The funeral for
S.M. "Max" Davis, 80, of Council Grove will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the United Methodist Church at Council Grove. The Rev. Stan Hughes of the church will conduct the service. Emporia Masonic Lodge 12 and an Army detail from Fort Riley will conduct services at the burial, in Bushong Cemetery. The family will meet friends at the church one hour before the funeral.

Mr. Davis died Sunday, July 25, 2004, at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka.

The son of Lewis C. and Florence V. James Davis, he was born June 26, 1924, in Hilltop. He graduated from Bushong High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Winged Arrow from 1944 to 1946.

He married Jeane Millison on May 9, 1945, in Woodland, Calif. She survives.

He was a farmer and rancher in northern Lyon County for 58 years. son, James Scott Davis, raised cattle for 20 years. He was county director for Lyon County of the Kansas Livestock Association.

As a member of the Bushong school board in the mid-1950s, Mr. Davis was instrumental in the consolidation of schools to form Northern Heights High School. He served a second term on the U.S.D. 251 school board when Americus was unified with Northern Heights. He was timer and scorekeeper for the Northern Heights basketball games for many years.

He was a member of American Legion Moreland-Clayton-Edmonds Post, Masonic Lodge 335 and Lulu Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, all at Allen, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Emporia, Rock Creek Watershed and the Farm Service Agency of Lyon County (formerly ASCS).

Mr. Davis was a member of the Council Grove United Methodist Church.

He is also survived by one son, James Scott Davis of Council , who raised cattle with him for 20 years; one daughter, Sally Burri of Williamsburg, Va.; and five grandchildren.

A brother, Lt. Morris P. Davis with the U.S. Army Air Corps, died earlier.

, 97, of Topeka, died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at St. Francis hospital in Topeka.

She will be buried at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bushong Cemetery; the Rev. James Darby of First United Methodist Church in Emporia will officiate.

The daughter of August and Emma Reinke Holle, she was born Sept. 6, 1906, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The family moved to Bushong in 1908.

Miss Holle worked for 46 years as a Reliefograph typist for Capper & Stauffer Communications in Topeka. She retired in 1974.

Her survivors include a niece, Eunice Gunkel of Emporia.

A brother, Elmer F. Holle, and a sister, Norma D. Holle, died earlier

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorials in her name to the Bushong United Methodist Church.

Mr. Marcotte died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at his home. He had not retired and still continued his career as a farmer and rancher.

The son of Albert and Eva Hubet Storey Marcotte, he was born March 24, 1923, in Vermillion, S.D. He married Dorothy Reidel on Feb. 3, 1945, in Emporia. She survives.

Mr. Marcotte is also survived by a son, Virgil Dean Marcotte of Matfield Green, and two sisters, Jeannette Rowland of Admire and Velma Martin of Marion.

A brother, Lewis Marcotte, and a sister, Dora Bremenkamp, died earlier.

Delphia Mary Marsh
, 84, died Friday, March 25, 2005, at the Holiday Resort, where she was a resident.

Mrs. Marsh was a homemaker.

The daughter of Milus and Edith Holloway Holleman, she was born July 24, 1920, at Temple, Texas. She married John Marsh. He survives.

Mrs. Marsh was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is also survived by four sons, Ray Marsh of Allen, James Marsh of Americus, Everett Marsh of Ottawa and Earl Marsh of Bluff City; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A halfbrother, Bill Emmert, died earlier.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Claudia Bakely will conduct the service. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery at Bushong. The family will meet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Charter Funerals-Emporia Chapel.

The family suggests that, instead of flowers, contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home, 501 W. Sixth Ave., Emporia, KS 66801, for a memorial to be designated later.

Mildred Kitties Moreland, 90, of Wichita died Friday, July 9, 2004.

She was to be buried this afternoon in Bushong Cemetery after services in Wichita.

Mrs. Moreland taught in public schools in Wichita for U.S.D. 259, before she retired.

The daughter of Francis Clayton and Anna Newcomb Day Rieff, she was born March 4, 1914, in Allen. She married Paul E. Moreland on May 8, 1938, in Allen. He died Jan. 27, 2003.

Mrs. Moreland is survived by two daughters, Frances Holdsworth of Winchester and Trish Hutchinson of Wichita; a son, Everett H. Moreland of Burlington, Colo.; a sister, Bonnie Fehr of Emporia; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Paul Everett Moreland, 88, will be buried Friday afternoon in Bushong Cemetery. The graveside service is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.

Mr. Moreland, a retired Wichita public-school teacher, died Monday, Jan. 27. 2003. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Southwest Presbyterian Church in Wichita.

He was born Oct. 14, 1914, in Americus to Everett L. and Elsie M. Houk Moreland. He married Mildred K. Reiff on May 8, 1938, in Allen. She survives.

Mr. Moreland is also survived by a son, Everett H. Moreland of Burlington, Colo.; two daughters, Frances Holdsworth of Cottonwood Falls and Patricia Hutchinson of Wichita; two brothers, Gene Moreland of Dallas and Larry Moreland of Charleston, S.C.; and a sister, Doris Peters of Emporia. Six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.

The son of Robert Joe and Pearl Emmell Mounkes, he was born Jan. 20, 1929, at Bushong. He married Betty Sattler on Aug. 12, 1948, at Emporia. She survives.

Mr. Mounkes is also survived by two brothers, Duane D. Mounkes of Allen and Glen Mounkes of Pueblo, Colo.; two grandsons; and two great-grandsons.

A daughter, Ramona Van Gordon, and four brothers, Andy Mounkes, Richard Mounkes, Chester Mounkes and Calvin Mounkes, died earlier.

She was a telephone operator in Bushong and Allen for many years and, later, a meat-trimmer at IBP in Emporia before she retired. She also was a volunteer worker at the Allen Senior Center.

Wanola Elizabeth Frizzell, the daughter of Richard E. and Maggie Loretta Swope Frizzell, was born May 27, 1918, at McFall, Mo. She married Harold "Ike" Pykiet on Sept. 21, 1935, at the Lyon County Courthouse. He died July 7, 1982.

Mrs. Pykiet was a member of the Allen United Methodist Church and Allen Rebekah Lodge 670.

She is survived by two sons, James Pykiet of Douglass and David Pykiet of Omaha, Neb.; a daughter, Phyllis Miller of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Iona Mann of Emporia; six grandsons; six stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 16 stepgreat-grandchildren; and 14 stepgreat-great-grandchildren. A son, Richard Paul Pykiet; two brothers, Olin Frizzell and Frank Frizzell; a sister, Leona Adcock; and a granddaughter, Rebecca Jane Pykiet, died earlier.

Reaka, Donald A., 72, farmer and retired Lyon County highway department employee, died Saturday, April 27, 1996. Service 2 p.m. Tuesday, Roberts- Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
