Sanford was born December 22, 1864 in Lowell, Kent Co. MI, and died in 1940 in Avon Park , Florida . He was taken to Nebraska in 1879 in a covered wagon at age 15 by his father Matthew & third wife Minerva E. Spencer and two new children, Frances and Clarence. Sanford married Alice Grace Wilmont. April 13, 1892 in Wilmots and Roy Moore’s old place in Rushville, Schuyler County, Illinois.

Alice was born March 3,1872 in Woodstock Rushville, Illinois. Her parents were George Morris Wilmont b 1848 and Julia Stutsman b 1848 living in Rushville, Schuyler County, Illinois. Grace died 12 May 1947 Avon Park , Florida .

In the 1899 census it indicated his occupations were: teacher, banker, clerk on mail train, hardware dealer.
