Norfolk County, Massachusetts Name Changes

An act to change the name of John Murdock, of Roxbury, in the County of Norfolk, to the name of Robert Pierpont.  Whereas Hannah Pierpont, of Roxbury aforesaid, hath petitioned this court, for certain reasons set forth in her petition, that the name of John Murdock, of said Roxbury, may be changed and altered to the name of Robert Pierpont, and the said John Murdock hath assented to and joined in said prayer: Therefore, Be it enacted, etc., as follows: That from and after the passing of this act, the said John Murdock shall be, and he hereby is authorized and impowered to take, use and bear the name of Robert Pierpont, instead of the said name John Murdock, and to be called and known by that name, instead of his present Christian and surname. An act to change the name of Gideon Thayer to Gideon Latimer Thayer.  Be it enacted, etc., as follows: That from and after the passing of this act, Gideon Thayer, of Braintree, in the county of Norfolk, son of the Honorable Ebenezer Thayer, of said town, be, and he hereby is authorized and allowed to take, use and bear the name of Gideon Latimer Thayer, and by that name to be hereafter known and called in all processes and records whatever.  (February 16, 1799)

An act altering the name of Oliver Pond, 3d, to Oliver N. Pond.  Be it enacted, etc., as follows: That from and after the passing of this act, Oliver Pond, the third of that name of Franklin, in the county of Norfolk, be, and he hereby is authorized and allowed to take, use and bear the name of Oliver N. Pond, and by that name be hereafter known and called in all processes and records whatever.  (June 14, 1799)

An act to change the name of Charles Cabot to that of Charles George Cabot.  Be it enacted, etc., as follows: That Charles Cabot, of Brookline, in the county of Norfolk, merchant, son of George Cabot, of the same place, Esquire, be, and he hereby is authorized to take and bear the name of Charles George Cabot; and by that name shall henceforth be known and called.  (June 13, 1800)

An act to change the names of Billy Hager, Silvanus Coleman the third, Alexander McLeod Clark, John Tyler, Rodolphus Stratton, James Allen, and John Parkman.  Be it enacted, etc., as follows: That from and after the passing of this act, Billy Hager, of Marlborough, in the county of Middlesex, son of William Hager, of said Marlborough, shall be allowed to take the name of William Hager; that Silvanus Coleman, the third of that name, of Nantucket, in the county of Nantucket, son of Jonathan Coleman, of said Nantucket, shall be allowed to take the name of Davis Coleman; the Alexander McLeod Clark, of Medfield, in the county of Norfolk, son of Elias Clark, of said Medfield, shall be allowed to take the name of Alexander Clark; that John Tyler, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk, son of John Tyler, late of Mendon, in the county of Worcester, deceased, shall be allowed to take the name of John Eugene Tyler; that Rodolphus Stratton, of Northfield, in the county of Hampshire, shall be allowed to take the name of Adolphus Smith; that James Allen of Boston, in the county of Suffolk, son of Thomas Allen, of Pasquetank county, in the state of North Carolina, shall be allowed to take the name of James Armour Allen; and that John Parkman, of said Boston, son of William Parkman, of Concord, in the county of Middlesex, shall be allowed to take the name of John Augustus Parkman; and said persons shall in future be respectively known and called by the names which they are respectively allowed to take as aforesaid, and the same shall be considered as their only proper names, to all intents and purposes.  (March 7, 1801)

An act to alter the names of certain persons therein mentioned.  Be it enacted, etc., as follows: That from and after the passing of this act, Breck Brigham, of Worcester, in the county of Worcester, shall be allowed to take the name of Robert Breck Brigham; and that John Ambourlain, of Roxbury, in the county of Norfolk, a minor and ward of Martin Brimmer, shall be allowed to take the name of John A. Brimmer; and that William Orne, a minor, a son of William Orne, of Salem, in the county of Essex, be allowed to take the name of William Putnam Orne; and that William Gray, a minor, son of William Gray, Jun., of Salem, be allowed to take the name of William Rufus Gray: and said persons shall in future be respectively known and called by the names which they are respectively allowed to take as aforesaid, and the same shall be considered as their only proper names to all intents and purposes.  (June 23, 1802)

An act to change the names of persons therein mentioned.  Be it enacted, etc., as follows:

That Benjamin Frost Cutter, of Brookline, may take the name of Benjamin Franklin Cutter

that Henry Peirce, and Edward Peirce, minor sons of Jesse Peirce, of Stoughton, may severally take the names of Henry Lillie Peirce, and Edward Lillie Peirce

that Joseph Kendall, of Dorchester, may take the name of Edward Joseph Kendall; all of the county of Norfolk.

An act to change the names of persons therein mentioned.  Be it enacted, etc., as follows:

That Nathaniel Webster, of Dorchester, may take the name of Nathaniel Francis Webster

that Ichabod Holbrook, of Dorchester, may take the name of Clarendon Gorham Holbrook

that St. Medard Holbrook, of Dorchester, may take the name of George Holbrook

that Joanna Bates, of Cohasset, a minor daughter of Samuel Bates, may take the name of Joanna Nichols Bates

that Charles George Glover, a minor son of Stephen Glover, of Roxbury, may take the name of George Stephen Glover; all of the county of Norfolk.

Harlows Whitney, jun., of Wrentham, may take the name of Gustavus H. Whitney

Augustine Joshua Bryant, of Milton, may take the name of Augustus Bryant

Ferdinand Clark, of Roxbury, may take the name of Ferdinand Nimrod Clark

Josephine Friedham Wright, adopted daughter of J. W. Parkhurst, of Dedham, may take the name of Mary Josephine Parkhurst

Margaret Howe Brown, of Dorchester, may take the name of Margaret Howe; all of the county of Norfolk.

Elizabeth Baxter, minor, of Quincy, may take the name of Elizabeth Lydia Baxter

Roby Lydston, of Roxbury, may take the name of Alfred Henry Lydston; all of the county of Norfolk.
