Word has been received of the death of Silas F. Barber of Cincinnati, Ohio. He is a former resident of Cherryvale.
for many years Barber worked as a rural mail carrier out of the Cheryvale Post Office. He died Wednesday, July

Thelma
E. Braschler
CHERRYVALE - Thelma E. Braschler, 93. of Cherryvale, died Tuesday at Cherryale Care Center. Services will be Thursday
at 2 p.m. at Potts Chapel of Cherryvale with Scott and Vi Rose, of the Cherryvale Church of the Nazarene officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 p.m. today. Mrs. Braschler was
born March 5, 1914 in Cherryvale to William I., and Lillie (Sinclair) Brown. She graduated from Cherryvale High
School in 1931. On March 5, 1942 in St. Charles Mo., she married Ray Braschler, and he died in 1972, Mrs. Braschler
operated Adkins Oil co., in Cherryvale with her husband for 32 years, retiring in 1978. Survivors include two sisters,
Maxine Welch and Dorothy Lawing, both of Wichita. (Submitted by Freda Webb)
HAZEL BUTTS

Hazel J. Butts, 80, of Cherryvale died this morning at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She was a retired
school teacher who had farmed with her husband. She was born July 12, 1899, in rural Cherryvale to Lewis and Nola
(Cloninger) Braschler. She lived her entire life in the Cherryvale area. She was a member of the Cherryvale Nazarene
Church. On April 15, 1922, she married Joel Butts at Independence. He died in 1967. Survivors include a son, Jerry
Butts of Solana Beach, Calif., a daughter Wanda Polman of Olathe; a brother Albert Braschler of 913 W. Fifth St.,
two sisters, Vesta Helphinstine of 1806 Walnuts St. and Bessie Jones of Coffeyville, a grandchild, and two step
grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Cherryvale Nazarene Church under the direction of the
Wayne Darling Funeral Home in Cherryvale. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale. Friends may call

PARSONS - Esther R. Baldwin, 72, of Parsons, formerly of Cherryvale, died at 2:30 a.m. Sunday at the Elmhaven West
Nursing Home in Parsons, She had been in failing health. Services wilol be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Dennis United
Methodist church with the Revs. Elbert Nelson and Karen Jeffcoat officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery
in Cherryvale. The family will receive friends at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons From 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Thursday. Memorials are suggested to the Dennis
United Methodist Church or the Parsons Alzheimer's
Support Group. Mrs. Baldwin was born on March 28, 1925, in Cherryvale to Claude B. and Stella M. (Randolph) Redburn
. In 1938, the family moved from Cherryvale to McCune, where she graduated from McCune High School. She also attended
Pittsburg State University. She served as office manager for 13 years at the former Fred Ronald Manufacturing Co.
Later, she was employed in the office at Glass Tec Co., J and P Products and Labette County Medical Center. She
also worked part-time as a clerk at the Townsman Motel. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. On Aug
3, 1944, she married Beuford E. Bldwin in Dennis. He died in 1975. Survivors include a son. Larry Baldwin, El Paso,
Texas, a daughter Connie Britton, Wrightsville, PA.; a sister Ruth Mathis, Parsons; seven grandchildren and eight

William Holt Died Yesterday
Father of Lee Holt, Mrs. Frank and Mrs. Clark
Had Been Ill with Asthma and Stomach Trouble for
Years - Interment this Afternoon
William Holt, died yesterday morning at his home
in Cherryvale. Mr. Holt was the father of Lee Holt of Sunflower Pharmacy, Mrs. Will Frank and Mrs. Hal Clark, wife
of County Attorney Clark, of this city. He had been ill with asthma and stomach trouble the past twelve years,
and for the past three months his death has been expected daily.
Besides his several children in this city, Mr.
Holt is survived by his wife and two other daughters, Mrs. Fred Cramer of Cherryvale and Mrs. Hitchcock of Kansas
City. His brother, Eph Holt has been in Cherryvale for the past three months.
Mr. Holt was born in 1840 in Pennsyvlania and has
lived in Cherryvale for the past twenty years. The funeral was held this afternoon at the family home and the services
were in charge of Dr. S. S. Murphy, of the Methodist Church. (The Independence Daily Reporter, Friday, January

Mrs. W. T. Blackmore, 55, died early this morning
at her home in rural Elk City following an illness of two weeks. Intestinal flu was given as the cause of death.
Besides the husband, a daughter, Mrs. Fred Welser
of Neodesha, a son, Paul of the home address, her mother, Mrs. Isaac James of Elk City, three sisters, Mrs. J.
R. Stadler, of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Elmer Bobbitt of Elk City and Mrs. Chanucey Nicholson of Neodesha and
five brothers, John James of Wichita, Milton James of McPherson, W. A. and Carl James of Elk City and L. A. James
of Independence, survive. Funeral arrangements were incomplete at press time this afternoon. (The Independence

