The Centinel, Gettysburg, Pa , February 26, 1812

Extract of a letter, dated Georgetown, Kent., January 10, 1812

“The negros in Lexington have lately made several attempts to burn the town.  They have set fire to several factories.  There are now three condemned to be hanged.  The citizens are formed to carry arms in the night.” [Submitted by Nancy Piper]
