HENDRICKS, CHARLENE F.

Fredonia - Charlene F. Hendricks, 63, of Fredonia, died Friday as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Fredonia. Her grandson, Matthew Henricks also died in the accident.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute with the Rev. Gene Benefiel, of Buxton Christian Church officiating.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Timmons Funeral Home in Fredonia.

Mrs. Hendricks was born Sept. 26, 1940 in Chanute, the daughter of Willard Howard and Dorothy May (Hiner) Wilson. She graduated from Chanute High School.

She was a retired Wilson County employee, having worked in both the county treasurer's and county appraiser's offices.

HEROLD, ROSEMARY

Rosemary Herold, 92, of chanute, died Sunday at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in chanute.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service Wednesday. burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute. Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. Herold was born Nov. 9, 1913 in rural Altoona, the daughter of Edgar and Gertrude (Ragle) Clayton.

She married Hans Herold, both of Chanute; five sisters, Elsin VanTuyl, Evansville, Ind., Annice June Crimmins, Bartlesville, Okla., Bethane Campbell, Kansas City, Mo., Sharon Viets, Independence, and Gertrude Weaver, California; two brothers, Hadwin Clayton, Bartlesville, Okla., and Alan Clayton, California, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. KINZIE, MICHAEL J. "BOE"

Michael J. Boe Kinzie, 52, of Chanute died Saturday (Jan. 3, 2004) at the Harry Hyne Memorial Care Unit in Wichita.

Survivors include a brother, Brian Kinzie of Edna and a sister, Ann Wiley of Liberty.

Private family services will be held under the direction of the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons.

CHANUTE - Michael J. "BOE" Kinzie, 52, of Chanute, formerly of Parsons, died at 6 p.m. at Harry Hynes Memorial Care Unit in Wichita. he had been in ill health for six weeks.

He was born May 1, 1951 at Tulsa, Okla., to Charles E. and Catherine (Jarboe) Kinzie.

As an infant he moved with his family to Parsons, where he grew up and attended St. Patrick's Elementary school. He graduated from Maur Hill Catholic High School in Atchison. He returned to Parsons and worked with his parents at Kinzie Home Furnishings. He worked as a chef in several restaurants and clubs in Florida before returning to Parsons where he was a chef at the Parsons County Club. In 1997 he moved to Tulsa and worked as a warehouse manager for Jarboe Sales for several years. In 2001, he moved to Chanute where he was a chef and the fishing manager and event coordinator for the Lil' Toledo Lodge.

He married Kaye (Hurtt) Lightner. They divorced. He married Marti (Simkin) Wells-Smith. They divorced. He married Marianne (Velardi) Binkley in Port St. Lucie, Fla. They divorced.

Survivors include one son, Michael Kinzie of Port St. Lucie; two daughters, Heather Fulling of Greeley, Colo., and Emily Kinzie of Saratoga, Wy.; one brother, Brian C. Kinzie of Edna; three sisters, Adria Morrison of Parsons, Millissa Gofourth of Stillwater, Okla., and Ann Wiley of LIberty; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a granddaughter.

MENDOZA, ROSALIO "CHARLIE"

Coffeyville - Rosalio "Charlie" Mendoza, 72, of Coffeyville, died Monday at his home.

Recitation of the rosary will be today at 5 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Chanute.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with burial and military honors in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery. Penwell-Gabel Ford Wulf Bruns Chapel, Coffeyville is in charge of arrangements.

There are no formal calling hours and the body will lie in state at the church.

Mr. Mendoza was born on Sept. 4, 1932 in Chanute to Evarista (Gutierrez) and Bernie Mendoza.

He was a 1951 graduate of Field Kindley Memorial High School in Coffeyville.

He served in the United States Army from 1951-1954 and in the United States Air Force from 1954-1971. He retired with rank of technicial sergeant and had served in the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Mr. Mendoza worked for the U. S. Postal service in Phoenix, Ariz., for 10 years. His family then moved back to Kansas and lived in the Humboldt community. He and his wife moved to Coffeyville in 2004.