Mrs. Lucinda Jeanette Sharp passed away yesterday

Mrs. Anna Eliza Furnish, wife of John A. Furnish,
died at her home in Coffeyville of heart trouble. She had been in poor health for some weeks. Mrs. Furnish has
been a resident of Coffeyville for the last eight years. She was 66 years of age and was born in Indiana. She was
united in marriage to Mr. Furnish forthy-three years ago and leaves five children. (The Independence Daily Report,

Mrs. Sarah J. Renfro, aged 75 years, 11 months
and 25 days, wife of S.H. Renfro, is dead at her home on West Mill street, in Neodesha. She had been sick about
two months but the immediate cause of her death was paralysis. She was born in Armstrong county, Pennsylvania,
April 29, 1835. She came to Kansas twenty-five years ago. She had been married three times and is survived by four

FELTNER, SARAH C.
Mrs. Sarah C. Feltner, aged 64 years, died yesterday
morning at 3:30 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. L. Hare on South Second street, Neodesha. She had
been in poor health about all winter but was seriously ill only two weeks.
Deceased was a native of Kentucky, came to Kansas

Edna May Fuqua, the 12-year-old daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. W.T. Fuqua, of Caney, has died of paralysis. Last April the little girl fell down the steps of one of
the school buildings and since then she had suffered from partial paralysis. She was sitting in a chair when the

Died Suddenly Yesterday Morning.
Mrs. Elizabeth Myers Had Heart Failure Yesterday.
Mrs. Elizabeth Myers who has been making her home with her son, W.A. Myers, dropped dead yesterday morning from
heart trouble. Her death came as a shock to her family, who have only lived here five weeks. She had made many
friends during her short stay, and all extend sympathy in the sad bereavement. Mrs. Myers was 77 years old last
September. The funeral will be held at the family residence, 1105 North Ninth Street tomorrow.
The son, W.A. Myers is agent for the Rowley Manufacturing company and travels through the country. (The Independence

Died, January 26, of a severe hemmorrhage of the
lungs, Mrs. Emma Coleman Hutchinson , daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Coleman, of Prairie district, number 57. We
learn that Mrs. Hutchinson had been sick but a few hours and that her mother who lives seven miles form her only
reached her bedside a few hours before death claimed her. A husband and three children survive to mourn the loss

McKINLAY, PETER
Peter McKinlay Died Yesterday.
Was An Old Residenter In Independence Since 1871.
Was Not Even Sick in Bed, But a Bad Cold Was Too Much for Him and He Succumbed.
Peter McKinlay, one of Independence's oldest citizens died yesterday at his home on North Twelfth street. Mr. McKinlay
had a severe cold and owning to his advanced age, it proved too much for hsi strength. He was not even sick in
bed and had only been feeling badley a couple of days.
Deceased was born in Glasgow, Scotland, June 2,
1824, and came to Independence in 1871. He has since lived here. Surviving him are his wife and four children.
The children are Miss Jean McKinlay, of Denver, Colo., Peter McKinlay, Jr., of Garfield, Ark., Mrs. Margaret McKay,
of Independence, and Mrs. Agnes Parks, of Kansas City. They are all here for the funeral.
The funeral will be held from the family residence,

Sad Death Of Mrs. Pease.
Died of Blood Poisoning Early This Morning.
Had Been Ill About Two Weeks, Left a Baby Two Weeks Old and a Husband--Daughter of J.W. Miller.
Sadness entered the home of W.R. Pease this morning and took away the wife and mother. Mrs. Pease had been ill
with blood poisoning for the past two week and she left a baby two weeks old. Mr. Pease has the sympathy of a wide
circle of friends.
Deceased was aged about 24 years and had lived
in Independence and vicinity all her life. She was a daughter of former clerk of the district court, J.W. Miller.
She graduated from the Montgomery County High School several years ago and was married about four years ago to
Mr. Pease who is a contractor. They have lived on South Thirteenth street since that time.
Besides her husband and little baby, Mrs. Pease
is survived by her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Miller, a sister, Mrs. Clyde Knock, and a brother, Claude
Miller.
The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon from
the family residence, 211 South Thirteenth street, at 1 o'clock. The Rev. J.R. Beard will conduct the services.

Dead In Bed This Morning.
Adolph Wheeler Aged 65, Died Suddenly At Table Mound.
Had Not Been Feeling Well--Body Brought to This City This Noon--Taken to Michigan for Burial.
Adolph Wheeler, a well known resident of Le Hunt, was found dead in bed at that place this forenoon. The body was
brought here at noon and prepared for burial. It will probably be taken to Adrian, Michigan, the former home of
the deceased for burial.
Adolph Wheeler came here about two years ago and
became manager of the Alamo Inn. He was a widower. For some days past he had been complaining of indigestion. Yesterday
he suffered considerably, but continued around the hotel. Last evening he played cards with friends until about
11 o'clock when he retired. He was in the habit of sleeping lat in the morning and nothing was thought of his failure
to appear this morning. About 10 o'clock some alarm was felt and a servant went to his room and found him dead.
It is believed death was caused by a complication of heart trouble and indigestion.
Deceased was about 65 years of age and was large
of stature. He was an uncle of W.W. Wheeler who was formerly superintendent of the Table Mound cement plant but

