Horrid
The Rockville True American, relates a most shocking murder, which was committed in Montgomery county, Md., on the 6th inst. Major N. Musgrove, residing near Unity, was shot by his son-in-law Alexander Duvall. A controversy about a servant is said to have produced this awful transaction. It is stated that every precaution is used by the murderer’s friends to prevent his apprehension, in the hope that by the influence of wealth or personal favour, his pardon may be affected. -- Fred. The editor of the Rockville (Md.) Republican, cautions the typographical fraternity to be on their guard against a certain Henry T. Smith who absconded on the night of the 22d ult., without paying his newspaper bill. This is the only revenge we have and if the rascals will leave the printer in the lurch, it is but fair that they should be published. – Penn. Intel.

Unfortunate Occurrence
On Sunday last Captain Wm. Beckwith and Basil Duvall, both respectable citizens of our county met at Thomas L. Higgin’s tavern; after drinking together for some time, a dispute ensued in consequence of the lie being given as we have been informed by Mr. Duvall. Whereupon Mr. Beckwith made at Mr. Duvall and struck him. Mr. Duvall drew his knife and stabbed Mr. Beckwith in eight or ten different places. Mr. Duvall was immediately arrested; he entered into recognizance for his appearance at the present term of our country court.
From the last accounts we had from Mr. Beckwith, he was still alive; but it is doubtful whether he will recover, his left jugular vein having been cut and he received several stabs in the side, which the Doctor says may prove mortal.
