May 29, 1932 at his home in Spring Valley Township, Kansas - he is a retired farmer - Wife Irene Burnett; Father - Bolden Burnett - Mother - Judia Jarrett

  James Burnett 90 year old Negro who was a slave prior to the Civil War and who served as a Private in Company C 12th Regiment U.S. Colored died Sunday afternoon at 2:15 o'clock at his home three miles northwest of here. He was born in Tennessee and came to this vicinity in 1880. He had lived at the place where he died for fifty years. Surviving are two sons, Charles Burnett of Parsons, and John Burnett of Baxter Springs, one daughter, Mrs. Bessie Estes of Baxter Springs, thirteen grandchildren and one sister Mrs. Lizzie Owens of Baxter Springs. Funeral rites will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the A. M. E. Church by Reverend Duncan assisted by the Reverend VanHoose. Burial will be in the U. S. A colored man by the name of Ewing who lived about 3-1/2 miles northwest of here died and was buried yesterday at the Soldiers Graveyard. He had been a soldier during the war. Soldiers Lot - Baxter Springs Cemetery

Died in Spring Valley Township - was a Farmer - Andrew Wright, a respected colored resident died yesterday at an advanced age and will be buried this afternoon in the Soldier's Plot at the cemetery. Deceased was a member of Co. F. 111th United States Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War.
