A Bloodless Duel New Orleans, La Aug. 15- Special The people of St. John the Baptist Parish, above this city, were yesterday thrown in a state of excitement because of a duel that took place between two african gentlemen named Gustave Victor and Jacquot Jean Louis. They had a personal encounter several days ago, and the affair culminated yesterday morning by a hostile meeting on the banks of the Mississippi at the quiet little spot of Edgar. They were accompanied by their seconds, who brought with them double barreled shot guns. Honor had to be appeased, so two shots were exchanged. Neither suffered injury. The seconds declared that honor had been satisfied, and the affair ended in the usual manner.
