Old Burying Point Cemetery
(aka Charter Street Cemetery)
Old Burying Point or the Charter Street Cemetery is the oldest cemetery in Salem, and the second oldest known cemetery in the country, started in 1637. It is located on Charter St. next to the Witch Trials Memorial.

JOSEPH HART JR. - b. Aug 8, 1775. d. Oct 17, 1845, age 70y, 2m, 12d

Joseph Hart Jr (Joseph, Thomas, Adam, Isaac) was born in Fitchburg, Mass., Aug. 8, 1775, oldest son of Joseph and Ann (Dix) Hart; m. at Salem, Mar. 18, 1798, Jane Simmons of Salem. She died in Lynn, Nov. 4, 1854, age 76 years, daughter of Mrs.Elizabeth Simmons. Mr. Hart resided in Salem and Reading, and finally settled in Topsfield, Mass., a painter by trade. He died Oct.17, 1845, age 70 years, 2 months, and 12 days. The Topsfield records say he was born in Fitchburg, son of Joseph and Anna_____ Hart.
