VERA HOOD ASHMUN - Funeral services for the late Mrs. Vera G. Ashmun were held Saturday afternoon at White-Emerson Funeral parlors, conducted by Rev. Ernest E. Day, pastor of Plymouth Congregational Church. Plymouth quartet, Mrs. Russell Bowers, Mrs. Davis H. Stauss, D. C. Muney, A. C. Coleman, accompanied by Miss May Gertrude Edwards, sang two selections. Interment was made at the mausoleum, Whittier Heights Memorial Cemetery, pallbearers being Fred C. Funk, Leslie R. Martz, E. W. Moon, Kenneth C. Reichling, William H. Reichling, Paul V. Stevens.

Vera G. Hood was born at Palmerston, Ontario, Canada, June 25, 1863, and passed away in Whittier, California, April 14, 1926. She was the third child of Gideon and Catherine Hood, who were pioneers, coming from Scotland in 1853 and settling in what was then a dense Canadian forest. As a young woman Vera moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and was there united in marriage to Samuel H. Ashmun, November 28, 1883. To this union were born six children. Mrs. Ashmun lived in Sault Ste. Marie until the death of her husband, December 22, 1910. The following September (1911) she with four of her children moved to Whittier where she has since lived. Mrs. Ashmun early in life united with the Presbyterian church and took an active part in all of the church activities, never severing her relation with her home church. By her friendly, cheerful and unselfish life she won the respect, friendship and love of a large circle of friends who will sadly miss her kind words and smile. The attendance at the funeral service and the large number of floral offerings testified in some measure to the place she has won in the community which for fifteen years has been her home.

Meeting the suffering attendant upon her last illness with a fine, Christian spirit of resignation, she answered the voice of her Heavenly Father in a childlike spirit and has gone on to a better Home, leaving many who mourn her going. She is survived by her children, Elmer J. Ashmun of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; Samuel H. Ashmun of Maracaibo, Venezuela, South America; Mrs. Wayne J. Davis of Downs, Illinois; Mrs. Lew Manning, Edgar C. Ashmun, Miss Myra Ashmun of Whittier; also four sisters and one brother, Mrs. Janet Miller of Sawyer, Minnesota; Mrs. Isabell Griffin of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; Mrs. Christine Stibbs, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario; Mrs. Gene Reichling, James G. Hood, Whittier.
