SHAVER-RIPPARD
3 Oct 1902 --- The Baltimore news of Thursday has the following:
A very pretty dahlia wedding, the first of the kind in Baltimore, took place
at Lafayette Square Presbyterian church at 7 o'clock last evening, when Miss
Kate Linden Rippard, daughter of George Stewart Rippard,of 2429 West North
avenue, was married to Ralph Warren Shaver of Kingston, Pa. Rev. L. S. Fulmer
of the First Presbyterian church of Montclaire, N.J., former pastor of the
Lafayette Square church of this city, officiated. The floral decorations
were almost exclusively of dahlias. In front of the pulpit was a large arch
of these pink and white blossoms, under which the bride and groom passed
while the ceremony was performed under an immense bell constructed of the
same flowers. The artistically arranged background of potted dahlias and
palms greatly added to the general effect. The bridesmaids formed in front
of the pulpit and walked down the aisle, meeting the bride as she entered
with her father and preceded her to the head of the church, where she met
the groom, attended by his best man, Meade Rippard, brother of the bride.
The bride's gown was of acolian cloth trimmed with duchess lace and was over
silk. Her veil was of tulle and she carried white dahlias tied with white
ribbons. The maid of honor, Miss Helen Watkins Rippard, sister of the bride
wore white silk mull, trimmed with white lace, a pink crepe de chine sash,
and she carried white dahlias, tied with pink ribbons. The ring-bearer, Miss
Wilhelmina Newell Rippard, the little 7 year old cousin of the bride, wore
Paris muslin. The bridesmaids wore white organdie trimmed with white ribbon
and they carried pink dahlias tied with white ribbons. They were Miss Clara
Clyntonia Grapel, Miss Sallye Mae Boyd, Miss Gertrude Spence and Miss Laura
J. McKinley. The ushers were Eugene H. Sapp, Tazwell H. Thomas and Frank
I. Remmell and H. Raymond-Shaver, both of Kingston, Pa. After the ceremony
a reception was held in the home of the bride's father and later in the evening
the couple left for a wedding journey. Among the out-of-town guests were:
Mrs. W.H. Shaver and Miss Emily Tye of Kingston, Pa.; Miss Susan C. Hunt,
of Wilkes-Barre; Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Twaddell of Philadelphia: Miss Emily
Clotworthy, of New York; Senor Frederico Vall-Spinosa of San Juan, Porto
Rico; Mr. and Mrs. M. V. Richards of Washington; and Mrs. L. S. Fulmer, of
Montclaire, N. J.
4 Dec 1902 -- Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Shaver, who were recently married, have
taken up their residence in Kingston (PA).
