died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at an Emporia nursing home.
She was born Aug. 14, 1911, in rural Olpe, the daughter of James F. Bolton and Olive Fritts.
She married Don Tomlin Foster on Oct. 11, 1938, in Alma. He died Feb. 28, 1976.
Survivors include a son, Alan D. Foster, Del Rio, Texas; a daughter, Alma Merrifield, Newton; a brother, Orville
Bolton, Wichita; a sister, Mildred DeMott, Emporia; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Charter Funeral Emporia Chapel. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today
at the funeral chapel.

The funeral for Ada Marie
Scharenberg, 86, of
rural Neosho Rapids will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home chapel. Lee Hoskins will
conduct the service. Burial will be in Chicago Mound Cemetery, south of Emporia.
Mrs. Scharenberg died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at Newman Regional Health.
She taught in rural schools in the Hartford and Olpe area and for a year at the Chicago Mound Rural School, south
of Emporia.
The daughter of Francis and Evelyn Ireland Arnett, she was born June 28, 1918, in Arapaho, Colo. When she was 3
years old, the family moved to the Twin Mound community on Eagle Creek, east of Olpe. She attended Kansas State
Teachers College in Emporia for two years to obtain her teaching certificate.
She married Ernest Albert Scharenberg on April 24, 1943, in Emporia and they moved to his farm, where she lived
the rest of her life. He died Dec. 12, 1997.
Mrs. Scharenberg was a charter member of the CSC extension home unit and a 4-H leader with the Sunnyside 4-H Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Kurzen and Elizabeth Nuessen, both of Emporia; a sister, Ruth Vohs of Lafayette,
Colo.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Three brothers, Leonard F. Arnett, William H. Arnett and Guy H. Arnett, and an infant grandson died earlier.

Charles Dean Turner Jr.,
a foreman at Bunge North America in Emporia, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005, at Stormont-Vail hospital in Topeka.
Mr. Turner, who lived in rural Hartford, was 43. He had been employed a Bunge since July 26, 1993.
The funeral is planned for 2 p.m. Monday at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. The Rev. Leonard Wagner of the Church
of God of Prophecy will officiate. Burial will be in the Chicago Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8
p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Charles Dean Turner Jr. was born Jan. 25, 1962, in Emporia, the son of Charles Dean and Judy Kay Walker. He married
Julie Potter in 1982 in Emporia.
Mr. Turner is survived by two sons, Scott Turner of Emporia and Josh Turner of New York, and a stepdaughter, Lacey
Kohlman of Emporia. His father lives in Hartford, as does his sister, Brenda Gordon; his mother and her husband,
Loyal Duffy, live in Fort Scott. He is also survived by his companion, Charlotte Harder of the home, and her children,
Thomas Harder and Jamie Harder, both of Emporia.

Mrs. Miller was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She also was a member of the Twin Mound Ladies Aide, CSC

She is also survived by two daughters, Amy L. Miller of Hartford and Theresa M. McFarland of Emporia; two sisters,
Virginia L. Balbierz of Wichita and Mary L. Brockman of Manhattan; a brother, Roy H. Beat of Long Beach, Calif.;
and a grandson.

Hettie Marie Myers,
82, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at Medicalodge in Eureka. She was the mother of Kathy Ray of Emporia.
The daughter of Alfred and Hettie Jane Teasley, she was born July 30, 1921, in Branch, Ark. She grew up in Arkansas
and Oklahoma before moving to Stockton, Calif., in the late 1940s. She married Raymond S. Myers on Aug. 8, 1953,
in Stockton, Calif. She had lived in Eureka since 1990.
Mrs. Myers is survived by her husband; another daughter, Carol Collins of Jackson, Tenn.; three sons, Raymond "Gene"
Myers, also of Jackson, Michael Myers of Angels Camp, Calif., and Jonathan Myers of Stockton; 11 grandchildren,
seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Three brothers, a sister and one grandson, David Ray, died earlier.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Eureka. Gene Smerchek will
officiate. A private burial is planned.