Mr. Mendoza was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church, Coffeyville.

He is survived by his wife, Connie, of the home in Coffeyville; four daughters, Angelina Bennett, Collinsville, Ill. Joni Mendoza and Charleen Isit; both of Phoenix, Ariz., Susan Baines, Juneau, Alaska; 10 grandchildren; and three sisters and six brothers. NEELY, JERRY JAY

Chanute - Jerry Jay Neely, 62, of Chanute, died Wednesday at Chanute Health Care Center.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Living Word Assembly with the Rev. Leroy Foreman officiating. The family will receive visitors from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at 1725 S. Central, Chanute.

Memorials are suggested to Prairie Meadows Therapeutic Riding Center, Cherry Street Youth Center or the Fire Escape Coffeehouse, and donations may be left with Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel, Chanute, which is handling the arrangements.

Mr. Neely was born in San Bernardino, Calif., on June 5, 1942, the son of George E. and Mary (Castle) Neely. He was raised in the Earlton and Thayer area, graduating from Thayer High School in 1960. He also lived in Parsons and Altamont before moving to Chanute.

He married Reeda Greer on April 29, 1962. They later divorced.

He married Norma Jean Roush on September 9, 1985 at Iola, and she survives at the home.

Mr. Neeley was a truck driver for the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons and also drove truck across country. He was also a farmer and trained horses.

He was a member of the Bit and Spur Saddle Club.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Neely is survived by four daughters, Jamie Loretta Pimentel, Bentonville, Ark., Teresa Dupuy, Chanute, Mary Roush, Tulsa, Okla., and Lara Busby, Chanute; a son, Jeff Roush, Hendersonville, N. PAULIE, CATHERINE D.

Chanute - Catherine D. Paulie, 90, formerly of Chanute, died Monday at Villa St. Francis in Olathe.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Scaletty officiating. Burial will follow at St. Patrick catholic Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m .Wednesday at the church followed by the rosary.

Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick Catholic Church and they may be left with Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, Chanute, which is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. Paulie was born Sept. 9, 1914 at Scipio, the daughter of Peter and Gesena (Roecker) Wolken.

She married John A. Paulie on Jan. 11, 1937 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chanute. They lived in St. Paul for many years and Mr. Paulie died in 1983.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

She is survived by four daughters, Mary Catherine Casida, Prairie Village, Sister Catherine Therese Pauli, Garden City, Teresa Strecker, Independence, and Sharon Higney, Leawood; a son Mike Pauli, Chanute; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. PRYOR, BETTY J.

Chanute - Betty J. Pryor, 79, of Chanute, died Thursday at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center.

Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Gibson Kock Fiskel Chapel with Pat Crowl officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will received friends at the funeral home on Sunday between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association.

Mrs. Pryor was born Nov. 10, 1924 in Fredonia to Daniel and Mary (Holcroft) Penny.

She graduated from Fredonia High School in 1942 and was a member of the First Christian Church. She worked for many years at Automotive Controls Corp in Independence retiring in 1994 and moving to Chanute.

Survivors include three daughters, Janis Kohler, Chicago, Ill., Susan Dick, Chanute, and Pam Crittenden, Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters, Peggy Rule, Wichita; Twila Urbanek, Tulsa, Okla., and Lucille McCarty, Seattle, Wash.; a brother James Penny, Wichita, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. RUSH, ELMER L.

Coffeyville - Elmer L. Rush, 88, of Coffeyville, died Saturday at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Norton officiating. Burial and graveside services will be at 2 p.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute.

Friends may call Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Penwell Gabel Ford Wulf Bruns Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday.

Memorials are suggested to Harry Hynes Hospice or the First Baptist Church.

