Natchitoches Parish was created by the act of April 10, 1805 that divided
the Orleans Territory into 12 parishes, including Orleans, Iberville,
Rapides and Natchitoches.
The parish is one of the largest in land area in the state and was named
for an Indian tribe
The parish seat is Natchitoches, which is also the biggest city
The City of Natchitoches was established in 1714 by Louis Juchereau de St.
Denis, making it the oldest permanent settlement in the Louisiana Purchase
territory.
