DEATH NOTICE:
In Westbrook, August 10, at his home, 864 Main Street, Raffaele Amadei, aged 84 years'
Funeral Saturday morning at 8:30 o'clock from 795 Main Street.  High Mass of Requiem at 9:15 o'clock in St. Mary's chuch.  Interment in Calvary Cemetery.

CLARKE, Ephraim



DIED ---At Cape-Elizbeth on Monday evening last, the Rev. EPHRAIM CLARKE, in the 76th year o fhis age.  His funeral will be Tomorrow at half past 1 o' clock, P.M. at his late dwelling house--from whence the procession will move to the Meeting house, and a Discourse will be delivered on the occasion, by the Rev. Tristram Gilman, of North Yarmouth.  The friends and acquaintance to the deceased are requested to attend without further invitation.

Funeral of the late Judge Gorham
Portland Gazette, Monday, July 30, 1804

On Wednesday last, the remains of the Hon. William Gorham were committed to the grave.  A number of citizens of the town of Portland and of other towns, joined those of the town of Gorham, to manifest their last token of respect for their departed friend.  The procession was extensive.  Besides those who followed the corpse on horseback and on foot, there were upwards of seventy carriages.  The order of the procession was as follows:

The Clergy.
Justices of the County.
Gentlemen of the Bar.
The Sheriff.

     The procession moved from the mansion of the deceased (that place which once knew him, but will hereafter know him no more) about half after three.
     The corpse was carried to the meeting house, about two miles distant where the following services were well performed, viz:
A Funeral Hymn, by a choir belonging to the Parish.
A prayer by the Rev. Mr. Noyes.
An Eulogy by the Rev. Mr. Hilliard.

     The corpse was thence borne to the Grave, followed by the mourners in the same order, and was deposited about half past six o’clock.  There is must rest until the voice of the archangel and the trump of God shall at his command call it forth at the genereal resurrection.

 J Stanley Guevin


Obit: Portland, ME:
J Stanley Guevin, 59, of 248 Pleasant Ave., died Saturday in a local hospital after a brief illness.  Born April 6, 1909, Mr. Guevin lived in Portland throughout his life.  He was the son of Louis H and Maude Bimson Guevin.
Mr. Guevin attented local schools and later enrolled at the Catholic Institute. He was employed by the Severn-Wylie-Jewett Co as a linotype operator for many years.  Mr. Guevin was a communicant of St Joseph's Church, a charter member of the Portland Fire Buffs, Box 61 and a member of the Msgr. Houlihan Council K of C. During World War II he served with the 3rd Armored Division in Europe.

Mr. Guevin is survived by one sister, Mrs. Joseph Sanborn, with whom he resided; four nieces and nephews; 14 grandnieces and grandnephews, and several cousins.
Prayers will be said at the Conroy Funeral Home, 172 State St, at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, followed by a concelebrated High Mass of Requiem in St Joseph's Church at 10 a.m.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Maud Bimson Guevin

Obit: PORTLAND, ME:
Maud M Guevin of 243 Pleasant Avenue, widow of Louis H. Guevin, in Portland, August 9, at her residence.
Funeral Saturday morning at 8:30 am, Solemn High Mass aof Requiem in St Joseph's Church at 9 am.  Members of the St Joseph's Women's Sodality Council will meet a 8 o'clock Friday evening at the residence for recitation of the Rosary. Members of St Elizabeth Circle D of L will meet at her home for prayers Friday at 8:30pm.

Mrs Guevin was born Maud Stoddart Bimson on September 16, 1875 in Nantwich, Cheshire, England

Irene Guevin Feeney



Obit: Portland,  ME:
Mrs. Irene M Feeney, 72, widow of John Feeney and a resident of 30 Lafayette St, died Saturday night in a local hospital after a short illness.
Born May 13, 1903, in Portland, she was the daughter of  the late Frank and Ida Guevin.  Educated in local schools and a graduate of Cathredral Highschool, she resided in Portland all of her life.  She was a communicant of the Cathredral of the Immaculate Conception.
Mr. Feeney died in 1942.
She is survived by a son, Herbert W Feeney of Forty Fort, PA; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and two nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30am today at 749 Congress St. with a Mass of Christian gburial at 10 in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery

Agnes E Guevin

Obit: PORTLAND, ME:
Agnes E Guevin, 82, of Brighton Ave, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, Jan 30, 2004, at Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.
In 1921 Mrs. Guevin was born to an extended Irish immigrant family that resided in the Newbury Street area of Portland, at the base of Mynjoy Hill.  After graduating from Cathedral High School in 1939,  Mrs. Guevin was employed with the A&P Bakery on Kennebec Street.  It was there she met Ronald, her husband to be.  They were married after his return from World War II in 1945.  With the death of her husband in 1983, Mrs. Guevin focused her attention on her family.  She is predeceased by an infant daughter, Barbara Guevin, in 1952; two sisters, Shelley Mellon and Mary Lebeda; a brother Joseph Foley; and her husband, Ronaldo Guevin.
She leaves two sons, Edward J Guevin and his wife, Phyllis, and Ronald Guevin, both of Portland; a sister, Theresea Arich of Portland; and four grandchildren, Johanna, Ronald, Heidi, and Shanna.
Visiting hours will be held Monday, February 2, from 4 to 7 pm at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St.  Prayers will be recited Wednesday at 9:15am at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St Joseph's Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, Portland.

