PENOBSCOT COUNTY MAINE HISTORY

Act to Incorporate Lincoln

To the Honorable the Senate & House of Representatives of the State of Maine in legislature assembled,

The individual Inhabitants of th river townships numbered two and three in the County of Penobscot, North of the Bing-hous(ham) Purchase, respectfully represent that they suffer many & great inconveniences arising from a want of the power to raise money for the support of schools, repairs of roads, and other purposes, incident to incorporated towns; that the village of Mattanawisok is situated on the line between said townships, where all the roads leading through them center. They herefore pray that the said Townships, and the half-township granted by the legislature of Massachusetts to Joseph E. Foxcroft-esquire, with the inhabitants thereof, may be incorporated into a town by the name of Lima.
