Monday afternoon the spirit of Elbert Osborn Noble passed away in this city. Mr. Noble was 70 years of age, and came to Baxter about 23 years ago and was Supt. of Public Schools after which he held a similar position in the Territory for a year or two and returned to Baxter where he has since made his home. Mr. Noble has been in ill health for many months but not a word of complaint has passed hi slips. He was of the kind that never spoke ill of anyone and was a christian in every sense of the word. The funeral was held at the M. E. Church yesterday afternoon and a large cortege followed the remains to the Cemetery. Mrs. Noble the only survivor has the sympathy of the many friends of the family in this community.

Solomon L. Winters, 98 years, 10 months, and three days old died at his home at 206 East Fourteenth Street at 11:25 o'clock last night after and illness of three years. Mr. Winters was born in Lawrenceville, N. Y. March 11, 1832 where he grew to manhood. He served three years in the Federal Army in Company I, Fifty-Sixth Massachusetts Volunteers. He was married to Miss Lula Cavanaugh, August 23, 1885. The Rev. J. H. Bell of Baxter Springs Methodist Church officiating. Mr. Winters was a carpenter and a cabinet maker. He operated a planning mill for a time and he built a number of residence buildings that are still standing. In his home are many pieces of furniture he constructed. He retired twelve years ago. The deceased was a charter member of the Baxter Springs I. O. O. F. Lodge, a member of the Rebekahs, the Baxter G. A. R. Post and the A. T. A. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lula Winters and a son by a former marriage. Funearl services will be held at the family home at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. The I. O. O. F. lodge will be in charge of the services with John Jennings delivering the sermon. Burial will be made in the G. A. R. Plot in the Baxter Springs Cemetery.
