Fred Childers, a resident of The Dalles, Ore., for the past four years, died at his home Nov. 27 at the age 88. He was born April 28, 1893 in Pikeville, Ky. [Sic -- his World War II Draft Registration Card says born April 28, 1895 in Ashcamp, Kentucky]. He lived in the Riggins [Idaho] area in the early '60s and had a meat market. He belonged to the Methodist Church. He also was a resident of the Donnelly [Idaho] area and owned a grocery store there.
He was a WWI Army veteran and is survived by his wife, Ann, of The Dalles; one brother in Pikeville; several grand-, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Dec. 1 at The Dalles with burial in the Oddfellows Mausoleum.

PIKEVILLE -- John S. Cline Jr., a prominent Pike County lawyer and mineral
properties developer, died Sunday at Pikeville Methodist Hospital after a
long illness. He was 73.
Cline was one of the largest individual owners of coal reserves in Pike
County, his son Scott S. Cline said yesterday.
The elder Cline had practiced law in Pikeville from 1937 to 1973.
A trustee and administrator of the J.S. Cline Estate, he owned the Cline
Building and several retail businesses in downtown Pikeville.
"My father's word was his bond -you never needed to sign anything
when you dealt with him," Scott Cline said yesterday.
John S. Cline Jr.'s father -- J.S. Cline Sr., who died in 1941 -- donated
several streets to the city of Pikeville, including Cline Street. Both men
were instrumental in the early development of the city.
Cline attended Centre College in Danville and graduated from the
University of Kentucky. He was also a 1936 graduate of the University of
Louisville School of Law.
Other survivors include his wife, Marge Martin Cline; another son, John S.
Cline III of Pikeville; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. today at J.W. Call & Son Funeral Home.

PIKEVILLE - William Coleman, 56, of Covel, W.Va., formerly of Pike County,
husband of Jean Smith Coleman, died yesterday at Wyoming County Hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Louisa Primitive Baptist Church in
Millard. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Sunday at the church. Justice
Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

PIKEVILLE - Melster Venters Amburgey, 79, of Elkhorn City, a retired Pike
County teacher, sister of Blanche Venters Blair of Russell, died yesterday
at Pikeville Methodist Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at
Justice Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today.

died Thursday at Court House Manor Nursing Home, Washington Court House,
Ohio. Services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Justice Funeral Home.
Visitation will be anytime today and before services Sunday.
