The Balitmore Whig of July 4th states, that the oldest inhabitants of that place declare, that they never witnessed
as many sudden deaths in the same space of time (except during the epidemic) as last week. We have heard of twelve
of those instant exits, all occasioned by extreme heat, or its consequences. Temperance now seems necessary to
existence - and temperance now, may consist in avoiding the temparation of swallowing large doses of cold water.
The thermometer has been as high at times last week as 98 degrees [The Centinel (Gettysburg,

At 8 o'clock this morning the thermometer showed 91 degrees, 3 degrees higher than at the same time yesterday.