Kenneth Clinton Hodges,
89, of Olpe, a retired car inspector for the Santa Fe Railroad, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at the Madison Manor
in Madison.
Kenneth Clinton Hodges, the son of Walter and Maggie Phillips Hodges, was born Aug. 6, 1914, in Marion County.
He married Ethel Windle on June 27, 1940, in Emporia. She survives.
Mr. Hodges worked for the Santa Fe for 26 years before he retired 22 years ago.
Mr. Hodges was a member of the United Methodist Church in Olpe.
He is also survived by two daughters, Janet Cummings of Emporia and Doris Hund of Leavenworth; a son, Richard Hodges
of Claremore, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A grandson, Daniel Baker, died earlier.
The funeral, conducted by the Rev. Lucille Barb of the Olpe United Methodist Church, was today in the Roberts-Blue-Barnett
Funeral Home. Burial was in Chicago Mound Cemetery.

of Emporia died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at Newman Regional Health. He was 48.
Mr. Ballard worked for the Emporia waste water treatment plant as a licensed Class 4 Technician before he retired
because of health concerns.
The son of Garland Loraine and Margaret Louise Blevins Ballard, he was born Jan. 26, 1957, at Hillsboro. He married
Nancy Young on Jan. 26, 1980, at Tyler, Texas. They were divorced.
Mr. Ballard was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2587.
He is survived by two sons, Gary Ballard and Scott Ballard, both of Tyler, Texas; his mother, Margaret Cook of
Emporia; a brother, William L. Ballard of Emporia; and two sisters, Loraine Stang of Bronson and Margaret Ballard
of Lawrence.
His father; stepfather, C.E. Cook; one brother; and grandparents died earlier.
The memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Eagles Aerie 2587 at Ninth Avenue and Whittier Street. Mr. Ballard
was cremated.

Thelma Irene Foster, the daughter of Albert Daniel and Ettie J. McClelland Foster, was born July 24, 1908, in Lyon
County. She married Hurshal A. Collinge on Dec. 31, 1930, in Lawrence. He died July 25, 1979, in Topeka.
Mrs. Collinge was a member of the Countryside United Methodist Church and the Sarah Circle of the church.
She is survived by a daughter, Thelma Schroeder of Topeka, and a granddaughter.
Three brothers, Frank Foster, Albert Foster and John Foster, and a granddaughter, Sandra Schroeder, died earlier.

The funeral for Jack
Lee Cook, 68, of Emporia
will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. Burial, with military services conducted
by the Fort Riley Honor Guard, will be in Chicago Mound Cemetery.
Mr. Cook died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at Newman Regional Health.
He was born July 12, 1935, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Fred and Ida Cook Birchmeier. As a child, he lived in
Neosho Rapids, Emporia and Los Angeles. After graduating from high school in Los Angeles in 1952, he enlisted in
the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego, assigned to the USS Sea Devil/USS Tang.
He worked on the Alaska pipeline and was a maintenance technician for the University of Alaska after his honorable
discharge from military service. He worked on the construction of Interstate 35 in Kansas and then was a crossing-signal
technician for Santa Fe Railroad before he retired.
Mr. Cook is survived by five sons, David J. Cook of Neosho Rapids, Richard J. Wall of Lebo, John L. Cook of Topeka,
Daniel W. Wall of Plano, Texas, Timothy P. Cook of Richmond, Mo.; four daughters, Deborah J. James of Wichita,
Cathy Heath of Greensburg and Kendra Cook and Carrie Cook, both of Missouri; his mother, who lives in Emporia;
one sister, Jean Young of Claremore, Okla.; one brother, John Birchmeier of Americus; 12 grandchildren; several
stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Cynthia "Cindy" Jean Countryman of Emporia died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at the University of Kansas Hospital.
She had acute lymphoblast leukemia. She was 48.
The daughter of Melvin and Sue Ann Suther, she was born July 22, 1958, at Frankfort. She married James Countryman
on May 27, 1978, at Emporia. He survives.
Mrs. Countryman was an active member of the Emporia Congregaton of Jehovah's Witnesses for 30 years.
She is also survived by her children, Abbie Countryman and John Countryman, both of Emporia; and her stepchildren,
Anita Countryman Brunner, Patty Countryman Fancher and Toby Countryman, all of Emporia, and Michael Countryman
of Eureka; her father and stepmother, Peg Suther of Frankfort, who helped rear her; three brothers, Jerry Suther

