Andrepont, a veteran resident of this place, died
suddenly at his residence yesterday. He was
sixty-five years of age. Three sons and three
daughters survive him. Internment was in the
Catholic cemetery this morning. submitted

IOTA, LA., March 26. Mrs.
Eugene Sabatier, nee Garrigues, widow of the late
Dr. Eugene Sabatier, of this place, died
yesterday, aged 77 years. She was the daughter of
the late Judge Adolph Garrigues, and her mother
was of the Lastrapes family. Dr. Eugene Sabatier
was one of the most prominent physicians of
Lafourche Parish for many years, removing to Iota
a few years ago, dying at the age of 87 years.
There are twelve surviving children, all filling
important stations in life. Dr. George Sabatier, a
physician of New Iberia; J. A.
Sabatier, owner of a rice mill and canal here and
vice president of the Acadia Bank, at Crowley;
John and Paul Sabatier, merchants at Eton, La.;
Misses Amelia and Adele, teachers in the Iota High
School; Misses Marc, Celeste and Laura; a sister,
a nun in Mount Carmel Order at Rayne, and Mrs.
Louise Bailey, wife of an attorney in Abbeville,.
La.
Mrs. Sabatier was a Catholic. The body was taken
to Opelousas for internment.

La., Jan. 27. Mrs.
Fernand Roy died at her home here Sunday of
pneumonia following influenza. Her husband, baby
and parents survive her. Internment took place in
the
Catholic Cemetery, Father Buquet officiating.

La., June 2. Paul Trump,
a prosperous rice farmer living near Egan, Acadia parish, died Saturday. The funeral took place
Sunday, following services at the Catholic Church
here. Mr. Trump was 50 years of age. He is
survived by his widow, nee Ophelia Pousson, and
the following children: R. C. Trump, Iota; Mrs.
John Regan, Egan; Mrs. G. A. Pousson, Egan; Mrs.
Charles Lavergne, Sunset; J. R. Trump, Egan; Mrs.

La., Jan. 12. Mrs. Edna
Sandoz Sabatier, aged 33 years, died at her home
here this morning twenty-four hours after the
death of one of her twin infants. Mrs. Sabatier
was the wife of Joseph A. Sabatier, Secretary and
Treasurer of the Iota Rice Milling Company. The
remains were conveyed today to Opelousas, where internment will be made
tomorrow afternoon in the
Catholic
Cemetery.

Estherwood,
La., Nov. 26. Mrs. Tosan Lefass
of this city died at the home of her grandson,
Alderman Ovey Roy, yesterday. She was ninety-six
years old, and had resided in this parish since
birth. Mrs. Lefass is survived by a very large
family of grandchildren in

Estherwood,
La., Nov. 26. Mrs. O. Duhon,
seventy-nine years old, died in Mermentau
Wednesday. Her husband, who died some years ago,
owned the Duhon addition of the town of Mermentau. She was the mother of Charles and
Ulyssses Duhon, two prominent rice men, and of
Mrs. Felix Simon of Jennings.

La., Jan. 14. Fremeaux Istre, an
influential Creole farmer, who owned a large farm
in this parish, died at his home near Mermentau
this morning, after a long illness. He was a
native of Lafayette Parish, and was a leader among

La., May 13. Mrs. P. E. Fremaux
of
Mermentau, La., died at her home Monday after a
lingering illness. Mrs. Fremaux was twice married,
her first husband being Mr. P. Simon, and from
this union three sons survive her Felix,
Duplesis, and Philbert, all of
Jennings. No children were
born of the second marriage. The funeral took
place from the Catholic Church in Mermentau with
internment in the cemetery at that place.

here last evening, and was buried this evening in
the Protestant Cemetery. submitted

Dr. Harris came to Rayne
about four years ago from Homer, in Clarbourne
Parish, and about two years ago married Miss Mamie
Pacsou, of Rayne. He leaves a widow and infant
child. Dr. Harris was a very promising young
physician, being highly educated and thoroughly
posted in his profession. He was a member of the
Woodmen and Pythian Lodges here, and had a wide

Mouton, aged 58 years, a highly-respected citizen
of this place, died here this morning after a
lingering illness. His funeral will take place
here tomorrow morning. He was a son of former
Governor Alexander Mouton, and was born in
Lafayette Parish. He is survived by his wife and

