyde. Belford graduated from Agenda High School in 1943 and immediately enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps and served on Iwo Jima, was there when our American flag was raised, Okinawa, Guam and occupation of Japan. He was discharged in April 1946.
In the fall of 1946, Bedford enrolled at Kansas State University in electrical engineering, graduating in 1950. He worked with Kansas Gas & Electric and KPL - Westar Energy for 38 years. He retired from Westar in Emporia as District Manager in 1990.
Bedford and Lois Folsom were married on June 2, 1948, in the Brandtford Covenant Church, Clyde. In 1991, they moved to Manhattan.
He has always been active in civic affairs in the towns in which they loved. He was Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce in El Dorado and also Emporia. He was co-leader in starting the Endowment Fund for the Butler County Community College in El Dorado.
Bedford held memberships in the First Baptist Church, Manhattan; the President's Club at Kansas State, KSU Ahearn Club, Kansas State Alumni Association, Manhattan Catbackers Club, Manhattan Rotary Club, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the U. S. Marine 5th Amphibious Corps Signal Battalion Reunion Group. In 1991, Lois, his wife organized the 5th Amphibious Corps and Signal Battalion with his Marine buddies. The group meets annually in various cities throughout the country.
He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Kansas State University, its academic and athletic activities. He was awarded for recognition of distinguished service in the field of engineering in 1992.
Currently Bedford was serving on the Board of Trustees for the Manhattan Retirement Foundation at Meadowlark Hills.
Survivors include: his wife, Lois of the home; daughters, Sandra Magnus Cartmill and her husband, Jack of Midland, Texas, and Jan Magnus Stegmann and her husband Tom of San Jose, Calif., two grandchildren, Whitney Cartmill of Dallas, Texas, and Jarrod Cartmill of Midland, Texas, two sisters, Alvina Magnus Holmes and husband Bob of Topeka, and Leona Magnus Bausch of Elma, Wash., one brother, Dale Mangus and wife Evelyn of Del City, Okla., and one brother-in-law, Charles Dean and wife Alma of Escondido, Calif.
His parents and a sister, Julie Magnus Dean preceded him in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist church, Manhattan or the Bedford Magnus Electrical Engineering Scholarship at Kansas State University Foundation. William A. "Bill" Manning, 64, of Rosalia, passed away Saturday morning, March 18, 2006, at his residence with his family by his side. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 21 at St. John's Catholic Church of El Dorado. Burial will follow in the Burns Cemetery.
Bill was born March 11, 1942, in Newton, the son of Wilbur Brink and Rosemary (Ammeter) Manning. He grew up in Burns and graduated from Burns High School with the class of 1960. Bill served his country in the United States Army as a crew chief for the plane "Otter" stationed in France. He was united in marriage to Alice Stufflebean on Jan. 15, 1966 in Woodward, Okla.
Bill graduated from Southwest State of Weatherford, Okla., with a degreein pharmacy. He and his family moved to Halstead where he was the owner and operator of the Halstead Pharmacy. After 18 years in Halstead, they moved to Spokane, Wash., where they resided for more than 15 years. Bill and Alice moved to Rosalia in 2003. They spent their time together building the home they lived in.
Bill attended St. John's Catholic Church. He had a passion for flying that started at the age of 14. He was known for his great sense of humor and the love that he had for his wife, children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Alice of the home, sons, David Manning and wife Laura of Chewelah, Wash., and John Manning and wife Kathy of Centerton, Ark., daughters, Teressa Longmire of Seattle, Wash., and Jody Manning of Boulder, Colo., sister, Julane Hiebert of Cassoday and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, "Baby Teddy."

Maria Labrezze Miles, 89, Wichita, formerly of rural El Dorado, died yesterday at her home.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be at Elmwood cemetery.
She was born July 27, 1893 in Sovar, Spain to Paul and Marguerite Labrezze.
She married Frank O. Miles June 14, 1920 in Algiers, Algeria. He preceded her in death in 1959.
Survivors include a son, Charles D. Miles of Towanda; daughters, Mary van Huss and Joan Smith, both of Wichita; 11 grandchildren and eight-great-grandchildren. (El Dorado Times, April 11, 1983)
Mrs. Melvina M. Mitchell aged 84 years seven months and three days, died Saturday morning in Augusta. The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the Baptist church. Rev. J. T. dowell conducting the services. (Walnut Valley Times, January 16, 1914)
Tina Marie Morgan, 46, of El Dorado, died Thursday, March 2, 2006 at Via-Christi St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita. Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 6 at Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
She was born April 2, 1959 in El Dorado and was a waitress in several different restaurants. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sons, Christopher Morgan of Sedan and Travis Morgan of Whitesboro, Texas, a daughter, Amanda Hamm of El Dorado, two brothers, Mark Erpelding of Owasso, Texas, and Jeffrey Erpelding of Plainview, Texas, sister, Linda Reed of El Dorado, her step-father, Kenneth Schmidt of El dorado, three grandchildren, Quinton Morgan, Madison Morgan and Page Morgan; and two uncles, Robert Schmidt of Cassoday and Leonard Erpelding of El Dorado.

