Elko Daily Independent May 17, 1886 Death of Francis Cummins Francis M. Cummins died in this city yesterday. Deceased was an old and esteemed resident of the State. He was born in Woodford County, Kentucky, in July 1828. At the age of 19 he enlisted in the Mexican war; remaining in the army till the close of the struggle when he emigrated to this State. An ardent Democrat, he was always actively engaged in polities, and was held in great respect for his strict integrity. On Tuesday last he was stricken with paralysis and lingered till yesterday. He leaves a wife and daughter. The funeral will take place on Saturday under the auspices of the Veterans of the Mexican War and Old Friends – (S.F. Examiner. Mr. Cummins was formerly a well-known resident of Elko, and his brother, Jake Cummins, was the original ? Of the Scott ranch, near Halleck, where he died in 1878.) Donated by: Dena Whitesell |