D. N. Young, 79, a former resident and merchant
of Elk City, as well as Fall River and New Albany, having left Kansas 23 years ago, died at his home in Gildford,

BOYD, MARY JANE
Mary Jane Boyd Dies Of Injury.
Funeral Thursday At Pleasant Dale Church.
Mary Jane Boyd, 86, a resident of rural route 5, Cherryvale, passed away at 6:40 this morning at the local hospital
after having been there for the past five weeks, suffering from a broken hip, which she received when she fell
at the home of her son, Clinton, August 24.
Mrs. Boyd was born in Nashville, Tenn., June 24,
1848, where she lived unitl 1867, when her parents and family moved to Missouri. She was married to Richard Chadwick
Wages in Boyton, Mo., September 15, 1872. Mr. Wages died several years later and she was married to James Boyd,
in 1898. Surviving are two sons, Clinton Wages of Cherryvale rural route and George Wages of Buffalo, Wyo. Three
other children preceded their mother in death.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon
at 2:30 at the Pleasant Dale church, three miles northwest of Cherryvale. Burial will be in Pleasant Dale cemetery

Roy A. Beeman 79, of Independence died Thursday
at Mercy Hospital. Services will be Monday at 10 a.m at Webb & Rodrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Stovall,
pastor of the First Christian Church, officiating. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Dover Cemetery
in Dover, Oklahoma with military rites. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church and they may be left
with the Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and from noon until
8 p.m. Sunday, with the family receiving friends from noon until 1 p.m.
Honorary casketbeareers will be Lloyd Sullivan,
Harvey Lewis Sr., Art Rutledge, Neal Loether, James Winkler, Charles Blex, Lee Cain and Howard Thompson. Mr. Beeson
was born Aug 8, 1922, in Altoona to Nathan and Nellie (Beck) Beeman. He graduated from Dover, Okla high school
and attended Labette County Community College in Parsons. He married Betty Jean McClelland in 1939 and she died
in 1961. Mr. Beeman served in the U.S. Army during World War ll as a staff sergeant with Company A, 29th Division,
115th Infantry. He fought at Omaha Beach during the invasion of Normandy. Mr. Beeman was an electrical engineer
with regional sales manager with M-E-C in Neodesha, retiring in 1985. In 1962 he married Marilyn Cowman in Henryetta,
Okla and she survives. Mr. Beeman was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as an elder, trustee,
deacon and property chairman, and a member of the Future Planners Sunday School Class. He was a life member of
athe V.F.W. and American Legion. Other survivors include two sons, Gary Beeman, Parsons, and Randy Beeman, Olathe,
two daughters, Rojean Jones, Enid, Okla, and Michelle Woodruff, Edmond, Okla. 11 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

