First Case Tried in New Building
Intial Pleading Delivered by Allen P. Cubbage, But Carrier Winner
Lonnie Litsey, Jess Lowe, Ernest Jackson, Lee, Powell, G. C. Earles, A. J. Downs, W. L. Downey, H. L. Burres, Raymond Goodwin, Mrs. Ross Cannon and Ollie Litsey composed the first jury to hear a case in the new Grayson County court house here on Wednesday. The trial, held before Judge George K. Holbert, was the case of Roy Stoess against Georgetown Construction Company, in which Stoess, represented by Chester O. Carrier, won the case.
Mr. Coyle was represented by Allen P. Cubbage, who had the honor of being the first attorney to plead a case in the new court house. However, Mr. Carrier had the distinction of winning the first case in the new seat of justice. Both attorneys, in their opening remarks, referred to the new building and the hope that victory might be theirs.
Mrs. Cannon was not only the county's first woman juror, but also the first woman to sit on a jury in the new court house.