EMPORIA --- Tammie Lee Criqui, 30, Emporia, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, in Kinsley.
Ms. Criqui had worked as a cashier and waitress.
She was born April 15, 1971, in Stilwell, Okla., the daughter of Larry Gene and Pam Kelly Chapman-Diehl.
Ms. Criqui was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Emporia.
Survivors include her mother, Pam Diehl, Emporia; her father, Larry G. Chapman, Kansas City, Kan.; three sons,
Shawn Puckett, Emporia, and Anthony Criqui and Corey Criqui, both of Lebo; two daughters, Tabatha Criqui and Victoria
Criqui, both of Emporia; two brothers, Larry M. Chapman and Terry Joe Chapman, both of Emporia; a sister, Kimberlie
Steele, Peabody; and two stepsisters, Tress, in Oskaloosa, and Dee, in Lawrence.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Chicago Mound Cemetery southeast of Emporia.

GREAT BEND - Robert Leon Curtis, 79, died Sept. 27, 2006, at his home, Great Bend.
He was born April 1, 1927, in Emporia, the son of Ira and Emma Hubley Curtis. A Great Bend resident since 1951,
coming from Emporia, he was an electronic repairman and owner of A-1 Radio and CB Service.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He belonged to First Christian Church, Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post No. 4111, American Legion Argonne Post No. 180, Fraternal Order of Eagles, No. 646, all in Great
Bend.
On Dec. 24, 1948, he married Hazel I. Fowler in Emporia. She survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Robert Ira, Pawnee Rock, David Christopher Lee, Truth or Consequences, N.M.,
Leon Henry, Austin, Texas, and Timothy Gayle, Greenwood, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Private family inurnment will be in Chicago Mound Cemetery, Emporia, at a later date. There will be no visitation,
as cremation has taken place.

southeast of Emporia.
Mr. Dailey died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, in the emergency room at Newman Regional Health.
The son of Homer A. and Maxine Ida Torrens Dailey, he was born Feb. 15, 1941, at Emporia. He married Davone R.
"Davee" Loving on Oct. 31, 1970, at Las Vegas, Nev. She survives.
Mr. Dailey was a transport driver for Interstate Brands-Dolly Madison Cake Co. before he retired. He previously
worked for Duane Birk Trucking and the Emporia Police Department.
He was a member of Emporia Masonic Lodge 12.
He is also survived by two daughters, Lori Tabares of Emporia and Melissa Ellsworth of Lisbon Falls, Maine; two
brothers, Tom Dailey of Emporia and Michael J. Dailey of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Carolyn Blackwell of Seattle,
Wash., and Marilyn Dailey of Winter Haven, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Lelia Adeline Diltz, 89, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at her home,
2 S. State St.
The daughter of Thomas Erins and Clara Mae Cripe Goff, she was born Aug. 30, 1915, in McPherson. She married Joseph
L. Diltz on June 2, 1935, in Chase. He died April 10, 2001.
Mrs. Diltz, a homemaker, was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Altar Society.
She is survived by two sons, LaMar Diltz of Emporia and Gerry Diltz of Laramie, Wyo.; two foster daughters, Ellen
John of St. Joseph, Mo., and Cecilia Worthington of Garland, Texas; one sister, Clara Unruh, whose address is unavailable;
nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Four brothers died earlier.
Mrs. Diltz has been cremated. The burial, in Chicago Mound Cemetery, will be a family service at a later date.

