LIBERAL, SEWARD COUNTY.

The terminal city of The Chicago, Kansas and Nebraska Ry., platted April 1, 1888, now has nearly 1,000 population, two banks, four organized churches, good schools, etc. Is a passenger and freight division town. The railway company have built here a round-house, a large freight depot, a 820,000 passenger depot and hotel, a water system, etc. Their machine shops are to be located here, the most extensive of their whole system. The road will be extended west in two lines in two years, one line to the Pacific Coast, and one via El Paso to Old Mexico, making Liberal the junction of two large railway systems with headquarters, shops, etc. Liberal is the gateway to "No Man's Land," which must soon be opened for settlement. Everything goes there through Liberal, which is the only distributing point for 100 miles south, 125 miles west, and 40 miles north.
