Biographies

 

GEORGE NICHOLAS BIGGS is a native of Kentucky, born in Greenup County Feb. 11, 1846.  He is a son of William Biggs, Sr., born at Mt. Sterling, Montgomery Co., Ky, Oct. 19, 1800, and Lucy Blakemore (Davis) Biggs, born in Lewis Co., Ky., May 11, 1812.  William Biggs and Lucy B. Davis were united in marriage in Carter Co., Ky., Oct. 11, 1827.

    In Greenup Co., Ky., Dec. 5, 1871, George N. Biggs wedded Elizabeth Jane Bryson, b. in Greenup Co., Mar. 22, 1850.  Her father was William Bryson, b. in Washington Co., Pa., Dec. 7, 1803, who m. Sept. 22, 1833, Elizabeth F. Lawson, b. in Hampshire Co., Va., July 20, 1809.  William Bryson died in Greenup Co., May 13, 1869 and his widow came to Greenbrier Co., W. Va. in Nov. 1882.  The parents of Mr. Biggs still reside in Greenup Co., Ky.

    The children of Mr. & Mrs. George N. Biggs are three: Samuel Green, Jr., b. Jan 22, 1874; Elizabeth L., b. Nov. 21, 1875; William Davis Biggs, b. May 28, 1880.

    In his native county Mr. Biggs served as sheriff and deputy from 1871 to 1875, and held several offices of minor importance.  He came to Greenbrier County, Dec. 9, 1881 and owns 771 acres of valuable land near Frankford, in Falling Springs District.  On it are 12 living springs of limestone water.  He receives his mail at Frankford, Greenbrier Co., W. Va.
