| Order No.
399.
Village Of Kinder vs.
Charles F. Howell. 6 La. R. C. R. 58. No. 481.
Petition filed
September 29, 1904. Hearing at New Orleans,
October 7, 1904.
It appears that
Charles F. Howell, defendant in this case,
operates a telephone exchange at Kinder, La.,
and charges subscribers five dollars per month
for the service, which includes connections
and service with all subscribers to the
Cumberland Telephone & Telegraph Company's
system at Lake Charles, La., a distance of
some thirty miles. It also appears that the
village of Kinder contains but a few hundred
people, and that the defendant has but nine
subscribers there.
The Commission
considers the charge made by defendant
reasonable for the service rendered, and does
not believe that the local service would be
compensatory at any reduction in the rates,
as, deprived of the Lake Charles connections,
the service would be practically valueless. It
is therefore,
Ordered, That the
petition be denied and the case is dismissed.
