Heart Attack Fatal To Mrs. Emma Scott Well-Known Resident

Mrs. Emma Scott, 70, well-known resident of this city for a number of years, died Friday morning of a heart attack at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hansel Preston, on Fourth Street.

The daughter of the late W. B. and Pricy Runyon Smith, she was born October 14, 1885, in Pike County. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W. T. Scott, who died July 24, 1953.

Surviving are one son, Luther P. Scott, Bath, North Carolina; six daughters, Mrs. Etta Stewart, Mrs. Harry Thomas, Mrs. James H. Conley, Mrs. Hansel Preston, and Mrs. Tom R. King, all of Paintsville, and Mrs. Arnold Pack, Beaver, Ohio; one brother, Mr. Lat Smith, Williamson, W. Va., and three sisters, Mrs. Willie Oliver and Mrs. Walter Oaks, both of Williamson, W. Va. and Mrs. Berlin Oney, Ashland.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Southside Freewill Baptist Church with the Revs. Homer Willis, Stanley Borders and M. R. Thomason officiating.  Music was by the Goodwill Four.

Burial was made in the Richmond Cemetery in King Addition under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were John Compton, Arthur Castle, Arlan Ferguson, Clarence Melvin, Byrd O. Preston and Henry Evans.