WILLIAM "BILL"
Longtime Cherryvale resident and funeral director William M. "Bill" Burns, 76, died unexpectedly Monday
evening at Mercy Hospital in Independence where he had been admitted a short time earlier. Memorial services will
be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Darling and Burns Chapel with the Rev. Lex Fox of the First Baptist Church officiating.
Cremation has taken place. The family has suggested memorial remembrances to the Cherryvale Public Library. Memorials
can be received at the Darling and Burns Chapel. William McKendric Burns was born, July 3, 1917, in Cherryvale,
the son of Robert W. Burns and Mabel Edna (Nicodemus) Burns. He attended Cherryvale schools. Burns attended the
Kansas City College of Mortuary Science. Upon graduation, he returned to Cherryvale and became associated with
the family funeral home - the Burns Funeral Home. Following the merger of the funeral homes in Cherryvale, burns
continued with the operation of the Darling and Burns Chapel of cherryvale and was employed with it at the time
of his death. During World War II, Burns served with the U.S. Army in China, Burma and India. On August 9, 1954,
Burns married Marian Pickett McIntyre at Delaware, Okla. She survives at the home. He also is survived by two sons,
William R. Burns of Cherryvale and Gerald F. Burns of Kansas City, MO. (Submitted by Freda Webb)
WILSON, JAMES WARD
James Ward Wilson, M.D., 80, of Coffeyville, died
Sunday (May 28, 2006) at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
He was born April 5, 1926 at Ripley, Oklahoma to
Hubert Cecil and Edna Lenore (Eaton) Wilson. He grew up near Ripley, OK, graduating from Ripley High School in
1944. Following high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp. His duty stations included, Ft. Myers, FL, Pejote,
TX, Great Bend, KS and Salina, KS, serving as a tail gunner on a B-29. He received the Expert Rifleman’s Badge,
Good Conduct medal and other medals being discharged as a Sergeant. He remained in the inactive reserve until 1949.
On April 29, 1949 he married Mary E. Duck at Chandler,
Oklahoma.
Following his discharge he attended Oklahoma A
& M (now Oklahoma State University) in Stillwater, OK with studies in history and political science graduating
in 1950. Following graduation he returned to active duty when the 45th Infantry Division was activated during the
Korean Conflict. He attended Infantry Officer’s School at Fort Benning, Georgia, and became a Second Lieutenant.
He served with the 45th in Hokido, Japan (U.S. Army of Occupation) and in Korea he commanded an Infantry Company
on the front lines. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Silver Star and Purple Heart among other medals. He returned
to the States to complete his active duty service at Ft. Polk, LA.
In 1954, he began his studies at the Oklahoma School
of Medicine in Oklahoma City receiving his Doctor of Medicine degree 1958. He received the Onis Hazel Award for
the outstanding doctor-patient relationship. He continued with one year rotating internship and one year surgery
residency. He did family practice in Atoka, OK and later in Oklahoma City, OK. During this time, Dr. Wilson commanded
the 45th Medical Battalion in Oklahoma City.
Doctor Wilson returned to the Oklahoma School of
Medicine to become a pathologist, doing two years of study at Oklahoma City University and completing the other
two years at the University of Kansas Medical School in
Kansas City, KS. He is a Board certified pathologist and served as an assistant professor of pathology at the University
of Kansas Medical Center and the University of Missouri at Kansas City, MO.
Dr. Wilson was recruited to Coffeyville in 1971
to work as the first full time hospital pathologist and established a school for Laboratory technicians at Coffeyville
Community College. He recruited physicians for Coffeyville and Independence, and served for many years as Montgomery
County Coroner.
In 1977 he became State Director of Health in Topeka
and then reentered active military duty in 1979, serving at Ft. Riley, KS (Hospital Commander), the Pentagon in
Washington, D.C. (Director of all medical training for the National Guard Physicians nation wide), Ft. Sill, OK
(Staff), and Ft. McPherson (Chief of Health Clinics). He retired in 1986 after 42 years of military service and
returned to Coffeyville where he did private practice
before retiring after 30 years of medical service.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in
Coffeyville, and served on many Boards including the American Red Cross and Salvation Army.
Dr. Wilson enjoyed flying his private plane, tutoring
students of all ages, gardening, horticulture, and was an avid reader.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary of
the home; five sons, Robert (Holly) of Huntsville, AL, David (Dr. Linda) of Portland, OR, Charles of Seattle, William
and friend Roberta of Safford, AZ, and George (Deanda)
Phoenix, AZ; one brother Richmond (Michelle) of Stillwater, OK; 10 grandchildren (two are currently serving on
active duty); and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert Laddie
Wilson and Howard Edwin Wilson.
A memorial service is being planned for late June
and will be announced by the David W. Barnes Funeral Home at a later date. Ashes will be intered at a later date
in Arlington National Cemetery, Alexandria, VA.
Friends may sign the register book at the David
W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family requests memorials to the Dr. James
W. Wilson Medical Scholarship Fund care of Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Foundation or the charity of the
Donor’s Choice.

SWIGER, HAROLD D.
Harold D. Swiger, 72, of Coffeyville passed away
Thursday night (May 25, 2006) at St. John’s Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
He was born November 26, 1933 at Coffeyville to John D. and Fern R. (Moore)
Swiger. He grew up in Coffeyville where he attended school graduating from
Field Kindley High School in 1951.
Following high school Harold served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years. After being discharged from the Air Force
he returned to Coffeyville and was employed at Funk Manufacturing Co.
On June 14, 1981 he married Louise Buzard at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they continued making their
home in Coffeyville. Harold retired from Funk Mfg. Co. in 1991.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville, serving as a Deacon and Trustee; he was also a member

Orpha M. McCausland, 89, former longtime Coffeyville
resident passed away Saturday (June 17, 2006) in Bartonville, Texas.
She was born February 18, 1917, at Thayer, KS to George and Rosa (Decker) Powers. She grew up on the family farm
near Thayer where she attended school graduating from Thayer High School.
On April 23, 1938 she married Chester McCausland at Columbus, KS. Following their marriage they made their home
in Cherryvale, KS before moving to Coffeyville in 1942 where her husband was employed at the Co-op Refinery and
she was a homemaker. Mr. McCausland preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1989. Mrs. McCausland continued making her
home in Coffeyville until moving to Bartonville, TX in 2004 to be closer to her daughter.
Mrs. McCausland was a member of the First Christian Church in Coffeyville, was a Past President of the Longfellow
School PTA, former Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, and Good Sam’s Camping Group.
Survivors include one son, Wayne McCausland of Springfield, MO; one daughter Brenda Allen and her husband Tom of
Bartonville, TX; one brother, John Powers of Tulsa, OK; four grandchildren, Tim Allen of Sacramento, CA, Veronica
(Allen) Field of Elk Ridge, UT, Stephanie (McCausland) Cole of Hernando, MS, and Stacy (McCausland) Cordova of
Olive Branch, MS; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Rhonda Kay Allen;
four brothers, and one sister.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday (June 22, 2006) in the First Christian Church in Coffeyville, with Rev.
Robert E. Brown of Parsons, KS officiating. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday in the Thayer
Cemetery at Thayer, KS.