Mr. Rush was born August 21, 1917 near Iola to Ernest and Ruth (Cornell) Rush. He was a 1935 graduate of Neosho Falls High School.
He served as a sergeant in the Army of the United States during World War II and was based in England for four years.

On June 27, 1948 he married Eva Heinlein in Chanute, and she survives.

Mr. Rush was a lineman with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He served with the Interstate Fair and Rodeo Association as grounds chairman.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Telephone Pioneers.

Other survivors include two daughters, Mabel Irene Clark and Anita Grove, both of Coffeyville, three grandsons, and two great-grandsons; and a sister, Ernestine Braswell, Wichita. SMITH, DORIA MAVIS TOMLINSON

Chanute - Doria Mavis Tomlinson Smith, 88, of Chanute, died Tuesday at Heritage Healthcare Center in Chanute.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Myers officiating. Burial will be in Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel, Chanute from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church and they may be left with the funeral home.

Mrs. Smith was born July 26, 1915, in rural Allen County to Ira and Viola (Thurman) Dozier. She graduated from Chanute High School in 1933.

She married Ralph E. Tomlinson on Oct. 27, 1934 in Bentonville, Ark and he die din 1972. She married Forest Frederick in 1981 and he died in 1982. In 1987 she married Roy Smith and he proceeded her in death in 1988.

Mrs. Smith had worked for the Singer Sewing Machine Co. and later for the Sears store.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include three daughters, Ann Myers, Carthage, Mo., Carol Swenson, Olathe, and Lois Lindquist, Chanute; a son, Richard Tomlinson, Wichita; a sister, Gertrude Tweddell, Lawrence, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. ALMOND, JOHN LEONARD "BUDDY"

John Leonard "Buddy" Almond, 77, of Chanute, died Sunday at his home.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 2 p.. in Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Dennis Beal officiating. There will be military honors by the American Legion.

The family will receive friends at Johnson Mortuary from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the Altoona-Midway School.

Mr. Almond was born Sept. 15, 1926 in Merriam, to D. L. "Jake" and Norma (Stevens) Almond. He graduated from Chanute High School in 1944 and served in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II as a rifleman.

Mr. Almond worked as a shift foreman for Ash Grove Cemetery Co., retiring after 47 years.

He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

On Nov. 10, 1956, in Miami, Okla., he married Sue Hummer and she survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Randy Almond and Jeff Almond, both of Chanute; Mike Almond, Independence; two daughters, Roni Bockover and Robyn Almond, both of Chanute; a brother, Glen Almond of Oregon and 12 grandchildren. BAUGH, ETTA "GRANNY"

Fredonia - Etta L. "Granny" Baugh, 97, of Chanute, died Sunday at Neosho Memorial Hospital in Chanute.

Visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. and services at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Westview Southern Baptist Church in Chanute. Burial will be in Walnut Cemetery. Countryside Funeral Home in Fredonia is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Baugh was born Nov. 19,1912 in Walnut, the daughter of Frank Albert and Anna Edna (Murdock) Burger.

She married Oren Alvin "Skinny" Baugh on March 15, 1931 in Neosho, Mo., and he died in 1982.

Mrs. Baugh was past matron of the Eastern Star of Walnut. She served several years as PTA president as a leader for many years with 4-H and was a member of a quilting club and of Westview Southern Baptist.

Survivors include a son, Howard Baugh of Fredonia; three daughters, Norma Jean McMurray of Sedgwick, Betty Ann coester, of Chanute and Virginia Kay myers, of Texas, 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

BOYD, TERESA

Teresa Boyd, 86, of Chanute, died Monday at her home.

Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chanute. Rosay will be recited at 7 p.m. tonight at the church.

Mrs. Boyd was born Aug. 10, 1920 in Dundalk, Ireland, the daughter of James and Esther (Fennelly) Morrissey.

She married Karl K. Boyd in 1944 and they home in Bury St. Edmunds, England until moving to the United States in 1946. Mr. Boyd preceded her in death.

