Four Army Funeral Monday; 3 Guardsmen and 1 Regular

Four Military funeral were held Monday from the parlors of the J. W. Peak undertaking company on Texas street.
   The body of Lieut. William L. Armstrong, aged 33 years of company M, First North Carolina infantry, who died Saturday night was shipped to the former home of the deceased in High Point, N. C. at 3 o’clock.
   Services for Sergt. Clyde L. Martin, aged 27 years, of the 13th cavalry, who died Saturday afternoon of pneumonia, were held at 12:15 o’clock, and the body sent to Fora, Ill., the former home of the deceased. 
   The body of Pvt. George Hargraves, aged 20 years, of company G, First Kentucky infantry, was shipped Monday afternoon to Mammoth Cave, Ky., for burial.
   Services for Pvt. B. J. Ziegler, aged 26 years, of company M, Second South Carolina infantry, were held at 4:30 o’clock and the body sent to Elloree, S. C. [Submitted by Dale Donlon; March 2011]

William Glenn Smith

Dies In Truck Collision

 

      A 65-year-old County man was killed and his wife slightly injured Saturday I a two-truck collision on Ky 259 approximately four miles south of Brownsville.

      Dead on arrival at City-County Hospital in Bowling Green was William Glenn Smith, Route 2, Brownsville, driver of a small pickup truck.

      Mrs. Dora Smith, wife of the fatality victim was treated at the hospital and released.

      According to the investigating officer, State Police trooper Cecil Overstreet, Smith was traveling south on the highway near the intersection of KY. 101, when a north bound truck, driven by Ruben Vincent, 48, Ollie, went out of control on wet pavement and began to skid.

      Overstreet said details of the accident are not complete, but there are indications the Smith truck crashed into the side of the large truck driven by Vincent.

      Vincent was not injured in the collision said Overstreet, and there was little damage to his late model truck.

      The Smith vehicle was extensively damaged with a major portion of the damage done to the left front of the pickup truck.

      Smith’s death brought the traffic fatality toll in the eight county area served by the Bowling Green State Police district to 42 compared to 37 for the same period last year.

      Smith is survived by his widow, Mrs. Dora Smith; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Madison and Mrs. Sally York. Bowling Green; Mrs. Roland Price and Mrs. Ora Reynolds, both of Munfordville; four brothers, Perry, Brownsville; John and Clifton Smith, Louisville; and Clarence of Wisconsin.

      Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at Silent Grove with burial in the Bell Key Cemetery.  The body remained at the Sharer Funeral Home until the hour of the funeral.    [Submitted by Charles Finn]
