Central City Boy Killed Monday By Rockslide
Was Playing Along I. C. Right Of Way
A 13-year-old Central City boy was found fatally Injured at about 3 p. m. Monday afternoon when he was burled under nearly a ton of rock along the Illinois Central Railroad right of way. William Earl Stevens. son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Denzil Stevens, was climbing a bank near the west city limits when the rock began sliding and buried him. A companion. Larry Wood, 12, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Wood. Greenville Road, was uninjured. An Inquest will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a. m. by Coroner J. E. Croft.
Besides the parents, he Is survived by two sisters. Melba and Frieda Stevens. Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Wednesday In the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Francis E. Tallant. pastor, officiating. Burial was In Rose Hill Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers: Tom Campbell, Roy Morris, Lyle Baugh, Conley Taylor, Grainger Simpson and Delbert Cleaver.
