RIGGS, BETTIE JANE (BUNYARD)
Bettie Jane Bunyard Riggs, 85, of Arlington, Washington, formerly of Belle Plaine, Kansas passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2009. She was born to Harvey and Viola Bunyard on November 30, 1923 in Fall River, Kansas.
Bettie is survived by her daughter Gerri Riggs Hatfield and son-in-law David Hatfield of Arlington, Washington, grandchildren; Jeff Hatfield of Arlington, Washington, Jared and Kelly Hatfield of Stanwood, Washington and Jan Hatfield Fleck of Stanwood, Washington, great grandchildren; Lilly and Elijah Fleck of Stanwood, Washington, brothers Buck and Paul Bunyard both of Eureka, Kansas and sister Ruby Robert of Severy, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 48 years Virgil E. Riggs, one grandson Jason Hatfield, brothers and sisters; Virginia Hemry, George Bunyard, Bob Bunyard, Bill Bunyard, Mary Burt, Lee Bunyard and David Bunyard.
Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, November 6, 2009 at 10:30 AM at South Lawn Cemetery in Severy, Kansas. Arrangements are under the direction of Zimmerman Funeral Home, Howard, Kansas.
CASTLEMAN, ALVA LEROY
Alva Leroy Castleman, son of Adam and Margaret Castleman was born February 20, 1878 in the State of Indiana,
and passed away at the age of 69 years, one month and 1 day. When a small boy he came with his parents to Greenwood
county, Kansas where he grew to manhood.
At Eureka he became acquainted with and later married Ella Bobzien on October 2, 1900. To this union were born
two children, Mrs. Hazel Ludwick of Hartford, Kansas and Theodore Castleman, who preceded his father in death in
1934. Also they took into their home Marie Hanley, cousin of Mr. Castleman, who they cared for as their own until
grown.
They farmed and he worked in the oil fields for a number of years in Greenwood county, later moving to Chautauqua
county where they continued to farm for a short time, then moving to Elk county where he continued his occupation
until his health failed, then they moved to Elk Falls where they resided until his death. Leaving to mourn his
departure are his faithful wife and daughter, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, other relatives
and many friends.
Services were held at the Methodist church in Elk Falls at 2 p.m., conducted by R.L. Cecil. Burial was in the
Elk Falls cemetery under the direction of Moon Funeral Home in Howard.

DAVIS, OMAR CREED
Omar Creed Davis was born June 27, 1859, at Wheeling, West Virginia and departed this life at the home of Mrs.
Dorothy Willis, 522 West First Street, Saturday morning, April 16 at twelve forty-five a.m.
He came to Kansas with his parents at the age of eight years, and since then, he has resided in Eureka. On November
4, 1910, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Nettie Bane who proceeded hin in death about eight years ago. He leaves
to mourn his death two brothers, Jennings Wellington Davis of Birnawood, Wisconsin, and Edward Ellsworth Davis
of Cody, Wyoming, besides other relatives and a host of friends. Mr. Davis was loved by all who knew him, always
had a kind word for every one, ad was especially kind and generous to little children. (Democratic Messenger-April

HARSH, MAUDE E.
Mrs. Maude E. Harsh, 75, Cassoday, died Wednesday at Axtel Hospital, Newton. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m.
Saturday at the Cassoday Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Matfield Green Cemetery. Born August 10, 1896, at Matfield Green, she was married December 13, 1918 to Samuel Harsh at Matfield Green. They
moved from Matfield Green to Cassoday in 1929. Before she was married she was a school teacher in the Matfield Green area. She was a member of the Christian Church
and Cassoday Pinochle club. Survivors include her husband, of the home, and one sister, Mrs. Althea Bullock, Cassoday. Two brothers preceded her in death.

