THOMAS KELLEHER , a saloonkeeper in business at the corner of Spruce and Fort streets, was burned to death in a fire which partially destroyed his saloon las night. Kelleher slept above the saloon in a room which he had fitted up for the purpose, and he went to the room about 6 o'clock to take a sleep. In half and hour the whole upper floor of the building was in flames and an alarm was turned in. Kelleher's body wsa found lying across the bed, which was almost entirely consumed. He had lain down across the bed without removing his clothes, and was burned in a terrible manner. An oil lamp in the room may have caused the fire, but this is not certain.

MARY KUFFA (BOSBOUS) KING , of Sault Ste Marie passed on to the Lord at age 88, on Friday Sept 9, 2009 at War Memorial Hospital from complications of her respiratory system and heart failure. She was born April 16, 1921 as Mary Kuffa Bosbous in Sault Ste Marie to Anthony and Lila (Hawath) Bosbous of Jrabta, Lebanon. Who had just immigrated to Sault Ste Marie. Taffy was a devout member of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church (St. Mary’s Parish) where she brought life to her family, joy to the neighborhood, raised her children and resided proud and happy her entire life. She started working when she was young at the C & B Grocery store where her parents owned and operated, also at the Tannery and Soo Bar & Supply. Taffy was a woman of strength and faith. She continued raising her large family on her own, dedicating herself to the children. She began working for Sault Area School Systems and then returned to Lake Superior State College to enhance her Education at 55 years of age and continued as an educational assistant until age 70 when she officially retired with 17 years of service from the Alternative Education School on Ashman St. She attended St. Mary’s and Loretto Catholic High School where she graduated. Things she loved to do were playing Cribbage with her Nephew, cards with the ladies, visiting family, collecting Dolls, Teddy Bears and Bracelets. Taffy was preceded in death by her Husband Merle G. King Sr. 57, Son Merle G. King Jr. 38, both from heart disease, her Parents Anthony & Lila Bosbous, her 3 Sisters Thelma (Paul) Yusko, Sophie (Wilfred) O’Conner, June E. Bosbous and her 2 Brothers George Bosbous, John Bosbous. Taffy is survived by 1 stepdaughter Marilyn Igna, Children Lila (Bob) Tubman of Fremont, MI, John Paul (Marla) King of Holland, MI, Tony (Dusty) King of Goulias River, Ont CA, Francis (Deb) King of Sault Ste Marie, MI, James (Sheryl) King of Comstock Park, MI, Joan (Mike) Strehl of Colorado Springs, CO, Terri (Carl) Workman III of Springfield, VA, and Scott (Melissa) King of Savage, MN. Also a legacy of 21 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren and she will be dearly missed. Pallbearers are John Marlo King grandson of grand ledge. Gifts and Donations may be given to St. Mary’s School and American Lung Association. Visitations will be held at Clark-Bailey Funeral Home on Monday October 12, 2009 at 4:00 pm and Service will be Tuesday at St. Mary’s October 13, 2009 at 11:00 am with Mass.

NYLA G. (STANDELL) KIRBY , 77, of Eastport, died on Saturday, Dec. 30,2006, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Nyla was born on Dec.9,1929, in Upper Jay, N.Y., the daughter of Edwin and Muriel (Sherman) Strandell. She resided in Eastport since 1968, moving from Pontiac, and had been a resident of Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan for the past four years. She was a member of the Sheperd's House Church in East Jordan. Her greatest love was her family. On Aug.2,1947, in Auburn Hills, she married John Kirby who preceded her in death in 1989. Also preceding her in death were a brother, Gary, a sister, Dixie, and one great-grandchildren, Lilly. Surviving are five children, John W. Kirby Jr. of East Jordan, Randy L.(Susan) Kirby of White Lake, Judy Burns of Ellsworth, Jill (Dennis) Wolgamott of Central Lake, Trini (Jon) Kelly of Ellsworth; a brother, Arnold Strandell, of Cadillac; three sisters, Elaine Gerber of Auburn Hills, Lorene Wright of Rochester, Nora (Joe) Jones of Waterford; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service wil be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan.3, at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Torch Lake Township. The family wil receive friends 6-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan.2, at the funeral home.

KATHERINE (HOTTON) KLEIVER was born 14 Jul 1896 in Michigan. She had been a resident of Lansing, MI for 46 years, coming from Sault Sainte Marie, MI. Katherine graduated from the E. W. Sparrow Hospital School of Nursing. She had been a RN with Fisher Body and E. W. Sparrow Hospital, retiring in 1959. Katherine was married to Floyd Peter (Pete) Kleiver (2nd marriage). There were no children from this marriage. Pete had a son, Jack R. Kleiver, from his 1st marriage. Katherine had three children from her 1st marriage: Col. Irvine Appleton of Elwood, MO, Mrs. Catherine Graham of Portage, MI and Mrs. Charles (Elizabeth) Drumm of DeWitt, MI. Katherine died 23 Sep 1977 at the age of 81.

ANDREW CHARLES KOLO age 73, of Raber, Michigan died Saturday, October 4, 2008 at Hearthside Assisted Living in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. He was born July 16, 1935 in Applegate, Michigan to Andrew Charles Kolo, Sr. and Marie (Macilog) Kolo. Andrew lived most of his life in the Detroit area. He grew up in Dearborn and then moved to Detroit where he worked for 30 years for Chrysler as a high/low equipment operator. During his years at Chrysler, he would travel often to the family property in Raber for weekends, holidays and vacations. When he retired he made Raber his home. Andrew enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casino. Andrew Kolo was survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Craig Knight of Albion, Michigan; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Kolo of Romulus, Michigan and Sylvia McKerchie of Raber; niece, Julie McBride; and nephews, Richard, Eugene and William Kolo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Yvonne (Method) Kolo; brothers, William Kolo and Richard Kolo; and nephew Michael Kolo.
