New Orleans, Dec. 6 1823
On Monday last about 9 miles before Lafeouene, the steam boat Mars bound to Wachitan with about $6000 dollars worth of goods on board, suddenly filled with water and went down – but little was saved.

The steam boat Tennessee, Capt. Campbell, was entirely lost on the 8th ultimo, 180 miles above Natchez, on her way from New Orleans to Louisville. No part of the cargo was saved and upwards of 30 passengers drowned, among whom were Mr. J. Maybin of Philadelphia, Mr. Nouvell of Lexington, Mr. J. W. Poole of Balitmore and Mr. Caruthers of Tennessee – Frank. Gaz.