BEEDLES, M. PAULINE(BREWER)
M. Pauline Beedles, 86, died Friday (Nov. 13, 2009) at Kidron Bethel Health Care in North Newton.
She was born on Dec. 17, 1922, in Arkansas City to Emmitt L. and B. Madeline (Smith) Brewer.
She married Floyd Dee Beedles on Oct. 10, 1942, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 1992.
She was a member of Beaumont Christian Church in Beaumont and Eastern Star, where she received her 50-year pin. She enjoyed spending time reading.
Pauline greatly looked forward to spending time with her loving daughters and grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Janet Weaver of Newton and Judy Miller of Dodge City; a sister, Maxine Broadstock of El Dorado; and three grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents and sister Cheryl Jones.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka. Burial will be at the cemetery.
MOORE, MARY ANN (YARBROUGH)
Mary Ann Yarbrough, daughter of T.C. and Hannah Yarbrough was born in Green County, Tenn. April 16, 1874 and
departed this life February 28, 1941 at the age of sixty-six years ten months and twenty-two days. She came with
her parents to Piedmont, Kansas at the age of twelve years and spent the remainder of her life there. On November
19, 1893 she was united in marriage to Aaron E. Moore. To this union were born six children,five of whom are still
living. Funeral services were held from the Christian Church at Piedmont Sunday March 2, by Rev. Michael of Augusta.

PUGH,EDITH A (RALSTON)
Edith A. Pugh, 85, formerly of Wichita, passed away Nov. 22, 2009, at St. Luke Hospital in Marion. She was born Jan. 1, 1924, in Burlington, to Vernie and Viola (Crouch) Ralston. She was a retired sales associate for Sears. She was married to Leslie Wayne Pugh in November 1943. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Jerry Pugh; son-in-law, Ronnie Lovelady; and all of her sisters.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda and Bub Lovelady and Lala Lovelady, all of Marion; three grandchildren, Kristi Russell, Gary Carpenter, and Joe Lovelady; 11 great-grandchildren; and her friend, Otis Chandler.
Edith was a member of Marion Christian Church; the Queen Bess Chapter 56, Order of Eastern Star; American Legion Auxiliary Post 401; St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary; and the Christian Women’s Fellowship.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Marion Christian Church with the Rev. Carl Helm officiating. Interment will be in Quincy Cemetery, Quincy. In lieu of flowers, memorial funds have been established with Hospice Care of Kansas, Marion Christian Church, or Holy Family Parish in care of Zeiner Funeral Home. (Marion Record)
TAYLOR, BUSHROD J
Bushrod J. Taylor was born in Londoun county, Virginia, on May 19, 1846, and passed from this life at his home a few miles west of Fall River, Kansas, on Thursday, May 3, 1917, at the age of 70 years, 11 months, and 14 days. He has been in failing health for more than a year, and almost helpless for about six months with paralysis.
He was married in 1871 to Sallie Thrasher, and to this union were born ten children, three having died in infancy, and seven --Mrs. Jessie Foster of Sapulpa, Okla., Mrs. Rhoda Marion of Howard, Kansas, Mrs. Mamie Draper of Benkelman, Nebr,; Mrs. Ella Boice of Great Falls, Mont., and Miss Lizzie, Wallace and Luther who are at home, are left with the mother to mourn the loss of a loving father. He also leaves two sisters and two brothers who live in Virginia.
Early in life the subject of this sketch was converted and united with the Methodist church. In 1889 with his family he moved to Kansas and has spent the most of this time living near Fall River.
Funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. S.F. Ditto, pastor of the M. E. church of this place, and interment was made in Brown chapel. ----Fall River Star. (Browns Chapel Cemetery) (Submitted by: Kyle M. Condon)
YARBROUGH, HANNAH ELIZABETH (STROUD)
Hannah Elizabeth Stroud was born in Hamblin county, Tennessee, September 1, 1845. She was united in marriage
to T.C. Yarbrough December 25, 1861. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Yarbrough. The husband and three
children, Charles, Cora and Joseph preceded her in death. Surviving are James Yarbrough of Blackwell, Okla., J.T.
Yarbrough of Little River, Kansas, Frank Yarbrough and Mrs. Aaron Moore of Piedmont, and Sam Yarbrough of Wichita.
all of whom were at her bedside when she passed away. She leaves eleven grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren,
and four great great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Yarbrough both united with the Baptist church early in life. Later
Mrs.Yarbrough transferred her membership to the Christian church at Piedmont where she remained a faithful member
until her death, April 12, 1927, at the advanced age of 81 years, 7 months and 11 days. She was a good mother and
a faithful wife. Her last words to her friends were that her way was clear, and that her neighbors could be her