CHARLES H.
Charles H. Lindesmith, 87, of rural Independence,
passed away Saturday morning (June 10, 2006) at his home northeast of Tyro.
He was born February 24, 1919 at Dora, Missouri to J.H. and Emma (Doty) Lindesmith. When he was 3 year old the
family moved to the Lenepah and Delaware, Oklahoma area where he grew up and attended school.
In 1942 he entered the U.S. Army serving during WWII in the 596th Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion in Archipelago,
New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Luzon. He received an honorable discharge on November 30, 1945.
On February 16, 1946 he married Wanda Austin at Bentonville, Arkansas. Following their marriage they made their
home in the Coffeyville area where Mr. Lindesmith was employed at the Ludiwici-Celedon Brick Co., Co-op Refinery,
Missouri Pacific Railroad and did construction work. In 1955 they moved to their farm northeast of Tyro where he
farmed until retiring in 1984.
He was a member of the Tyro Christian Church and the Joy group at his church.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda of the home; three daughters, Nancy Allen and her husband Blake of rural Independence,
KS, Dana Vermeire and her husband Tom of Dewey, OK, and Diane Mills and her husband Bill of Eureka, KS; one sister,
Lena Ransbottom of Ponca City, OK; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday (June 13, 2006) in the Tyro Christian Church with David Bycroft officiating.
Burial will be in Fawn Creek Cemetery northeast of Tyro. Casket Bearers will be Mr. Lindesmith’s grandsons, Aaron
Richey, Andy Allen, Bryan Allen, Brandon Richey, Willy Mills and Mark Allen. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Harold

Sheri Ellen Robbins, 53, of Jordan, Minnesota,
formerly of Dearing, passed away Thursday (June 1, 2006) at her home in Jordan.
She was born December 24, 1952, at Wichita, KS to William C. and Margeret (Smith) Smith. She grew up in Wichita
where she attended school, graduating from Wichita South High School.
She married Rick Vannoster in 1972, they were later divorced.
On November 3, 1978, she married Joseph Robbins at Dearing. Following their marriage they lived in Woodward, OK,
and Dearing. While living in Dearing she was employed at Medicalodge and Aptus both in Coffeyville. In 1994 they
moved to Jordan, MN. She was an administrative assistant at Carghill.
She was a member of the Dearing Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph of the home in Jordan; two sons, Joseph Robbins, and Robert Robbins both
of Dearing; three daughters, Annette Robbins of Thornton, CO, Lisa Elder, and Crystal Link both of Jordan, MN;
her mother Margeret Smith of Dearing; two brothers, Chester Smith of Winfield, and Larry Smith of Coffeyville;
one sister, Linda Mersberg of Dearing; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and one
brother, Richard Smith.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday (June 8, 2006) at the Dearing Christian Church in Dearing, with Reverend
Jamie Regis officiating. Burial will be in Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville.

TONKAWA - Charles E. "Ed" Cook, Tonkawa resident, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 10, 2004 at Via Christi
Oklahoma Regional Medical Center in Ponca city. He was 86.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov 13 at First Baptist Church, 212 N. Main, in Tonkawa with the Rev. Mark
Serviss officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Tonkawa under the direction of Dugger Funeral
Home of Tonkawa.
Charles E. "Ed" Cook was born July 4, 1918 in Cherryvale, Kansas, athe son of Charles L. and Bertha M.
Hackler Cook. He grew up and attended school in Cherryvale, Kansas, before joining the Army. He married Wilda Rambow
on October 25, 1945, in Cherryvale, Kan. They made their home in Hays, Kansas for 50 years before moving to Tonkawa
in 1998.
He was employed by Service Pipeline Company from 1946 until 1962 and the Pepsi Cola company in the 1960s. He was
a custodian at Fort Hays State University in Kansas during the 1970s until his retirement in 1983. During the early
1960s he became the custodian of the First Baptist church in Hays, Kansas and continueed in that service until
athe mid-1990s. He also served as a deacon for the church for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Wilda Cook; three sons, Kenneth J. cook of Kansas City, Kan. Fred C. Cook
of Cincinnati, Ohio, and George e. cook of Tonkawa; a daughter, Carol R. Grover of Lancaster, Calif; seven grandchildren;
and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Rothburn Cramer: Died August 25,

