Name Changes in Berkshire County Massachusetts
An act to change the name of James Cody to the name of James Cody Apthorp. Be it enacted, etc., as follows: That from and after the passing this act, James Cody, of Partridgefield, in the county of Berkshire, be, and he hereby is authorized and allowed to take, use and bear the name of James Cody Apthorp, and by that name to be forever hereafter known and called in all processes and records whatsoever. (June 9, 1797) An act to alter the name of Jeremiah Williams to the name of Jeremiah Wadsworth Williams. Be it enacted, etc., as follows: That from and after the passing this act, Jeremiah Williams, of Dalton, in the county of Berkshire, shall be, and he hereby is authorized and empowered to take, bear, and use the name of Jeremiah Wadsworth Williams, and shall be called and known by that name forever hereafter. (February 21, 1799) An act to change the names of persons therein mentioned. Be it enacted, etc., as follows: That Hosea C. Bancroft, of Stockbridge, may take the name of George C. Bancroft that Partridge Snow, of Becket, may take the name of Seneca Lorenzo Snow; all of the county of Berkshire. (March 22, 1834)
An act to change the names of the person therein mentioned. Be it enacted, etc., as follows: King Williams, of Stockbridge, to take the name of King Sacket Williams Charity Johnson, of Becket, may take the name of Charity Whitemore; all of the county of Berkshire. (April 16, 1846)

Be it enacted, etc., as follows: Joseph Crosier Gallub, of Adams, may take the name of Joseph Crosier Marsdale his wife, Laura Jane, and their four minor children, Edwin Ruthven, Althine Idalia, Francelia Blandina, and Gerald Embert, may severally take the names of Laura Jane Marsdale, Edwin Ruthven Marsdale, Althine Idalia Marsdale, Francelia Blandina Marsdale, and Gerald Embert Marsdale Henry Bliss, of Adams, may take the name of Henry Clay Bliss James Willow Cotton, a minor, of Hancock, may take the name of James Porter White; all of the county of Berkshire. (April 26, 1847)
