JOHNSON, JUANITA C. COOLEY

Juanita C. Johnson, a resident of the Holiday Resort and formerly of 1314 Chestnut St., died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at Newman Regional Health. She was 91.

Mrs. Johnson was a bookkeeper for Crawford Refrigeration and the Emporia Public Library before she retired in 1979.

The daughter of Avery and Elsie May McClain Cooley, she was born Dec. 24, 1915, in Smith Center. She married Orlyn W. Johnson on Sept. 2, 1934, in Cottonwood Falls. He survives.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Hoe and Hope Garden Club, Coral Bells Garden Club, Lucky 13 Camping Club and the Just Switchmen’s Wives Club.

She is also survived by two sons, Orlyn Kenneth Johnson and Gary Lynn Johnson, both of Olpe; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Four sisters, Zona Chandler, Eunice Morris, Lucine Crawford and Evelyn Laird, died earlier, as did one brother, Weston Cooley, and a grandson.

Mrs. Johnson was cremated, with no service planned.

JAGGARD, MRS. IRENE

Mrs. Irene Jaggard Dead

Mrs, Irene Jaggard, 1009 Neosho Street, died suddenly at 8 o'clock yesterday morning of heart disease.
Death came as she was quietly sitting in a chair shortly after she had arisen. She had not been sick.

Mrs. Jaggard was 69 years old. Her maiden name was Irene Coulter. She was born at Port Royal, Pa.,
September 8, 1849, and came to Kansas in June 1882. She came with her family to Emporia in August, 1907.
She was married to Thomas Jaggard at Brunfield, Ill., In October 1876. Mr. Jaggard died several years ago.
She is survived by four children, Louis F. Jaggard, a medical missionary in Belgian Congo, Africa; Guy H. Jaggard,
of Kingman and Ralph Jaggard and Miss Louise Jaggard, of Emporia; also by one sister. Miss Clara Coulter,
Washington, Iowa, and one brother Robert Coulter, Fort Morgan, Colo.

Mrs. Jaggard for many years had been a member of the Presbyterian Church, and was a constant attendant of the First Presbyterian Church in Emporia. She was a member of the Woman's Relief Corps, and of the M. I. P. Club.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 .o'clock this afternoon from the home, conducted by Dr. R; B. A. McBrlde. The pall-bearers were Charles Harris, R. B. Edwards, R. H. Pyle, H. P. New; A. B. Hall and James Whitehead, Interment will be made at Howard. Mr. and Mrs. Guy H. Jaggard, of Kingman were present at the funeral. The Woman's Relief Corps took part In the funeral services.

Mrs. Jaggard was an active worker In the various organization with which she was identified and was devoted to her family and friends. Her death came as a great,shock, and to, her sorrowing sons and daughter the sympathy of a wide circle of friends is extended.

JONES, WILLIAM E.

Emporia, Kan., November 22 - William E. Jones, an old resident of this city, committed suicide last evening by shooting himself through the head with a pistol at his home in a room adjoining one in which were his wife and three children. No cause is known for the rash deed except overwork and business anxiety. (Topeka Weekly Capital, November 27, 1890, page 2)
