Name Changes in Barnstable County Massachusetts
An act to change the names of Joseph Sprague Stearns, John Parker, and Jedediah Baker the third. Be it enacted, etc., as follows: That from and after the passing of this act, Joseph Sprague Stearns, of Salem, in the county of Essex, son of William Stearns, shall be allowed to take the name of Joseph Sprague; that John Parker, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk, son of Isaac Parker, shall be allowed to take the name of John Williams Parker; that Jedediah Baker the third, of Yarmouth, in the county of Barnstable, shall be allowed to take the name of Washington Baker; and said persons shall in future, be respectively known and called by the names which they are respectively allowed to take as aforesaid, and the same shall be considered as their only proper names to all intents and purposes. (June 19, 1801) An act to change the name of Bela Snow. Be it enacted, etc., as follows: That Bela Snow, son of the late Sylvanus Snow, of Brewster, in the county of Barnstable, deceased, be and he hereby is allowed to take the name of Sylvanus Snow; and that he shall be in future known and called by the name which he is so allowed to take as aforesaid, and the same shall be considered as his only proper name to all intents and purposes. ( November 22, 1804) An act to change the names of persons therein mentioned. Be it enacted, etc., as follows: That Luke Baker, of Chatham, may take the name of Luke Clark Baker; of the county of Barnstable. (March 27, 1833)

Be it enacted, etc., as follows: Ruthy Chase, wife of Lysander Chase, of Yarmouth, may take the name of Ruth Chase Jonathan Franch Whorf, of Provincetown, may take the name of Charles Francis Whorf Polly Bassett Fairfield, of Yarmouth, may take the name of Mary Bassett Fairfield Tabitha Atwood, of Brewster, may take the name of Abby Atwood Marshal Underwood, of Dennis, may take the name of Marshall Sears Underwood Mary Helan Wixson, of Dennis, minor, may take the name of Susan Helan Wixson Joseph Baker, a minor, of Dennis, may take the name of Joseph Kelley Baker; all of the county of Barnstable.