Charles Rothburn Cramer was born Aug 20, 1930 to Robert and Dora Lee (Haynes) Cramer in rural Cherryvale, Kansas.
While he was growing up his family moved many times throughout Southeastern Kansas. Upon completing high school
he started as a car salesman in Independence, Kan. Shortly thereafter he entered the Navy. After leaving the Navy,
he returned to work as a salesman in a car dealership in Independence, Kan. He married Janette Garner on June 8,
1952. In 1959, Charles and Janette moved their family to Fort collins, where he started to work as a salesman for
Cooper Michael Motors Chevrolet dealership.
In March of 1967, Charles started working for State Farm Insurance as an agent, where he earned many awards and
business atrips. He said many times that he enjoyed his time with State Farm. At his State Farm agency located
on south College Avenue in Fort collins, most people knew him as "Charlie" While working with State Farm,
Charles and Janette became involved with and volunteered many hours with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Through his
business and volunteer activities, he and Janett gained their love for travel.
After retiring in March of 1993, he and Janette traveled extensively and spent many more hours volunteering with
Wycliffe, as they both had a great desire to reach all people with the gospel of Jesus Christ in their native language.
Charles is survived by his wife, Janette; daughters, Diane Brown (Steven) of Monett, Mo., and Lorri Smith (Stephen)
of Mesa, Ariz; sons, Gary Cramer (Julie) of Fort Collins and Brian Cramer (Lynda) of Aurora, as well as eighteen
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His quiver was truly full. He is also survived by sisters, Mary Lou
Maher of Dallas, Texas, LInda Wills of Plano, Texas, and a brother Jack Cramer of Gold Canyon, Ariz.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, 900 E. Prospect Road. Interment will follow
at Grandview Cemetery. Pastor Mark Hanke will officiate at the service. Those who desire may view Mr. Cramer from
3 to 5 p.m. Monday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Gifts can be sent to Wycliffe Bible Translators care of Bohlander

John S. Clark, 80 of Cherryvale died Sunday, July 30, 1995 at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Services
will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Cherryvale with the Rev. Lex Fox, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery with both military and Masonic rites. Friends may call at the Webb & Rodrick
Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested
to the First Baptist Church.
Mr. Clark was born on September 13, 1914 in Thompsonville,
Ill. to John and Veva (Patterson) Clark. He served in the Army during World War II and again from 1951-1966. He
worked for the Kansas Highway Department and for several years at the Dewey Auto Store in Cherryvale. He was a
member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Cherryvale and the Cherryvale Masonic Lodge. He also was a deacon, trustee
and usher for the First Baptist Church in Cherryvale.
He married Carilyn Ragan on Nov 10, 1944 in Cherryvale.
She survives. He is also survived by a son John Clark Jr., Tulsa, Okla. a daughter Carilyn Jo Bernd, Dennis; a
sister Gladys Bodfish, Orlando, Fla; and five grandchildren.
Lenna M. Cole:
CHERRYVALE- Lenna Mae Cole, 72, former local resident and a resident of Fredonia athe past two years, died at 4:55
a.m. today (31 Dec 1976) at St. Margaret's Mercy Hospital in Fredonia. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and
will be announced later through the Burns Funeral Home in Cherryvale.
Lenna Mae Cole was born in Kansas, Sept. 27, 1904 to the late John and Hattie Hopkins. She married T.C. Cole at
Independence March 11, 1921. They owned and operated cole's Nursing Home in Cherryvale for a number of years before
retiring and moving to Grove, Okla and later to Fredonia. He preceded her in death. Also preceding Mrs. Cole in
death were two sisters and a brother.
Survivors include three sons, Leon, Fredonia, Bob,
Independence, Dick, Cherryvale; two caughters, Mrs. Gene (Louise) House, Bell Gardens, Calif., Mrs. Donald (Jean)
Hibdon, Jacksonville, Fla; one brother, James Hopkins, Independence, three sisters, Hazel Kelly, Alice Wiley both

CHERRYVALE - Elinore Maxine Davis, 76 of Cherryvale,
died sunday night (April 2, 1995) at the home of her sister, Geraldine Christy in Shawnee.
Services will be at 2 p.m. thursday at the Cherryvale
United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Arnold Roland officiating. burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery under
the direction of Darling and Burns chapel. Friends may call at the chapel from noon until 8 p.m. Wednesday and
from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, when the casket will be closed. Friends may call to register at the church after
1 p.m. Thursday. The family has suggested memorials to the Cherryvale United Methodist Church or the Kansas city
Hospice Organization. Remembrances will be received at the funeral home or the church office.
She was born on Feb 3, 1919 in Cherryvale to George
W. and Anna L. (Gentry) Lowder. She graduated from Cherryvale High School and attended Independence Junior College
for a year. After her schooling, she worked at the Carl Drug Store for a time and during World War II, she worked
at the Sunflower Ordance Plant in Parsons. She worked in the office of Dr. James Hoopingarner for a time, the office
of the Reliance Manufacturing plant and later in the office of Dr. Cramer. She worked as secretarey to the Cherryvale
High School principal for 25 years before her retirement.
She was a member of the Cherryvale United Methodist
Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Cherryvale Civic Club.
She married George E. Davis on July 21, 1945 in
Cherryvale. He died in 1989. She is survived by the sister, Geraldine Christy, Shawnee, Kans. (Submitted by Freda