Icy E. Murphy, 90, El Dorado, formerly of Augusta, died today at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital there.
Her service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the El Dorado First Christian Church. Rev. William Longman will officiate and burial will be in the Walnut Valley Memorial Park Cemetery there.
Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society and the First Christian Church in El Dorado.
She was born Dec. 27, 1892 in Augusta to Turner A. and Iva Hughes Rutherford.
She married Harry H. Murphy Aug. 12, 1919 in El Dorado. He survives.
They lived in the Snow and economy areas between El Dorado and Augusta for many years.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, the Snow Club and the Economy EHU.
Other survivors include a son; Alfred Murphy of Wichita; daughters, Eva Lachenmayr of Walnut Creek, Calif., Virginia Sluss and Mary McCoy, both of El Dorado; sisters Mary Smith and Susie Morris, both of El Dorado; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The Leon Community was shocked and saddened shortly after noon Friday of last week when it was learned that R. C. (Carroll) Richardson, 57, of Leon had died suddenly while sitting down at the table to eat his noon meal at 1:00 p.m. He suffered a heart seizure and died without warning. He had been to town on his tractor just before he arrived home at noon, attending to some business matters and chatting with some old friends. His health hadn't been too good of late months.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Kirby Funeral Home Chapel with rev. Richard Robbins, pastor of the Leon Methodist Church, officiating.
Mrs. Arleta Hammer and Mrs. Bette Morris sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Peace in the Valley," with Mrs. Harold Jones at the organ.
Casket bearers included Roy Ireland, Roy Brown, Gilbert and Leroy Larson, Edwin Cabeen and Charles Maclean.
Burial was made in the Leon cemetery.
Roy Carroll, twin son of Claude and Florence Brissey Richardson was born May 17, 1906 on a farm north of Leon, and departed this life at his farm home near Leon, Friday, April 24, 1964, at the age of 57 years, 11 months and 7 days.
When he was 8 years old in 1914, he and his parents moved to South Haven, Kansas, where he grew to young manhood. He went to California to work and there met and married Beatrice Edna Gerald at Modesto, California, in September 1928. To this union were born two sons and a daughter.
He returned to Leon in 1938 with his wife and son, Jack, to make their life on their present farm. He was a farmer but also was employed with Boeing for 18 years as a sheet metal worker and assemblyman. He also worked some in the oil fields.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Kenneth who also died of a heart attack on April 20, 1958 while on a fishing trip.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, a daughter, Casey Marie, 11, of the home; two sons, Jack L., San Francisco, Calif., and Larry L. Brownsville, Texas, five grandchildren, Mary Rene and Leigh Ann Richardson, Christopher, Todd, and Sam Richardson and three sisters, Mrs. Guy (Cleo) Patterson, Albuquerque, N. Mex., Mrs. J. T. (Bessie) Thompson, Sheldon Mo., and Mrs. Harry (Nita). (El Dorado Times, April 30, 1964)
Frances O'Bryan Scott, 80, of Winfield, died Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka.
She was born Nov. 18, 1925, in Wichita, the daughter of Chester and Vera A. (Squier) O'Bryan. She attended grade school in Beaumont and graduated from Leon High school in 1943. That summer she attended school in Butler County. She taught in one-room schools in both Butler and Greenwood counties until 1956. She was superintendent of schools in Greenwood County from 1957 to 1963. In 1964, Frances graduated from Emporia State with a BS degree in education. She received nine undergraduate hours and 37 graduate hours from Emporia State, Wichita State, Arkansas City and Southwestern College in Winfield. In 1966 until 1970 she was sixth grade teacher at Park School in McPherson. In 1971 Mrs. Scott moved to Winfield and taught sixth grade at Webster Elementary for a year and the fifth-sixth combination grade at Irving School in Winfield where she taught for 14 years.
In 1968 Frances was named Master Teacher for the year. After her retirement, many former students came to her home to visit. Frances had many friends. She had helped care for her mother.
Frances was a member of First United Methodist Church in Winfield.
In 1948, she married Hugh Scott and they had a daughter, Jan, who was born in 1958. Jan passed away at the age of six years and was her only child.
Survivors include a brother, Lyle O'Bryan of Leon; and many nieces and nephews.

Julie Lynn Searles, 41, of Peabody, died Thursday, March 2, 2006, at the Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita. Services are 2 p.m. Monday, March 6, at Baker Funeral Home in Peabody. Pastor Susan Flemr will officiate. Burial will follow in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Peabody. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include: husband, John Searles of Peabody, parents, Janet Arnold of Peabody and Johnny Rogers of Peabody, brothers, Jay Rogers of Cassville, Mo., step-brothers, Doug Arnold of Wichita and Steven Arnold of Kingston, Ark., and step-sister, Cheryl Arnold of Kingston, Ark.
