Daniel Huntsman, son of Peter and Malinda Trammell Huntsman, born in Indiana, February 23, 1840, and died at his home in Scottsville, Kentucky, May 10, 1927, aged 87 years. In 1861 he volunteered and served in the Ninth Kentucky Infantry for a year and after an attack of fever left him in such a condition he was discharged at Columbia Tennessee. Later his health improving, he again offered his services to his country and was assigned to the 52nd Infantry and was discharged at the close of the war. He married America J. Stephens in March 1864, and nine children were born to them. Laura, (a daughter) who married W.T. Brown, died in 1895. In the early part of his life he professed religion and united with the M.E. Church at Mt. Pleasant, where he held his membership until he moved it to Scottsville M.E. Church when it was organized and built. No man has been more loyal to his church than Daniel Huntsman. He often gave when it was a burden to him and his home was always open to the ministers and their families when serving in their work.
Mr. Huntsman came to this county with his father when he was quite young and has been content to live out his long and useful life among his friends and relatives. He was one of those quiet, unassuming farmer citizens until he was appointed postmaster in 1901 by President McKinley and served for nine years in that capacity, having been re-appointed by President Roosevelt. Since that time he has lived with his family here in Scottsville. Mr. Huntsman is survived by his widow, Mrs. America Huntsman, and the following children: Dr. W.F. Huntsman, E.W. Huntsman, Rev. R.W. and H.C. Huntsman, Mrs. Julia Wade and Miss Ona Huntsman; two brothers, G.T. and Joseph W. Huntsman, and one sister, Mrs. M.M. Cook; three half brothers, Rupert, Hershel and Waldo Huntsman, and one half sister, Mrs. Vernia Hunt. Funeral services were held May 11th at the Market Street Methodist Church where Mr. Huntsman was a member. Burial was made in teh Crescent Hill Cemetery --

Mr. Huntsman had visited his son, Dr. W.F. Huntsman, here and those who met him could not fail to be impressed
with the fact that he was a man of strong character. He reared his children in the way they should go and from
them demanded obedience and respect, with the consequence they also gave him the fullest love. [The Lexington Progress Henderson County TN 27 May 1927, Contributed by Christine
