Kleiner, Edward
Delphos Republican, February 17, 1938
Edward Kleiner, son of Samuel and Mary Anna Kleiner, was born at Highland, Ill., on June 14, 1860, and departed
this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Leonard Somers, on Feb. 14, 1938, at 11:30 a.m. at the age of 77 years
and eight months. He had been in failing health the past year; everything that loving hands could do was done to
relieve his sufferings. He was a patient sufferer, never complaining. He was married to Rose Hohman on Dec. 30,
1884, at Beatrice, Nebraska. To this union five children were born, three daughters and two sons.
He came to Kansas at an early age and settled in Riley, Kansas. He, with his wife and family, moved to Delphos
in 1900. He was employed in a butcher shop, later he did farming for several years, and then work in an implement
store until about four years ago. He was a helpful, kindly father and friend. His wife and son, Eddie, preceded
him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing: three daughters, Mrs. Leon Somers, Mrs. Robert Cook and Mrs. Leonard
Somers, all of Delphos; one son, Charley Kleiner, of Aztec, New Mex.; two sisters, Mrs. Sophia Fosha of Peyton,
Colo. and Mrs. Louisa Rinker of Riley, Kansas; six brothers, Will, Herman and Otto Kleiner of Riley, Gus Kleiner
of Jewell, Kansas, Charley Kleiner of Rocky, Okla., and Joe Kleiner of Albuquerque, New Mex.; fourteen grandchildren,
six great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
His daughters were all present to care for him the last few days of his illness. His son, Charley, was unable to
come because of illness in his own family.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church, Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. K.L.
Hubler. The body was carried to its last resting place in the Delphos Cemetery by Gurney Paramore, Ben Halderson,
Quin Somers, Joe Durst, Wilbur Gibbs, and C.L. Zigler.
