Snowflake

Antrim County MI

Located in Antrim County was a post office with an intertesting name of SNOWFLAKE and was established on May 6, 1879. It was discontinued on October 26, 1881, but was re-established on January 12, 1882. It was permanently discontinued on February 28, 1901; with mail service to Central Lake.

William W. Johnson was named postmaster of the SNOWFLAKE Post Office, both when it was originally established and then again upon its re-establishment.

William W. Johnson was postmaster for the duration of the SNOWFLAKE Post Office except from July 27, 1892 to July 27, 1893 when William R. Thomas was postmaster.

The interesting postmaster marking at SNOWFLAKE is shown in my story.

It is rather significant that the only postmarks from this post office are either on postcards advertising trees and shrubs for sale by Postmaster Johnson on covers bearing his advertising corner card. The postmarks appear in purple with no killer. Normally this postmark does not have an accompaying killer. This particular killer on this postal card may have been added on seperately from the postmark.
