Ford County was organized in 1873. It was named for Col. James H. Ford, of the Seconds Colorado Cavalry. Dodge City is the county seat; besides the cities listed at the left, the communities of Bellefont, Bloom, Ft. Dodge, Howell, Kingsdown, Wilroads, Wilroads Gardens, Windhorst and Wright lie within the boundaries of Ford County.