F. Davis
Donald F. Davis, 85, of rural Cherryvale died Friday, July 26, 1996, at Mercy Hospital where he had been admitted
a short time earlier. Funeral service was held Tuesday at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale with Pastor Don Keenan
of the Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial was at the Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale.
Donald Frederick Davis was born July 4, 1911 in rural Cherryvale to Charles F. Davis and Daisy Grace (Carter) Davis.
He attended school and grew up in Cherryvale. Following his schooling he engaged in farming and also worked at
the grain elevator and feed store in Cherryvale.
On May 19, 1939 in McAlester, Oklahoma he married Delia E. Mendenhall. The couple made their home in rural Cherryvale
most of their married life. Mrs. Davis survives at the home in rural Cherryvale.
He attended the Cherryvale Church of the Nazarene. Surviving in addition to the widow are two daughters, Donna
Woods of Neodesha and Alene Smith of Cherryvale, seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren;
three sisters; Pearl Scott of California, Opal Bennett and Etta Wright, both of Longview, Washington. Casketberarers

WICHITA - Virginia Lee Porter Fiser, 83, of Wichita, and formerly of Cherryvale, died Friday (Feb 24, 2006). Two

The second will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Cherryvale. Memorials are suggested to the

Mrs. Fiser was born Sept 8, 1922 in McAlester, Okla. She graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1940, where she
was class valedictorian. She attended the University of Kansas and later Wichita State University, where she was
an art history major. She was a chartger member of Phi Kappa Phi national honorary scholastic society. She was
national executive secretary treasurer foer Mu Phi Epsilon from 1956 to 1968, later serving as their National Philippine
Chairman and National Archivies Chairman. She also held several offices of MuPhi Epsilon's Wichita alumni.
She held various national offices in the Professional
Panhellenic Association and was national president in 1971 to 1973. She was also a member of the National Board
of Interfraternity Research and Advisory Council.
She was a member of CPA Wives in Wichita and a
member of Wichita's Thursday Afternoon Music Club for more than 50 years. She was a former president and board
of directors member of Opera Kansas, and the board of directos of Autumn Chase Homeowners Association, garden committee
and Lakepoint Masters Association garden committee. She is survived by her husband Van Fiser; two sons, Frederick
E. Fiser, Sacramento, Calif. and Kurt E. Fiser, Wichita; three sisters, Eleanor Porter Riordan, Solveng, Calif.,
Frances M. Power; Santa Rosa, Calif, and Emma Porter Cummins, Junction City; two brothers James A. Porter, Martinez,

APACHE - Funeral for Betty Jean Kendall Free, 87, Apache, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the First Pentecostal Holiness
Church of Apache, with the Rev. Bud Jones Officiating with the assistance of the Rev. Ralph Davis and the Rev.
Kip Ackley, both of Cyril.
Mrs. Free died Saturday, April 25, 2009 in Lawton.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under direction of Crews Funeral Home of Apache.
She was born June 12, 1921 in Newton, Kansas to Claude and Lydia (Hurren) Kendall. She attended Cherryvale, Kansas
schools and grduaated in 1938. She attended college in Independence, Kansas. She married Carl F. Free on Feb 18,
1940 in Cherryvale, Kan. The couple had two children and their spouses; Ann Free Orf and her husband, Fred, Apache,
and Cia "Dub" Free and his wife E. J. of Brenham, Texas. She was a pastor's wife and with her husband
served many churches throughout Kansas and Oklahoma, including Apache. They eventually retired to Apache in 1981.
She was a faithful active member of the First Pentecostal Holiness church of Apache.
Other survivors include five grandchildren; Mitzi
Wright and husband Shane, Kernersville, N.C. Kim Hale and husband Travis, Hyrdo; Kacy Abney and husband, Jeremy
and Linsy Igmire and husband, Nathan, all of Tecumseh; and Megan I Brenham, Texas, 11 great-grandchildren. She

William Earl Gray of Lihu'e, Hawaii, died Sept
5, 2004, at his home in Lihu'e at the age of 81. Born Feb 8, 1923 in Cherryvale, Kansas, he was a proprietor in
retail sales. He is survived by his wife, Jane Gray of Lihu'e; two daughters: Cynthia (Jack) Lincoln of California
and Saundra (Tony) Maroussis of Seattle; one stepson, Malcolm (Marcel) Smith, Jr., of Mililani; one stepdaughter;
Pamela (Albert) Smith-Chock of Kapahi; three sisters; Marie Lawrence of Texas, Frances Gilliland of Kansas; Juanita
Bulger of Kansas, two brothers; Grant Gray of Kansas and Jim Gray of Missouri; seven grandchildren; and three
great grandchildren. The family asks that flowers be omitted; Services will be Saturday, Sept 11, at Borthwick
Mortuary Chapel in Koloa. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Memorial services will be celebrated at 3