Joseph J Sanborn
Date: April 7, 1964
Portland, ME:

Joseph J Sanborn, 64, of 28 James St., a railroad signalman, died at his home Monday after a short illness.
He was born in Portland, April 5, 1900, son of Charles A and Catherine Leonard Sanborn.  He attented local school and was a lifelong resident here.
He was employed by the Maine Central Railroad and had been a signalman for 19 years.  He was a communicant of St Joseph's Church and a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen.  He served in the Navy in WWI.
Besides his widow, the former Mary E Guevin, he is survived by two daughters, Sister Mary Josefa, S.SM, Oahu, Hawaii; and Mrs. Blair (Mary Lou) Higgins, Portland; two sons, Joseph J Sanborn, Jr., Cornwall, Ont., and Stanley E Sanborn, Portland; a sister, Mrs. Peter G Phillippe, Portsmouth, NH, 10 grandchildren and four nephews.
The funeral from 172 State St at 8:15 a.m. Thursday will be followed by a Solemn Requiem Mass at 9 a.m. in St Joseph's Church.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery

 Mary E Guevin Sanborn



Obit: PORTLAND, ME
Mary E Sanborn, a teacher and community volunteer, of 271 Woodfort St, died Wednesday in a local hospital after a brief illness.  She was 89.
Born in Portland, a daughter of Louis H and Maud (Bimson) Guevin, she graduated from Cathedral High School in 1921 and St Joseph's Normal School in 1923.
Mrs. Sanborn began teaching at St Dominic's Grammar School in Portland right after high school said her daughter, Eileen Sanborn.
Mrs. Sanborn made a career of teaching, working as a primary and kindergarten teacher for the Sisters of Mercy at St Dominic's Cathedral and for 15 years at St. Patrick's School.
Mrs. Sanborn was a comminicant of St Joseph's Church.  She was a member of St Joseph's Sodality Council, director of St Joseph's Junion Choir and a member of the Senior  Choir.  She was also a member of Cathedral & Cheverus High School Mothers Club, a volunteer at St Elizabeth's Home for Children, and a member of the Cathedral Choristers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J Sanborn, Sr. and a daughter, Mary Lou Higgins.  Surviving are two sons, Joseph J Sanborn, Jr. of Cornwall, Ontario, and Sanley E Sanborn of Sebago Lake; a daughter, Eileen F Sanborn of Portland, with whom she made her home; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Prayers will be recited at 10:15 am Monday in Chapel A of Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St Joseph's Catholic Church.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.

Marguerite B. Schofield

Marguerite B. Schofield homemaker, worked briefly at Sylvania SEBAGO LAKE,-

Marguerite B. Schofield, 75, of Route 114 died Monday at a Bridgton health care center. She was born in Portland, a daughter of William H. Kilton and Annie B. Roberts Kilton and attended Portland schools. Mrs. Schofield was a homemaker and had worked briefly at Sylvania in Standish. Her husband, Arthur F. Schofield, died in 1979.

Surviving are two sons William L. of Caribou and Thomas A. Schofield of Sebago Lake; a daughter, Dawn Marie Stephens of Newport, N. C.; two brothers, Milford of Freeport and Francis Kilton of Ocean Park at Old Orchard Beach; a sister Muriel Zankofsky of Sanford, Fla. seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services and burial will be in Carteret Memorial Cemetery, Beaufort, N. C. Local arrangements are by Dolby and Dorr Funeral chapel.Gorham.

Mrs. Ellen Almirah Scott

Died, at Portland, Me., Nov. 21, Mrs. Ellen Almirah Scott, in the 36th year of her age. Mrs. Scott had been a member of the Colored Congregational Church about thirteen months. She was received into the church by the Rev. A.G. Beman, while on a visit to this place. In her life she was exemplary and devoted, commending to all who knew her the beauty and excellency of religion, - in her death, peaceful and triumphant.

Mark S. Whitehouse, 46, of Manchester, son of Carl and Sally Whitehouse of North Windham, passed away Friday, July 24, 2009 at Manchester Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister Katerry Desrosiers and her husband Andy and their daughter Katie all of Manchester.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Whitehouse. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate his life will be held at his parent’s home, 4 Short Lane, North Windham on August 8, 2009 beginning at 12 noon. The Potter Funeral Home, Willimantic assisted with arrangements.