Rayne, La., June 6. After a lingering illness of
five months, Mrs. Sophie Andrus died at her
residence at Branch La., at 12:20 oclock this evening, aged 53 years. Mrs.
Andrus was a native of Ouschira parish, and a
resident of Acadia parish for the last twenty-five years. Her husband,
Mr. Thomas P. Andrus, and three daughters and one
son Mrs. Willie Andrus, of
Crowley; Mrs. Bonie
Hoffpaulr, of Welsh; of Branch are left to
lament her death. Her internment takes place
tomorrow morning at 10 oclock, from the Plaquemine Methodist church. Her
pastor, Rev. H. N. Brown, will conduct the funeral

Rayne, La., Oct. 12. Samuel Schmulen died at his
home here today, aged 88 years. Mr. Schmulen was
born in Alsace-Lorraine in 1823, and emigrated to
this country in 1855, locating in Franklin, La.,
where he was successfully engaged in mercantile
pursuits up to the time Acadia Parish was formed,
when he moved to
Crowley, and from thence to
Rayne about six years ago, and had since resided
here. He is survived by seven children, four
daughters and three sons Mrs. M. Kahn, Mrs.
Alfred Kahn, Mrs. Florence Kahn, Miss Pauline
Schmulen, Felix Schmulen, of Crowley; Gus
Schmulen, of Lafayette, and Joe Schmulen, of

this place, died suddenly at his home here Sunday
night. He was born and reared in this section and
is a brother to Hon. E. O. Bruner, state
commissioner of agriculture. He is survived by his

Rayne, La., March 8. Mrs. Mary A. Cunningham, aged
65 years, died here this afternoon at 5:30 oclock after an illness of only a few days. She was
born in
Conecuh County, Ala. She was married to Dr. William H.
Cunningham in 1868, and removed to
Rayne,
La., in 1888. Her husband founded
the town of
Rayne. Mrs. Cunningham
leaves two sons and four daughters Dr. E. C.
Cunningham, Mrs. Cliff Power, Mrs. W. C. Chevis,
Mrs. R. C. Holt, Jr., and Miss Nellie Cunningham.

Rayne, La., March 9. Mrs. Mary A. Cunningham died
here yesterday evening at
5:30, after an illness of only four
days duration. Wednesday morning when she awoke
it was found that she had a severe case of
pneumonia, and from the first it was feared that
it would be fatal. The best of medical science
availed nothing and she passed away quietly
yesterday.
Mrs. Cunningham was born in Conecuh County, Ala.,
Aug. 20, 1888. She
was for several years a resident of
New Orleans, La.,
and moved to
Scott, La., during the Civil War. In 1880 she, with
her husband, Dr. Cunningham, moved to Rayne and
were probably the first to build a residence in
the town. Her husband died soon after and for
twenty years she has been the leading woman in the
community. She was a consistent member of the
Methodist Church and always abounded in charitable
deeds. She has benefited the community in various
ways by public donations to city buildings,
schools and churches, both white and colored.
Being such a pious and public-spirited citizen,
she will be sadly missed by the entire town.
Mrs. Cunningham
leaves six children and an aged mother to mourn
her loss. Her mother, Grandma Robinson, is an
octogenarian. Her children are Mrs. W. C. Chevis
and Mrs. Powers, of New Orleans; Mrs. R. C. Holt, Jr., and Miss
Nellie Cunningham, of Rayne; and Drs. Robert and
Marvin Cunningham. All are an honor to the noble
mother that gave them to her country.The remains
will be buried in the Protestant Cemetery

Rites Are Held Wednesday Night For Tom Morris

Funeral services for Thomas (Tommy} Harris, 49
year old pressman fur The Las Cruces-Sun News, are
to be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in
Crowley, Louisiana. He died here at 8:30 on
Tuesday night at the Memorial General hospital
following a stroke suffered earlier in the
afternoon while preparing for publishing .the
afternoon edition of the daily paper. Brief
services were conducted here at the Second Baptist
Church with Rev. Samuel Swisher in charge on
Wednesday" night. A large number of the friends he
had made during his six year residence in Las
Cruces were present to pay him final tribute.
Leaves Today
The body is leaving Las Cruces at 12:30
for El Paso and will be shipped via the Southern
Pacific to Crowley. Louisiana his former home.
Membere of the family left Las Cruces early
Thursday morning for Louisiana. His body is being
accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. Lillian Wood.
Morris was born in Washington. La., February 11,
1903 but had lived for many years at Crowley.
Survivors Listed Besides his wife, Anna .Mae; he is
survived by two daughters, Lilian and Jo Anne, two sons,
Harold and Tommie; ono grandson, Donald Lee Wood, Crowley,
La.; md two brothers, Albert of Opepusas, La., and Willis of
Crowley, La. The Nelson Funeral home was in harge of
arrangements here. The Byers Funeral home will be in charge of
arrangements and burial in Crowley. Thursday. March 26, 1953
