Edward J. Sweem and old and highly respected citizen of this city died on Monday morning of this week, aged 80 years, 8 months and 17 days. The old gentleman just broke down in health, owing to his extreme age; although medical aid did all that was possible, it was in vain. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church yesterday after which the remains were interred in the Baxter Cemetery. Rev. W. T. White conducted the services under the auspices of G. A. R. Post No. 123. Besides the widow, Mr. Sweem left seven children to mourn his death. Mrs. A. T. Embree of this city is a daughter. Baxter Springs News - Mr. Ed J. Sweem died at his home on east Cedar street on Monday morning at 4 o'clock aged 81 years. He was an old G. A. R. and was well thought of by his comrades. Funeral services were held yesterday forenoon at 10 o'clock in the Methodist Church.
