FINAL RITES HELD FOR MRS. AGNES HOLAND, 81 AUG 1978 The funeral of Mrs. Agnes Holland, 81, of Oak Grove, was held at 2 p.m., Saturday in Goodwill Church of God with the Rev. Sam Germany officiating Burial was in Redwing cemetery under the direction of Kidder-Cox Funeral Home.Mrs. Holland died Thrusday in West Carroll hospital after a lengthy illness.Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Audrey Porter of Oak Grove; one sister, Mrs. Myrt McCowan, of Oak Grove; two brothers, Hub Sanders of Odessa, Texas and Earl Sanders of Oak Grove; two grandchildren and six great grandchildren.Pallbearers were Donald McIntyre, Herman Smith, Billy Sanders, Chris Elms, John L. HOLLAND, 72 expires on Monday; buried at Redwing APR 1963 Funeral services weere held Tuesday afternoon from the Goodwill Church of God for Jim H. Holland, 72, who died Monday in a Lake Providence hospital.Mr. Holland was a native of West Carroll Parish and had resided here throughout his life. Suvivors include his widow, Mrs. Agnes Holland, a daughter, Mrs. Gerald Porter of Goodwill; five sisters, Mrs. Florence Pevytoe, Mrs. Josie Russell, Mrs. Betty Irby, all of Oak Grove, Mrs. Edith Bennett of Mer Rouge and Mrs. Ruthie Orr of Monroe, a brother, George Holland of Canyonville, Ore. and two granddaughters.Pallbearers were Mack McIntosh, James Dumas, Victor Wright, Harold West and Everett Kennedy. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- R.L. HOLLAND IS INSTANTLY KILLED WHEN AUTO GOES INTO DITCH OCT 1830 R.L. Holland, 59, a citizen of Oak Grove for the past twenty years and a citizen of West Carroll parish since birth, was instantly killed one mile and one-half south of Terry and approximately three miles and one-half north of Oak Grove, Tuesday Afternoon, around four o'clock, when the model T Ford car in which he was riding with John B. Monroe, also an Oak Grove citizan, struck loose gravel and turned off a five foot embankment into a ditch. The car turned over and pinned both occupants underneath. Holland's neck was broken, Mr. Monroe was badly bruised up and received major cuts on the head. He was not seriously injured. They were driving toward Oak Grove with Mr. Monroe at the wheel when the fatilty occured. Both were pinned under the car, and according to Mr. Monroe, they had been there for fifteen or twenty minutes before he could attract anybodys attention. J.F. Jones, a farmer, living near Terry, who was on his route home, passed by the wreck in his wagon and heard loud shreiks and cries. He immediatly made investigation and found Mr. Holland was already dead and Mr. Monroe was held captive by the wrecked auto. It was only a few minuets before A.V. Moore, cotton buyer, passed by and with his assistance the occupants were released. Mr. Monroe was rushed into a car and was immediatly brought to Oak Grove where he was administered medical attention. Mr. Holland haaas been in the hotel business here for the past twenty years and was well known by traveling men generally. He was prominent in West Carroll business activities. He was amember of the Oak Grove masonic lodge. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Misses Noami, Alene and Eddie Bee, besides a sister, Mrs. J.E. Dickinson of Doyline, La. Funeral services were held at his home, Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock with Rev. A.S.J. Neill, pastor of the local Methodist church presiding. The Masons took charge of the body after the home services and he was entered with masonic ceremonies in Oak Grove cemetery. A large congreation of friends and relatives attended the services. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MRS. G.W. HOLLAND SUCCUMBS THRUSDAY JUNE 1956 Funeral arrangements were incomplete here today for Mrs. Sarah Jane Holland, 63, of Goodwill, who died in a Monroe hospital this morning. Services will be held at the Goodwill Church of God with the Rev. M.W. Kennedy, pastor, and the Rev. Dan Green officiating. Interment will follow in the Red Wing cemetery under direction of Gay's Funeral Home. Mrs. Holland is survived by her husband, G.W.; two sons, Lee Holland of Eureka, Calif., and W.L. Holland, San Francisco, Calif., three daughters, Mrs. Erna Barr, of Glide, Ore.,Mrs. Alma Dawden of Tilly, Ore., Mrs. Lillian Sasser, of Oak Grove; a brother, Alex Strong, of Monroe; a sister, Mrs. Susie Pickett, of Epps; 15 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THOMAS G. HOOPER July 1952 Last rites were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Floyd Methodist church for Thomas G. Hooper, 68, of Rayville, who died Monday night. The Rev. J.S. Deal, of Star and the Rev. Earl Emmerich, of Rayville, officiated. Interment was in Hooper Cemetery under direction of Catron- Gay Funeral Home of Delhi. He is survived by a brother, Bob Hooper of Floyd; five sisters, Mrs. Susie Golden of Rayville, Mrs. Kate Brown of Floyd, Mrs Carey Tillman of Pioneer, Mrs Josie Cockrell of Perry, and Mrs. Margaret Wates. Pallbearers were W.H. Holly, W. Brown, Huey Ragus, R.S. Hooper, J.L. Mills and N.N. Southern.
Mrs. Betty Irby, 64, Interred at Redwing MAY 1963 Last rites were conducted Sat. at 2 p.m. from the Mt. Zion Church of God for Mrs. Betty Irby, 64, of Oak Grove, who died last Wed. in a Monroe Hospital. The Rev. Paul Lett officated at the rites. Interment was in Redwing Cemetery under direction of Gays Funeral Home. Suvivors include her husband, J.R. Irby, 3 sons, Benny Irby of Oak Grove, J.W. Irby of Burus, Sammy Irby of Prosser, Washington, 7 daughters, Mrs. Francis Collum of Oak Grove, Mrs. Zelma Russ of Alto Loona, Texas Mrs. Gwendolyn Morcantel, Mrs. Ercie Lee Gary both of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Rosa Lee Collums of Port Arthur, Texas, Mrs Mary Coggins and Mrs Betty Roberts of Orange, Texas. HOLD RITES FOR MRS. JENKINS; BURIED AT REDWING 6 Nov 1878 - 30 July 1967 Funeral rites for Mrs. Elizabeth Catherine Jenkins, 88, of Oak Grove were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday from the chapel of First National Funeral home here. Mrs. Jenkins expired early Sunday afternoon at West Carroll Hospital following a lengthy illness. The Rev. D. Smith and the Rev. M.W. Kennedy officiated at the rites. Interment was in Redwing Cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Isabelle Smith of Oak Grove; five sons, Jess McCullough and J.C. McCullough of Oak Grove, John H. McCullough of Richland, Wash., J.D. McCullough of Pioneer, and Arthur McCullough of Arcadia, Calif.; a step-daughter, Mrs. Carrie Hammontree of Bastrop; two sisters, Mrs. Emily Greer of Oak Grove and Mrs. Amanda Wicker of Los Angles, Calif., 36 grandchildren; a host of great-grand- children and two great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were James Strong, Basil McLemore, Bliss Green, Victor Wright, Ben Bennett and B.E. McIntyre.
