Fairview Cemetery 1883 also known as Fairview - Elmer Cemetery is located south/east of the small community of Elmer, KS. From Hwy 96 (south/east of Elmer) go north on Sand Creek Road that comes to a "T", go left and continue north about 1/2 mile. Or from the Elmer community sign on Trail West Road go east about 1 mile and then south on Sand Creek Road about 1/2 mile.

Quote from the "Cemetery Records for Reno county Kansas 1865 - 1975" book "Fairview-Elmer Cemetery was originally a small plot of land on the homestead of Warren F. White. His son, George H. White, seven years old was the first person to be buried there in 1873. In 1880, Warren White fifty years old, was buried there also. After this date there were trustees for the growing cemetery who surveyed and plotted the land. The record book noted that lots were selling for $3.00 eah in 1883. Sarah White, Warren White's widow, deeded the plot to the Fairview Cemetery Association in 1888. The cemetery is in the SW corner of NW1/4 Sec. 17-24-5 in Yoder Township."

The Cemetery sits on the east side of the road enclosed in a fence with two gates. In the center of the front fence is the name of the cemetery on a large arched black rod iron sign "Fairview 1883 Cemetery." "The Trust of the Hutchinson National Bank has charge of this cemetery since Jan. 1, 1967" is written on a marble headstone located in the first row at the front of the cemetery. The cemetery looked well maintained when I first began reading it but returning after several weeks the grass was fairly tall. This cemetery does appear to be still active.