Coffeyville -- C.B. Bruce Harrell, 71, of 508 Willow, died Friday, December 17,1999, at his home. Cremation has
taken place.
A memorial service will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at
St. Paul's Episcopal church with Masonic services by Keystone Lodge. Private internment will take place lter,
under the direction of Ford Wulf-Bruns Funeral Service. Memorials are suggested to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled
Children.
Mr. Harrell was born Feb 8, 1928 in Greensburg
to John and Ethel (Beckett) Harrell. He attended Greensburg schools and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean
War. On Feb 14, 1947 in Wichita, he married Glenna Battin and she survives.
The couple moved to Coffeyville from Wichita in
1959 where he and two partners established Tri-State Electric Supply Co..He bought the firm from his partners and
operated it until selling it to his employees in 1989. Mr. Harrell was a member of Keystone Masonic Lodge. AF&AM,
No. 102, the Shrine Club of Coffeyville, and the Scottish Consistory and Mirza Temple Shrine of Fort Scott. He
was also a former member of the Rotary Club.
Other survivors include a son, Curtis Harrell,
rural Liberty; three daughters, Kathy Johnson, Post Falls, Idaho, Debbie Stevens, Owasso, Okla., and Shelly Kendrick,
Collinsville, Okla; two brothers, Doug Harrell, Greensburg, and Reese Harrell, Mount Ida, Ark; a sister Sue Daniels,

Hinman
McKinney, Texas -- Dora L. Hinman, 95, a resident of Winters Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Garland,
Texas, and a Cherryvale, Kansas native, died Monday, February 2, 2007. Services will be at Turrentin/Jackson/Morrow
Funeral Home in McKinney, Texas on Thursday. She will be buried at Ridgeview Memorial Park in McKinney. Mrs.
Hinman was born Jan 11, 1912 in rural Cherryvale, the daughter of Alexander and Alice (Holman) Haynes. She grew
up in rural Cherryvale. She married Robert Cramer on Dec 29, 1929 in Cherryvale and he died in 1966. She later
married Leon Hinman of Cherryvale. She lived in Cherryvale for 49 years and was a member of First christian Church
there for 50 some years, later changing her membership to First Christian Church in Richardson, Texas. She worked
at the Parsons Ammunition Plant for several years and then in a garment factory in Cherryvale. She moved to Dallas
in 1998 to be near her daughters. Mrs Hinman is survived by two daughters, Mary Maher, Dallas, Texas, and Linda
Wills, Garland, Texas; two sons, Charles R. Cramer, Fort Collins, Colo., and Jack Cramer, gold Canyon, Ariz; 11

HOPKINS, OLLIE J.
Cherryvale -- Ollie J. Hopkins, 62, of 715 E. 3rd,
died today, Dec. 7, 1972, at 6:10 a.m. in Mercy Hospital at Independence. He was a retired employee of the Cherryvale
Zinc Company. Born Jan 2, 1910 at Cherryvale, he was the son of John and Hattie (Ballew) Hopkins. On June 17,
1943 he married Elizabeth Taylor and she survives at the home. Mr. Hopkins was a veteran of World War II. Other
survivors include three sons, Jim of Cherryvale, Tom of Columbus, Miss., Don of Emporia; a daughter Louetta of
the home; four sisters, Mrs. Alice Wiley and Mrs. Hazel Kelly of Wichita; Mrs. Lena Cole of Afton, Okla., and Mrs.
Jeneva Bone of Cherryvale; a brother James of Independence; and four grandchildren, Preceding in death were the
parents; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m.

Coffeyville resident, Calvin F. Harvey, Jr. died
Tuesday, December 18, 2007 in Coffeyville. He was 86. Calvin F. "Doby" Harvey, Jr. was born May 19,
1921 to Calvin and Sara (Heath) Harvey in Coffeyville, Kansas. He grew up and attended rural schools at Pierson,
Dearing and Field Kindley High School.
On August 24, 1941, he married Dorothy M. Roberts
in Lenapah, Oklahoma. the couple made their home in Coffeyville area. Calvin entered the United State Army in
1945 and was stationed overseas in the Phillippines and Hawaii. In 1947, he became the manager of the Coffeyville
Stockyards. Later, he worked at Continental Can which later became Olin-Dixon Manufacturing. For part time work,
he drove cattle trucks for his brother, Glen, who owned Harvey Trucking. In 1978 he went to work for Dixon Industries
and retired from there in 1987. Calvin was a member of the Coffeyville Bible church, the Masons and the VFW.
The last few years he enjoyed going out for morning coffee with his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of the home;
son, Richard Harvey and wife, Nancy of Coffeyville; daughter-in-law, Evva Harvey of Broken Arrow, Okahoma; grandaughter,
Crystal Rutherford and husband, Paul of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Jennifer Storm and husband, Doug, of Owasso, Oklahoma,
Tami Foster and husband Billy of Coffeyville and Stacey Marsh of Yukon, Oklahoma; great grandchildren, Logan and
Emily Foster, Colton, Storm, Bronson and Jordan Brown and Mason Marsh; one niece and six nephews. He was preceded
in death by his parents; brother, Glen; sister, Arlene and son Donald.
Funeeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday,
December 21, 2007 at Penwell Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas. Pastor Wayne Martin will officiate.
Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel's Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