Mrs. Boyd is survived by a son, Phillip Boyd, Lexington, Ky; five daughters, Maureen Ward, Valerine Frederick, Mary Manley, and Janice Erickson all of Chanute and Pam Leverenz, Haslett, Texas; two brothers, Father Brendan Morrissey, Dublin, Ireland, and Gabriel Morrissey, Dundalk, Ireland; two sisters, Nancy Morrissey and Maureen Morrissey both of Dundalk; and 12 grandchildren. HERDER, MARGARET ANN

Margaret Ann Herder, 61, of Chanute, died Tuesday at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Colfax Cemetery in rural Chanute.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Penwell-Gabel-Johnson Chapel.

Mrs. Herder was born March 29, 1948 in Blackwell, Okla., the daughter of Ernest and Katie Mae (Bowling) Eggers.

She married Kenneth Herder on Aug. 24, 1969 in Humboldt, and he survives at the home.

Mrs. Herder was a homemaker and a former owner of Jody's Attic.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her father, Ernest Eggers, and his wife, Eula of Humboldt, two brothers, Henry Eggers, of Yates Center and Roger Eggers of Ozawkie; and a sister, Sue Poor of Anthony.

KESSLER, LARRY "BONES"

Larry Lee "Bones" Kessler, 65, of Chanute, died Thursday, March 31 at his home.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 7 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Chanute.

Cremation has taken place and memorial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Healing Center Church of God, and burial will be in Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Kessler was born July 28, 1945 at Parsons, the son of Buford Kessler and Dorothy (Sears) Kessler. He attended Chanute schools.
He joined the U. S. Air Force and served from 1962 to 1966.

He married Betty Isaacs on July 15, 1967 in Erie and she survives at the home.

Mr. Kessler worked at a saw mill in the St. Paul area and later worked as a camper builder with Nu-Wa Industries. He retired in 2008.
In addition to his widow, survivors include a son, Brad Kessler, and a daughter, Lisa Kessler, both of Chanute; two grandchildren; and four brothers, Gary Kessler of Cherryvale, Tom Pugh of Shaw and C. C. Collins and Jerry Collins both of Tulsa, Okla.

MERRITT, JANE ANN

Jane Ann Merritt, 78, of rural Thayer, died Friday at Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Chanute, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Episcopal Church in Chanute. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Merritt was born June 15, 1932 in Topeka, the daughter of Charles and Cuba Jane (Russum) Wells. She graduated from the University of Tennessee, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi.

For five years she taught high school biology and chemistry in Chattanooga, Tenn.

She married Robert L. Merritt on Aug. 8, 1959 in Signal Mountain, Tenn. And he survives at the home. During Mr. Merritt's service in the U. S. Navy, the couple lived in Arizona, California, Florida, Washington, D. C., Maryland and England.

Mrs. Merritt was a member of the Church of the Ascension in Neodesha and a former member of Grace Episcopal Church in Chanute.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, William S. Merritt of California, Md.; a daughter, Nancy J. Simmons, of Chanute; two grandchildren and three step grandchildren.

RUSH, EVA REBECCA

Eva Rebecca Rush, 92, of Coffeyville, died Monday.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Neosho county Cemetery in Chanute.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville, with the family receiving visitors from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist church in Coffeyville.

Mrs. Rush was born Sept. 1, 1917 in Colony, the daughter of John and Mabel (Bass) Heinlein. She grew up in Colony and graduated from high school in Humboldt. She attended beauty school in Pittsburg.

She married Elmer L. rush on June 27, 1948 in Chanute. He died in 2006.

The couple made their home in Coffeyville. Mrs. Rush was a homemaker and she was a member of First Baptist Church. She was past PTA president and active in the Life Home Demonstration Unit.

Mrs. Rush is survived by two daughters, Mabel Irene Clark and Anita Rae Grove, both of Coffeyville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