E. Fry died Tuesday,
Sept. 17, 2002, at his home in Topeka. He was 67.
He was born Feb. 9, 1935, in Emporia, the son of George R. and Opal C. Waller Fry. He grew up in Emporia and worked
at Opal's Market, A&P and Emporia Floral before joining the Army in 1956.
After his discharge from the Army in 1959, he returned to Emporia and worked for Merchant's Supply, then as a truck
driver for New Process Laundry. He worked for a time as a campus patrolman at Kansas State University and as a
deputy for the Riley County Sheriff's Office.
He returned to Emporia and worked in Emporia State University's physical plant and at the William Lindsay White
Auditorium. He later lived in Winchester and in Topeka, where he retired in February 2000 from his job as a supervisor
at the physical plant.
He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Allen, whom he married on Sept. 2, 1961, at the First Christian
Church in Emporia.
Other survivors are two sons, Cash Fry and Jeffrey Fry, and a daughter, Sheryl Fry Allen, all of Topeka; a sister,
Margaret Fry Watkins of Overland Park; and two grandchildren.
He was a member of the Northland Christian Church, where the funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will
be at 1 p.m. Friday at Chicago Mound Cemetery, southeast of Emporia.
Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Davidson Funeral Home, where the family will meet friends
from 6 to 7 p.m.
Contributions in his memory to the American Cancer Society can be sent in are of the funeral home, 1035 N. Kansas
Ave., Topeka, KS 66608.

Anthony "Tony" Germann Jr.,
65, of Port Richey, Fla., will be buried at 3 p.m. Monday after a service at Chicago Mound Cemetery, southeast
of Emporia. The Rev. Kenneth Hennessey of Flint Hills Baptist Church in Osage City will officiate.
Mr. Germann died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at a hospital in Hudson, Fla.
He was born Sept. 18, 1937, in Emporia, the son of George Anthony and Ada Irene Burton Germann. He served in the
U.S. Army. He moved from Emporia to Florida in 1949.
He was the owner of ABS Office Equipment of Port Richey and had formerly worked for Apollo Business Machines in
St. Petersburg, Fla. His memberships included the Jokers Club of St. Petersburg and the Republican Party.
He is survived by a son, Michael Anthony Germann of Port Richey; a sister, Nina Waller of Osage City; a brother,
Fenton Harold Germann of St. Petersburg; and a granddaughter.
Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home has the arrangements.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. --- Irene Germann, 95, St. Petersburg, died Nov. 16, 2001, at a St. Petersburg nursing home.
Mrs. Germann owned and operated a nursing home in St. Petersburg for many years before she retired at the age of
82.
She was born June 25, 1906, the daughter of Ferris and Vesta Burton. She was reared on a ranch near Chicago Mound,
Kan. She attended high school in Emporia, Kan., and she studied nursing at Newman Memorial Hospital in Emporia.
She married George Anthony Germann on May 30, 1925, in Burlington, Kan. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Germann
also was preceded in death by two daughters, Sharon Anne and Kathy Hunt.
Survivors include two sons, Tony Germann and Fenton Germann, both of St. Petersburg; a daughter, Neta F. Waller,
Osage City, Kan.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be scheduled by Flint Hills Baptist Church in Osage City, Kan.
Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes and Crematory Services in St. Petersburg was in charge of Florida arrangements.
Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia is in charge of Kansas arrangements.

William Lee Gosser, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, at his home, 619
Rural St. He was 71.
Mr. Gosser, a carpenter, owned and operated Gosser Construction in Emporia for 50 years before he retired in 2005.
The son of James L. and Viola M. White Gosser, he was born Feb. 17, 1936, at Plymouth. He married Edith Diane Dailey
on Jan. 6, 1970, at Emporia. She survives.
Mr. Gosser was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church.
He is also survived by three sons, Brian L. Gosser and William Gosser Jr., both of Emporia, and Phillip E. Gosser
of Topeka; five sisters; and six grandchilden. Two brothers and one sister died earlier.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. The Rev. James Scott of the
Cornerstone Baptist Church will conduct the service. Burial will be in Chicago Mound Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to Hand-in-Hand Hospice may be sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia,
KS 66801.
