COUNTY HISTORY Created on Feb. 15, 1842, it was formed from Hickman and McCracken Counties and named in honor of Captain Bland W. Ballard, of Allen's Rifle Regiment Most records were destroyed in a courthouse fire on Feb. 17, 1880.
