WINFIELD---Ralph Griffith, 88, retired Santa Fe Railway employee, died Friday. Service 2 p.m. Monday, Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home.

WINFIELD---Rex Morton, 76, retired restaurant owner, died Thursday. Service 10 a.m. Monday, Grace Episcopal Church, Winfield.
Survivors: wife, Ruth; son, Jim, daughter, Wanda Lee Morton, both of Winfield; stepdaughters, Amy goggin, Lois
McNair, both of Phoenix, Joan Conover of Red Bank, N.J., Louise Foudray of Atchison, Delores Schadegg of Winfield;
brother, Merle Morton of Wichita; sister, Alta Mae Hoving of Grand Rapids, Mich. Memorial has been established

ATKINSON, GARY DEAN
Double graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Udall Cemetery for two young brothers victims of the
Udall tornado disaster.
The boys are Stanley Joe, 5, and Gary Dean Atkinson, 12. Arrangements for the services are under the direction
of the Swisher Funeral Home, Winfield.
The boys parents Mr. and Mrs. Robert Atkinson are still on hospital critical lists. Mrs. Atkinson is being treated
at St. Joseph Hospital and Mr. Atkinson is at the Newton Memorial Hospital. Their son, Robert Jr., 15, is at St.
Mary's Hospital at Winfield being treated for broken bones and head and back injuries.
The family was sleeping in their home when the tornado struck. Robert Jr. says he jumped out of a window when the
house started to give way. He was found walking eight blocks from the home by rescuers Wednesday night. Atkins
was the owner of the Udall Grocery Store which was wrecked.
Surviving the two Atkinson boys are several aunts and uncles living in Wichita. They are Mrs. Glen L. Pendergast,
Mrs. Grace Clarke, Mrs. Carl Shreve, and Mrs. Harold Rutter and Harold Clarke. Two uncles living in Winfield are

BRADDY, DICKIE
Graveside services for Dickie Braddy, 11, killed in the Udall tornado disaster, will be held Sunday at 5 p.m. at
Udall cemetery.
Survivors including his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Braddy, are two sisters, Karen and Barbara; three brothers,
Dean and Dale, both of the home, and Don with the U. S. Navy at San Francisco, Calif. Don is being returned to
Udall for the services.
Other survivors are his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L. Scobie, Winfield, Kan., and the paternal grandparents,

Funeral services for a Navy veteran of World War II and his two sons, all of whom died in the Udall disaster last
Wednesday, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Hilyard Funeral Home at Douglass, Kan.
The storm victims were Nolan Wilmer Butcher, 45, who was born April 18, 1910, at Whitewater, Kan., Wilmer Edward
Butcher, 15, born October 3, 1939, at Douglass and Oran Paul Butcher, born September 22, 1948 at Udall.
The Rev. W. F. McKean, pastor of First Baptist Church at Mulvane will officiate at the mortuary service. It will
be followed by an American Legion graveside service for Mr. Butcher in Dunlap cemetery at Rose Hill, Kan. The two
sons will be buried beside him.
Mr. Butcher's wife, Neva, was released from St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita, Saturday after being treated for injuries
sustained in the tragedy. Another son, Donald still was in St. Joseph Hospital Saturday night. A daughter, Billie
Jo, 17, still is in St. Mary's Hospital at Winfield.
Also surviving are a son, Harold and two daughters, Venita and Vera who were released Saturday after hospitalization.
Other survivors are Mrs. Leva Bentley, Augusta, Kan., mother of Mr. Butcher; two sisters, Mrs. Cordelia Dill of
Augusta, and Mrs. James T. Malay, 206 W. 25th and two brothers, Oris Butcher, La Crosse, Kan., and Wayne Bentley,

RUDD, BENJAMIN F.
Funeral services for Benjamin F. Rudd, 85, who was killed in the Udall tornado Wednesday night, will be held Sunday
at Udall. Interment will be in the Udall Cemetery.
Mr. Rudd was born in Carole County, Ark., Dec. 22, 1869 and had resided in Udall for more than 50 years. He was
a retired farmer.
He was a member of the Methodist Church and an honorary member of the Royal Neighbors.
He is survived by five children, Mrs. Marie Schneider, Anchorage, Alaska, Mrs. Flo Travis of Wichita, Mrs. Doris
Sherrill, 2913 Sayles Court; two sons, Eugene Rudd, 2901 S. Walnut and Richard Rudd, San Diego, Calif., and six
